Ohio State University Early Action For Fall 2024 Admission

I’m thinking of calling tomorrow, how did you word your call😭? I feel like I’m going to say it weirdly on the call and the admissions office will not understand

Just say:

Hi, I was wondering if I could get an update on my scolarship status. I have not recieved anything in the mail yet, so I just want to confirm the amount I will be getting, if any, before I start making my final decisions.

They will know exactly what you mean.

Thank you so so much!!!🫶🏻

Hi there…I would call Buckeye Link. I was waiting too:(. They can look up your file and tell you if they are getting or not getting on the phone. We were told in Feb she is being considered, but I called early March and was told no…unfortunately it was a competitive year and she didn’t make the cut for merit:(. You can also email Buckeye link but will have to wait a few days for reply.
Good luck!!

It’s still strange that someone who got into Honors would not get merit; and someone who got merit would not get into Honors.

I think Honors likely more selective than getting the merit

Even if that’s the case, then shouldn’t all Honors kids get merit?

I would think so - that’s why there are suggestions to call and ask

My son got in EA in December to Columbus. Nothing in the way of merit to date. Also, received email tail-end of February about potential admit to Scholars program. I’m not sure there is any connection between honors/scholars and merit aid.

I will say that with the University of Florida, many students who got into Honors did not get merit and many students who got merit did not get into Honors - I guess the review process for both were different. Of course, I’m referring to a different school, so I’m not entirely sure about Ohio.

I agree! It makes no sense. The only way to be sure is to contact Buckeye Link:)

Yep, did some research on UF scolarships after I did not get any. They are more based on inistutional priorities than merit. Probably the same at OSU.

That’s interesting. We got a small merit from UF, but I don’t see any category of institutional priority we would be part of (unless female OOS is an institutional priority).

That could be it, but there there are probably very obscure institutional priorities that we don’t even know about.

are you committing to UF?

Very, very likely unless by some miracle I get a full ride to one of my 2 remaining schools (G Tech and Vanderbilt).

It is a priority if applying to something highly technical, ie, computer science or engineering…

My guess is merit at OSU is based on some combo of gpa, scores, AND/OR class standing. I tried different scenarios with the NPC on the site and when I put in “top 10%” of class the NPC awarded merit. My kid is not top 10% which may explain why none has been awarded (to date).

I used 25% (school doesn’t rank so OSU has no way of knowing or deducing rank) and NPC still showed that son will get merit. Nothing showed up. I called them yesterday and the lady that answered look around in a couple of places and said that the system is not showing any merit for him. :frowning:

I emailed OSU about any potential incoming merit, and they replied that I would be receiving none.

Feels bad, but I can officially cross off OSU.
