Olympics 2018

I can’t believe Lara Gut skied out in the women’s downhill. She was a serious medal contender, but was absolutely heartbroken after finding herself in fourth by +0.01 seconds in the women’s Super G. She skied out in the GS as well. After missing out on World Champs due to injury, I can’t imagine the disappointment and sadness she must be feeling right now.

They talked about the skates on the Today Show. Apparently, the blades are thick enough , and not “knife” like. And the guys sometimes put padding underneath.

It surprises me when the participants run on the ice before the get in their bobsled that they don’t fall. Do they have some grips on their shoes? Just an interesting observation.

Their shoes do have some sort of micro spikes

Yes, bobsleigh/bobsled start shoes are spiked.

Last realistic medal shot for the US in women’s Nordic tonight! Two person team sprint – Kikkan Randall & Jessie Diggins for the US. The two of them took a gold medal in this event in World Cup in 2013. Finals start at exactly 5 am EST.

Johnny Weir’s hair is just too weird.

Sorry Karen Chen missed her first combination, but her skate to “on golden pond” was beautiful.

Yes, the last few skaters have made a mistake during start of program. Nerves, I guess. I love the costumes.,this South Korean gal is lovely.

Johnny Weir’s hair is too dark for his pale eyebrows. Like when Claire Danes puts on one of her dark wigs in Homeland, it is just a bit jarring. Not sure what he’s doing with those rolls, lol.

I’m loving the skating. Except the spins where they grab their skate from the front. It always looks awkward. Is that a required element?

Great job, Lindsey! Please please let your body enjoy life on a flatter surface.

Very happy for Lindsey. Oldest women’s Olympic alpine skiing medalist!

I think Johnny Weir is perfectly fine with having “weird” hair. He’s definitely attempting to be unconventional. I’m sure he enjoys knowing he’s soliciting comments from middle-aged moms. Personally, I think he and his hair are great. He’s never dull, for sure.

Hopeful that bronze for Lindsey will shut up those nasty t-words! 3 Olympic medals: check. Victory in all 5 World Cup events: check. 16 World Cup discipline titles and 4 World Cup overall titles: check. Winningest American ski racer of all time: check. Next stop: Winningest ski racer of all time!

I called my husband in to see Johnny’s hair has gotten higher! However, he does not share my Olympic enthusiasm and not my enthusiasm for Johnny’s style.

Johnny Weir’s hair is a man bun on steroids! Reminds me of Olive Oyl from Popeye.

Oh— apparently it was a birds nest for 2 small birds! https://www.boston.com/sports/olympics/2018/02/20/johnny-weir-two-small-birds-hair

Medvedeva is just… wow. Loved the little segment about her personal interests. She likes to dance to K Pop and to draw anime (which she does quite well).

Many of these female skaters are so teeny tiny. Is that usually the case or more so this year? I don’t remember it from the past. Some of them look like little dolls out there.

Watching Myhara- one of the comentors said “struggles with nutrition.” What is that code for? Eating disorder? One of the other issues was bone density.

Both men’s and women’s skating is becoming more open about eating disorders and pressure to be thin. I applaud Rippon for being so honest about this.

Yes! Gold medal for Diggins and Randall in the women’s team sprint! Whooooooo!!!

You know…I really wanted to see the end of the short program women. But east coast…the top skaters were beginning to skate at midnight. This is one thing I wish NBC would have put on time delay…and broadcast during prime time here.

I’m sure the two fabulous Russians took first and second…but I wanted to see their programs.

Re: Johnny Weir…my husband and I agree, he is fabulous figure skater commentator, and we really don’t care one bit what his his hair looks like. He is great in the job…certainly as good as Scott Hamilton…and better than Dick Button.
