I need to get to work finding and watching them all in the coming weeks. I’ve only seen 3 of the best pic nominees thus far. Hopefully my local theaters will run some of the ones that haven’t come to my area now that they’ve been nominated.
For the nominations for best picture, I’ve seen all of them except 2. I haven’t seen Dunkirk… I don’t like war movies and I haven’t seen Get out… it sounded weird.
I loved the Post, Lady Bird and Three Billboards. But thanks to ‘The Movie Pass’ I was able to watch a lot of movies this year.
I don’t get the love for 3 Billboards other than as a vehicle for great actors; it blew my suspension of disbelief. But I have lots of catching up to do…I’ve only seen 3 of the 9 BP nominees.
“Get Out” is really good, and I think it’s still showing on HBO.
I’ve seen 5 of the BP nominees, and I’d like to see “The Shape of Water.” No desire to see “3 Billboards.” Right now I’m still a relentless shill for “Lady Bird.”
I have only seen The Post. It was excellent. Not too excited about seeing the rest. Saw the previews for several and wasn’t interested. Hmm, maybe will try to find Phantom Thread. It looks gorgeous but haven’t seen it around here. Just watched the trailer.
I’ve only seen one of the Best Picture nominees, Dunkirk, and I walked out of it. I don’t think most of them have played at one of the theatres that are reasonable distance from me.
I’ve seen many of the nominees this year. My favorite might have been The Shape of Water. It was a beautiful movie. It was so creative and interesting. We happened upon Mudbound one night desperately looking to find anything to watch on Netflix and we were blown away. It was a tough movie and hard to watch, but really told a great timely story. I have to say I was pretty disappointed in Three Billboards. I’m surprised at all the buzz it gets. It was filled with cliches. I also loved Ladybird and would like to see a win for Laurie Metcalf. My family adored Get Out, but I wasn’t as crazy about it. I’d like to see a couple more before the Oscars. First up, Call me by Your Name.
I’m really out of it. I saw Get Out which I thought was terrific and thought provoking and topical and The Post which I also thought was terrific and thought provoking and topical.
I loved Three Billboards and The Shape of Water. Thought The Post was just OK. Haven’t seen the rest yet. Sam Rockwell and Frances McDormand were both outstanding and deserve to win their categories, however Sally Hawkins was also great - especially since she conveyed so much without saying a word.
It was a strong year for movies and I think the Academy picked a terrific field in each of the major categories. I know that Sam Rockwell is a favorite for Three Billboards, but I was pleased to see Woody Harrelson receive a nomination in the same category for the same movie. He’s been excellent in so many films in a long career - if he wins, I’ll be happy for him. And an Oscar for Laurie Metcalf would make me happy, too - what a terrific actress.
I have to agree with @Hanna . I loved the acting by Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, and Sam Rockwell and am happy for their nominations (although I would have thought Arnie Hammer would have been nominated for Call Me By Your Name in place of Harrelson). But the movie overall? Meh.
I’ve only seen Get Out and Dunkirk. I’m not sure if seeing the other nominated movies could change my mind, but I was really impressed by Get Out and would be happy if it wins.
I’ve only seen Lady Bird and Dunkirk. Loved Lady Bird and hated Dunkirk. Dunkirk was too intense for me; there was never much of a break from the shooting/ bombing/killing. I know it was supposed to show the evacuation from the air, land, and sea, but that made the film seem choppy and contributed to the knot in my stomach.
I try to see all of the movies nominated for best picture–have a bunch to see in the upcoming weeks!
