Oscars 2018 Discussion

The show is good so far. I think Jimmy Kimmel is hitting the right notes.

Very nice speech from Sam Rockwell.

@rosered55 I agree, Jimmy Kimmel’s opener was good.

Eve Marie Saint - I love her! She looks just stunning.

ETA - she’s 90? Amazing.

Hard to believe that Eve Marie Saint is 93 years old!!

Re Rita, since the neckline is different, I’m sorry, I can’t see how the two dresses are THE SAME.

Gotta say, I’m loving the mini clips from prior winners/movies…have seen so many

@HImom clearly, she had the top redone. It’s the same dress otherwise.

And holy cow - Rita Moreno is 86!!! She looks amazing.

O.K…Kobe wins??? I would have voted for the other 4 nominees, wayyyyy before the Kobe film…

@gosmom

Agreed about the Kobe film.

First time I heard it, and I want “This is Me” to win for best song.

I like Jane Fonda’s look so much better this year.

I thought she looked her age, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Wait I take it back. She’s 80! When did that happen? Helen Mirrin as ever was lovely. (But she’s only 72.)

I liked the variety this year,
Shape of water 4
Dunkirk 3
Three Billboards 2
darkest hour 2
Coco 2
Call me by your name 1
Get out 1
I Tonya 2
Phantom thread 1
Blade runner 1

I was disappointed that my movie and song pick lost.

Ha ha, DH and I went to see “Shape of Water” yesterday, just because it got good reviews. Afterwards, DH said, “If that movie gets Best Picture, I will never respect the Academy Awards again…” Oh, well!

How did you like it @MaineLonghorn? We watched Three Billboards and really liked it, but I was dissatisfied with the ending. I know why they did it like that, but I still felt that way. DH thought it was a realistic ending and liked it. I thought it would win. I was going to see Shape, but I typically agree with the audience ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and it only has 77%. I had decided to wait until it’s on DVD.

I thought the dresses were nice all in all, not many wowed me. Not sure if I loved it, but I was mesmerized with Nicole Kidman’s dress. I liked the one on actresss (not time to look it up), the African American actress who wore the black and gold dress, with her hair in an African style? I did love that one. Loved Viola Davis hair style. I hated Emily Blunt. The commentators were trying to find something good to say…those are the moments I miss Joan Rivers saying what everyone thinks…haha.

Who were the people who interviewed the stars outside the arena, as they entered? I did not care for them or the green dress the female interviewer wore.

Didn’t even stay up to watch them this year. There were no movies that I loved so much I wanted to root for them. What happened this year with the lineup of top movies, kinda lack lustre this year.

^^^I disagree. There were some wonderful films this year.

I’m not surprised The Shape of Water won, but I also thought Three Billboards and Darkest Hour could have also won. I had both of those ranked of above the actual winner.
