My son wears a 32x34. It is too wide in the waist and too short, but it is easier to find than the 31x36 he should wear. He solves the problem by wearing his pants low on his hips, holding them up with a belt. This makes them long enough, and his shirt covers his boxers.

People may know this already, but sometimes on-line has a wider range of sizes than the stores. My son is a 28/32. He’s only 5’10", but he has very long legs. Weighs maybe 135, but was less than 120 for a long time. My other son is 6’2", but his inseam is shorter than his brothers. Express, GAP and AE are stores I’ve been successful with.

I am fascinated by this and on the edge of my seat as I watch my own son. He loves basketball and is constantly hoping to be TALL. Right now he’s 14, 6’2" and size 14 shoes. We’ll see….

Note that the average height of an NBA player is about 6’7", so he has about 5" to grow. Of course, basketball skill is also necessary.

Mom of tall D2 here. Will not forget when doctor told us she would probably by 6 feet tall! Neither H or I are 6 feet tall. She is now in her early 20’s and about 5’ 11". And she has a large size shoe for a woman.

awwww…the resurrected post!

That was November 2011

Here we are December 2014 and I am back on CC because he is in High School… :)

And the growth…One foot taller at 6’4" weighs 135 pounds, size 14 shoe and my latest challenge is trying to find a suit for Model UN State Tourney…haha…same journey…different year…

@collegeshopping – good luck on that suit search and please return here to let us know where you find one! I had a challenging enough time buying a suit for my older son who needed 40L and 33 inch pant with 35 inch inseam (swimmer’s build). Ended up at Brooks Brothers Outlet store where they sold that athletic cut, but I don’t think that will work for your son

Not a parent but about 5’9.5" and size 13.5 shoe. I’m anxiously waiting for a growth spurt because being a 5’9" 17 year old isn’t fun.

There are made-to-measure suits and dress shirts if off-the-rack suits and dress shirts are not within reasonable alteration range.

However, it does appear that slim fit suits and dress shirts are somewhat available, more so than athletic fit suits and dress shirts.

S is 6’ 2", 135lbs. Needs a 30 waist and 34 length - I have a hard time finding pants that fit. @collegeshopping - He needed a suit for a model UN tourney as well. Sent him stuff we had at home. But he is very active in theater and his drama teacher had bought him this absolutely lovely suit last year for a musical. Great fit - I told her she needs to tell me where she shops !! She graciously gave him the suit to wear for the tourney!

I have a bean pole 6 footer too. 30 waist and 34 length. But big shoulders and muscled frame, despite being slim. Finding clothes to fit without alteration is difficult. Had to have suit tailored severly for the rash of family funerals we have been haaving.

I have a bunch of boys, and so it is in our family, with girls very few in number. Can’t always predict. They say they can “most” of the time, but most is 51% of the time which makes it a coin flip. My oldest was on the top of the growth charts and was supposed to top 6 feet, but stopped at 5’11. His brother who was always short, is only an inch shorter than he is. My tallest was only slightly above the curve until he hit puberty. A geneticist who made predictions was way off on all of mine.

My one cousin’s son is well over 6 feet tall with parents being 5 feet and 5’ 5" maybe. I remember my MIL saying that they would have little children at the wedding. Nope.

My one son did a study correlating feet size of men with height, and found the predictive value not so useful. Skewing the data terribly were a number of Eastern European/Russian men who were very tall with average sized feet. There were also some big feet who had little height. This is especially common among women, but yes, the men too. He had wanted to do a predictive display where high schoolers could put their feet in a measurer and he would estimate the height but the correlations were too weak.

Mine is only 5’11, but is a 29 waist and 34 length. He is supposed to wear Dockers or Dockers-like pants for his school uniform. I ordered out of the Lands End catalog their chino’s in his exact size. It was a beautiful thing.

@arisamp … My son’s height comes from his legs and wears 31 X 37 pants (well in the perfect world). I have gotten really lucky at Cavendars (online). They carry a couple different options in 31 X 38 and he like them (Rock and Roll Cowboy brand is his favorite and not “cowboy” at all…lol). For sweat pants I order Old Navy “Tall” in Medium. The are silly big in the legs, etc, but they are long enough. As far as khakis…he has one pair and they were 31 waist talks from Gap but they are too short now.

my son is 6’3", 200 lbs and wears 42L jackets, and 34/34 pants. He finds that Hugo Boss jackets fit him very well. :)

@collegeshopping — I am just going to consider myself fortunate that my son can manage with 32 x 36. He has a nice collection of belts to hold them up! I have never been an Old Navy shopper but am now a loyal fan for that size of flat front khakis. VERY well made, and a better feel to the fabric than the Gap khakis.

While summer seems a long way away, J. Crew sells flat front shorts (khakis and colors/patterns) in an 11 inch inseam. I can’t recall the name of the cut, but they sell them at J. Crew outlets. Granted, they cost more than the Old Navy khakis but they fit well.

I’m 5’11 wife 5’6. 19 YO son 6’5 255lb. D1 TE. He was large from birth. 10.2 oz. was 6’0 in the 7th grade. My 14 yo daughter is 5’9!!!
I am 5’4’ my son’s father is 6ft. My son is 14 years old currently stands at 6’4 and is a size 13.5 shoe. Wondering if he’ll keep growing?
Yes, it is likely that a 14 year old male will grow for several more years. My brothers weren’t done growing until they were 18. Some continue to grow in college and even beyond. My brothers topped out at 5’11", 6’1" and 6’3"–tall compared to their 5’9" dad. On the other hand, my HS boyfriend grew to 5’8" at age 12 and then totally stopped growing, so you never know what will happen.
My D is 15yo and 6’, 115 lbs. She has a 25" waist and 36" inseam!! I buy her clothing online from ASOS which has an incredible tall women’s selection. She was a late bloomer so I suspect she will grow another inch or two in high school. She was always off the charts for height. Her shoe size is a measly 8.
Her highly athletic brother is patiently awaiting his growth spurt. At age 13, he seems way behind the other boys in terms of physical development. He is 5’3" with a size 10 shoe and has always been just slightly above average on the growth charts. I bet he takes off in the next year or so. His teammates don’t recognize him as much of a threat due to his size… I think they are in for a big surprise.
I am 5’8" and H is 6’2".
Very likely.
One HS friend was already 6 feet by 9th grade. By the time he stopped growing in our senior year, he topped out at 6’4". His mom’s 5 feet. His dad’s 6’7".
I was barely 5 feet when I started HS at 13. Didn’t start my growth spurt until the summer between sophomore and junior year when I went from 5’2" to 5’7". When I returned for my junior year of HS, very few classmates recognized me at first and some of them asked me “Cobrat, WHAT have you been eating?!!” Topped out a smidgen under 6’ by sometime around freshman year of college at 17. Mom’s 5’2". Dad’s an inch shorter than I am now.
