Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

Shaw, if you have an idea as to where the mold is, get some plastic e.g. painter’s drop cloth, and use it to seal off that area. Sealing off a smut-laden window noticeably helped my D prior to window replacement. Just a thought.

Another poster figured out how to post links to specific posts on the “new and improved” CC website.

Same concept works in Chrome, except the option you choose is “copy link location”

(If you’re on a Mac, “right click” is a two finger click on the trackpad while you’re hovering over the date.

But, it probably is useless on an ipad or other tablet.

D1 has a verbal offer for a position with the out of state team. They asked her salary requirements and she told them what she had made in her old position. The company President was surprised at the amount but said his team would talk and send a formal written offer. She has no idea what the amount will be. She is still not sure whether she wants to be five hours away. Should be an interesting wait!

Awesome, NM. Really pleased that she’s going to have an offer in hand.

S is doing well. Quite the ordeal when anesthesiologist said the advanced procedure is what the doc planned. Of course s and DIL had not actually talked with the doc for weeks ( she had been on vacation). Historically, h and s are go along kinda guys. I whet into BIG mode, they rallied and later told me I overreacted…
Doc was fine and agreed when S asserted himself.
Rather stuck here due to the ice and snow at home. Hope to leave tomorrow.

D called and had talked with bf and finally understands it is over. Feels distraught but also that now she can move on. She will be home in 3 weeks and is eager to get here.

Good luck to NM’D!

Good news, NM. Always good to have an offer.

So glad to hear your son is doing well, oregon. Sorry to hear your daughter is distraught but good she feels she can now move on.

Whoo-hoo to northminn D1!! Nice!!

Oregon - I think you need a break. Glad to hear S is doing well. Also glad to hear that D may be able to move on.

Good news NM - at least now she does have a choice(s).

Oregon - good luck to S.

Happy to hear oregon S is doing well! What a relief! Sending prayers for comfort and healing. So sorry to hear about oregon D. We are going through the same healing process with D1. It takes time…lots of time. And of course hugs and comfort from home.

D1 also got her start date today for her temporary full time position within H’s healthcare system. It allows her some breathing room to make her decisions and some extra cash plus experience in a different business area. I feel relieved that she finally has some options. She is trying to stay open to whatever comes along and make a strong career choice rather than just take a job.

Glad your son is doing ok, Oregon. Safe driving!
I hope all of those with recently ended relationships begin to see light at the end of the tunnel. Sounds like NM D1is moving in a positive direction.

NMN - I think you are right that for your D to have a job she really wants/likes vs having the paycheck. It will go a long way to helping her truly heal vs just getting on with life. So congrats on the potential offer and we’ll hope that when it rains it pours and she’ll have options, which as we keep saying is all we can really ask for with kids.

S called H today to say he has a lead on an apt in NYC thru a friend of his from HS who went to NYU and is doing very well for himself in visual effects. So we’ll see where that leads.

My mom is doing poorly, had a procedure over a week ago to help fluid drain from her lung and has been unable to have the tube removed to leave the hospital. My sister is desperate for someone to go there and I am her pick for the day. The house went on the market today, open house on Sunday and then S returns sunday night. I have no idea how long he might be here, but I definitely worry about his standards as compared to mine for showing the house since two weeks ago I was having trouble convincing him his closet needed cleaning out! Neither my H or S seem to notice water spots on faucets or the necessity of even putting the couch back together, let alone crumbs on the floor, to say nothing of the toilet seats being down! Im definitely in a hard position because even if I left a long list, they would likely dismiss it as something that lacks credibility. And honestly, my sister is expecting better answers than what’s she’s been able to garner from either my mom or her husband.

Moda, sorry about your mom, and the timing of her illness.

As for the house, I think that I’d you have one room that is immaculate, the buyers will see that you will work to leave the place in good shape. I personally would be concerned if I went into a place with ‘stuff’ everywhere, with signs of dirt everywhere. But I do agree that, for the open house, it should be as good as possible. Maybe the realtor could provide a list for your men?

Woohoo to NMs D! That’s one in the bag, whatever else happens!

Oregon and Moda, sending you both the healthcare system mojo and the no stress mojo.

Moda, don’t worry about the house. People can tell a house that has good bones and a deep clean underneath a bit of “man crumb.” In fact, it might make some of them feel at home. Just give the guys something natural and nice to spay, simmer or burn before showings…preferably essential oil based, not chemical, and preferably a clean lavendar or orange blossom type of combo. It sounds crazy, but they’ve done research on this and pure essential oils when atomized give people happy pheromones  Hospitals in the UK use scent to speed healing (and for antiviral activity.) I don’t think fake scent has the same impact though, and some folks are chemically sensitive.

Today we start packing the studio. All I want to know is where’s the bus?

Good morning! It’s amazing how much larger our living room looks, now that the Xmas tree is FINALLY gone. My crazy avatar was rolling on one of the unassembled pieces yesterday morning, using it as a back-scratcher, and leaving artificial debris in his wake.

Congrats on your D’s job offer, NM!

Modadunn, so sorry about your mom. Hope the open house brings a buyer with a great offer and you won’t have to keep it perpetually clean and picked up. Is the ground too frozen to bury a statue of St Joseph? Hope your S finds a good place to live.

oregon101, thinking of your S and D.

kmcmom13, sending good thoughts and energy as you pack the studio!

D received a request for a phone interview for the position in Chicago, the one where she was screened-out by the software. She also had an email apologizing for the error in their applicant tracking software. It would be really nice if this, or some other position, comes through.

Hope everyone has a [relaxing, productive, healing, insert your own adjective] weekend!

Sending good luck to cq D!!! That is wonderful! Keeping my fingers crossed for her! So how are things going for your H? Any job prospects for him?

Heading to the lake for the day. Have a good weekend all!

Great for NM D1. This is a big stuff in putting her life back together, correct?

c-q, best of luck with your D’s interview. Glad she got the request.

Moda, sorry to hear about your mom and life chaos.

Mold guy came. No mold in house. Horrible mold in studio. Insurance adjuster coming on Monday.

The fun never stops. Back from Miami after a few days (I left a day early to miss the big snowstorm), then London, then back, then Houston for a couple of days. The following weekend, ShawWife and I are going to drive my new BMW (actually I’m going to drive) to NJ to visit my mom and pick up the stuff to do her taxes and spend a day in NY.

Hi everyone! Back from warm, sunny FL - why, I’m not sure, since it’s in the 20s here and everything is covered with snow!! I think I’ve figured out the basics of this new CC conversion thing, but I’m not sure if I like it.

We flew in and out of Boston, but came back to RI last night since we had a meeting scheduled with our tax people this morning. Fortunately we had done all the prep work before leaving. Now I’m faced with a mountain of laundry and paperwork. (Small price to pay for “winter break,” though.)

No time now to skim through everyone’s posts, but I’ll try to catch up later. Remember that missed last step on the stairs I managed to pull off before leaving for FL? It’s definitely much, much, better, but not 100%. My foot turned all sorts of lovely shades of black, purple, blue, yellow, etc. All that warm weather, and I couldn’t do any exercise walks. Oh well.

glad you got the warmth in Florida, CBBBlinker. Last time we were there it hit 38 degrees as the overnight low. And rain.

Shawbridge – really sorry to hear that there’s a lot of mold in the studio, but it sounds like that might be a pretty good explanation for the problems your wife was having. I hope remediation works. (Does this get covered by insurance? I think mine specifically excludes mold as of a few years ago, and I was under the impression that was now a common exclusion.)

Moda – That is so tough with your mom.

I am here and doing okay. More later. Thanks for thinking of me.

arabarab, the insurance will cover water damage, though not necessarily the repair of the roof itself. Mold remediation is covered up to $10K. There is an overall deductible of $5K, but I’d expect the cost to be $15K or probably $20K (we’ll have to strip off all of the drywall, replace insulation, maybe replace wood, not sure what else), so it will probably have been worth it to bring in the insurers. An adjuster is coming on Monday. The same guy who handled our house with Hurricane Sandy, so he knows that I am a) a straight shooter; and b) a PITA if not treated well. It turns out that one of our neighbors is in the mold testing business and he is going to give us names of contractors who handle it well.

It has indeed been nice missing Boston weather over the last month.
