Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

That’s helpful, Shawbridge.

Eddieodessa – Glad you popped in. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Well, blech. Woke up before dawn with another stomachache. Had one 4 out of the last 5 days. Not horrible, but not good, and no idea what is the cause.

arabrab, H’s was his gallbladder. Always presented as a stomach ache. Hope you feel better soon.

Sorry about the mold Shaw. Is this the main thing causing you wife problems?

S is getting his epideral tube out today but still has a small air bubble caused from the staples. He will be released tomorrow.
His attitude towards me was quite rude. DIL was lovely. S thinks I am telling him what to do even if all I do is comment on his room being hot and did he want it that way. I am not sure where to go with his attitude. It has nearly been an issue raising him but I would think he would start getting over it. His dad now walks on water but they were not close at all before the last few years. I think his FIL has helped with that.

S’s MIL came up with the baby. She looked like she was 20. Her hair, clothes etc. It was weird. H could not get over it. She is in her early 50’s.

eddie, nice to hear from you.

We are in a major ice storm. Had to walk in a few blocks to the house.

Well, the gallbladder is already gone, so at least I don’t have to worry about that.

Stay safe on the ice, Oregon. Wicked stuff.

One of D’s HS friends had a mom who easily could have passed as a sister who was five years older. She was gorgeous, and dressed like someone in her 20’s. But she pulled it off very nicely.

Much excitement around here last night. Got home from the lake and I started laundry right away. D2 wasn’t home at the time but later walked in to the house after the dryer had been running for awhile and asked why we were all sitting around in a house that smelled like gas! It wasn’t the sulfur smell but more like a propane smell from the gas grill. Silly me went in to the laundry room and opened the dryer and stuck my head in to see if the smell was coming from there. Yep it was! After much discussion I got everyone out of the house and called the gas company. By this time I had a headache and stomachache. Sure enough we had a gas/carbon monoxide buildup from the new dryer!!! The gas man said the level was very high even though I had opened doors and stopped the dryer. D2 saved our lives! They red tagged the dryer and are coming back on Wednesday to see what the problem is. Do you think I should also call the the appliance store who installed it and carries the warranty???

Good grief, NM, glad you are ok. I’d be giving them a call!

Shaw, good luck with the studio rehab. I may face the same thing if we don’t get this ice damming handled…which despite our efforts all weekend, we’re turning over to pros today!

Arabrab…feel better. Hope the cyber puppy gives you some comfort :)

Did any of you catch the Beatles 50th anniversary since Sullivan special? I don’t know if they had work done, but sir Paul and Ringo have managed to keep themselves in decent condition all these years. It was a trip down memory lane, that’s for sure  it’s always amazing to me that inside of about the same amount of time mcson was in college, those guys went from the Sullivan show to the Counter Culture look and cranked out a really wide ranging Opus in terms of sound!

So glad you’re okay, NM !

I saw the Beatles show. Loved it. It was so great to see Paul and Ringo together. I think they looked and sounded great.

Missed the beatles show, but was helping D1 perfect her cover letter and resume to start applying for some teaching and associate teaching jobs opening up near her. The one school seems very much on par with the school our two younger kids attended and I know she would be awesome. Too bad you can’t write a recommendation for your own kid!

NMN - that definitely sounds hugely scary! And yes, I would be calling the appliance place. I know you had a helluva time finding a dryer that would fit/work in your space and I hope they didn’t skip on anything crucial just to make that work. Of course, it could be as simple as the line not being tight enough. I would love a gas stove, but I have to admit that the potential for death in the way of casually falling asleep has always frightened me somewhat. However, I am so glad you are safe and sound and that D2 was late enough to instantly smell it when walking into the house!

Had open house yesterday which is a little tough when you’re on day 48 or something of below zero temps. By the time it hits 19 on Weds, it’s going to feel like summer. Apparently only one person commented on lack of privacy but I hate the neighbor behind me all over again. And although there is plenty of room to plant, it’s not as easy when it comes to the years spent growing things that big. Why why why continues to plague me.

S came home last night (actually this morning) and will apparently be here till Thursday packing up his stuff. Of course, he hadn’t given us flight info texting H only to say it had been delayed and would likely get in a little later. I knew he was coming into the smaller airport so I checked to see what the flights were and is how I discovered that what was supposed to be 11pm was now being est for 2am! We were a little perplexed as to why S hadn’t bothered to update us since he hadn’t told us the airline or the flight. Apparently he had fallen asleep in his seat and didn’t realize his plane had sat on the tarmac for nearly two hours before taking off. He thought he was waking to landing when, in fact, they had just left NYC!

NMN – REALLY glad you’re still with us. I think D2 gets whatever she wants for birthday, Christmas, whenever.
Do you have carbon monoxide detectors? If not, please get several. Soon. And yes, I’d be having a heck of a conversation with the installer’s manager.

I did the falling asleep thing on a plane one time, Moda. We got in so late that United didn’t have a crew left in the terminal to run the jetway, so we sat there for 20 minutes while they rousted someone out of another terminal to come and bust us out.

We do have a monitor but it is upstairs in the hall. We will be getting more! The hard part was me convincing everyone to leave the house! They all thought I was crazy!

Yeah, I can totally relate to this lack of credibility. Of course, proving yourself right means everyone stays to see if they’re alive in the AM.

Watching The View… does anyone else feel that Barbara Walters has overstayed? I think her facial work has loosened her brain. She is the worst offender at interrupting and thinks she is always the most knowledgable on all things. How they have the patience is beyond me, but I do indeed think it’s time for her to say goodnight as she is coming off as going a little senile.

I watched the View a few times when I was sick – they way they interrupted each other made me nuts. Too many folks at that table, imo.

NM – I get the shivers thinking about what could have happened. We lost an entire family not too far from here when their furnace was repaired incorrectly.

Oh my! Glad to hear all are safe and sound northmin… I really hope it wasn’t a case of cutting corners to get the dryer in! :-S

The appliance store service guy just left. Once I notified the store they were here within the hour! Apparently the venting system inside the dryer came loose due to the previous installers trying to make the venting work with the house vent. This meant it was vented straight in to the house! We now have a temporary venting system setup until they figure out what to do. I am still having the gas company out to double check.

OK, I’ve gone back and read all the posts I missed while in FL without a computer!

IMO, the jury’s still out on this whole FB thing here on CC, but I do like the ability to save drafts. I’m trying to get used to what photo goes with which person - for those of you are showing something other than the CC Logo. My photo is of our cabin at family camp in NH, where we go in July.

Glad to hear oregonS finally had his surgery. What a long, drawn out ordeal! Congratulations to ModaS and NMinnD on the job offers. Hope the studio mold issue gets sorted out, shaw. That’s always been one of my worst nightmares - having a house taken over by mold. And NMinn - way scary about the gas! H & I have had a gas stove, but in both Cambridge and RI we also have gas heat. Every once in a while I do worry about it a little …

Aside from occasional texts, we haven’t heard much from S. I finally told him (via text) that he needed to call us – which he did, last night. He sounded SO much better than when we saw him at Christmas. I’m pretty sure it’s over with the (now ex) gf, and I think he’s moving on. I knew deep down he’d be OK, but it was so gut wrenching to see him so down. Anyway, he’s been busy in his free time building a bed. Next up is a coffee table. He’s always enjoyed designing and building stuff. He doesn’t socialize much with the other 4 new 2nd Lts (he says they’re sort of jerks), but he has a good friend from school who lives fairly close to him in NJ. They’ve been hanging out on weekends. Apparently they’ve started brewing beer. Who knows, maybe they’ll start the next Sam Adams or Harpoon Brewery.

D was just offered a new position at Boston Children’s Hospital. Although she had learned lots in her current job, she wasn’t doing the sort of work she really wanted. Plus it had been just her working for a doctor, and she really wanted to be part of a team. She’ll start her new job March 1. There’s a salary boost, too, which is always good.

In the “I hope we’re not crazy” department, H & I decided to get another Wheaten Terrier. We’re getting her (our previous one was male) from the same breeder, in MN. She’s from a litter of 6, and the breeder keeps sending the cutest videos of the puppies. So, at some point in March our lives will change dramatically. I told H since he’s working from home now he can do a lot more of the care this time around. Time will tell if that actually happens.

Wow NM dodged a bullet there, so glad you all are ok. I am off for a few days, enjoying the break. I dropped a bottle of oil on my foot, it hurts more now that the swelling has gone down. hmmm. D1 booked a flight to visit all on her own, I guess she likes us after all hehe. Oregon so glad your son is doing well. CBB so glad you heard from your son. I DVR’d the Beatles to watch it in quiet. D2 is deciding on co-ops and enjoying clinicals.

Today is D1’s birthday. She came downstairs trying not to let me notice she had been crying. sigh… She and I are heading to the mall for some retail therapy. H and D2 work late tonight so D1 and I will go to Happy Hours at a new restaurant that is opening today. One step at a time…

Hello to all. I tried to keep up with y’all while I was with my mother but didn’t do a very good job. I have also been involved in trying to get a crazy deal closed. So now, about a dozen people think I’m a goddess and about a dozen more at a crosstown law firm are probably in fear that I’ll tell the world how monumentally they dropped the ball. But sadly, adoration doesn’t pay the bills. When this closes, I’ll be essentially selling my oldest client (since 1992). Hope they all tell their friends.

Moda, I hope your mom is more comforatable.

Congrats on all the good job news.

CBB, thank you for the report on your son.

NM - oh, my!!! SO happy you are all safe!

Arabrab, I hope your stomach problems are diagnosed soon. God would really have done us a favor if there were more distinct symptoms of physical problems…like a purple star on your right cheek if you had this, a green blotch on your neck if you have that. There are too many things - some serious, some not at all - with the same symptoms.

Feeling good today, MP – thanks. H says that people are down with all sorts of things at work; his hands are looking chapped from how often he’s washing them.

Congrats on getting the crazy deal closer to close, but sorry that it is going to result in the loss of an old client. Did things go ok with your mom?

NM – I hope the shopping therapy helps. This is hard stuff to get through for your D1, or for anyone. I hope as spring emerges that she’ll be in a better place emotionally.

NM, how incredibly scary with the dryer/gas. I hope you were able to cheer up D1 a bit yesterday for her birthday.

CBBBlinker, a puppy! Watched the Westminster Dog Show the past couple of nights. We were like a broken record; kept saying “what a beautiful dog.” Well, of course they are all, to be in that show. Glad S seems to be doing better.

Missypie, hope your mom is doing okay. Glad you were able to take care of business while there.

D has her phone interview today. Hoping it goes well!

Sending phone interview fairy dust and birthday blues healing mojo and some new client mojo for missy.

Closed another new project yesterday so busier than you know what. It’s all good, I will survive the whirlwind  (That’s a Stuart smalley style affirmation, btw :))
