ShawD had her first interview today. Somehow, her resume does not cut through the resume sorter. The interviewer said, “I would offer you the job right now but I need to check your references.” So, they offered her the job an hour later. It is a 12 minute walk from her apartment.
The head of HR at the hospital she worked (time-consuming to get to by public transit) has agreed to talk to the head of HR at its sister hospital, where ShawD did her preceptorship. It is a wonderful and extremely prestigious teaching hospital. Maybe that way she can get an interview. As DTE knows, once they meet her, she will get the offer.
Given the highly uncertain prospects given resume sorting (she has no other interviews at the moment) and the fact that her program requires her to have a per diem or part-time job by mid-April, she probably will have to accept the initial offer. I’m not sure how folks in nursing handle that.
That is great news about the house, RM. And great news about a job offer, shaw. Being a 12 minute walk from work sounds great . Hope other interviews come up for her before she has to make a decision.
Did any of you notice that there’s now a “Parents of the HS Class of 2019” group? I know we’re old, but wouldn’t they be in 8th grade? Aaak!
RM, congrats on the house. Shaw, glad she has an offer in hand. Is there anyone at her school career services area she can meet with for pointers on getting her resume through screening software?
Next week I’ll be in DC for work. Can’t remember who lives in that area/might want to meet up. I have plans Wednesday night, but am available Mon, Tue, or Thurs evening.
Good morning. Congrats on the house, RM, and the job, Shaw
Cruise ends Sat and not sure how I’ll adjust going home to subzero temps mcson is reporting. It will be a shock to the system for sure But at least I’ll have had the break.
Mch had a great time snorkeling in Roatan, but his tour was cancelled in Belize so he spent the day recouping while I and the other 3 couples went cave tubing. He was originally going to go but I’m glad he decided not to because the hike through the rain forest was way too tricky to navigate. It was a blast to see the Mayan version of Hades. Gorgeous formations. The private jeep thing in Cozumel yesterday worked out nicely too.
Only downside to the trip so far was the unceremonious saltwater death of my cell phone, though perhaps it was a blessing to truly disconnect me from the office. I’d bought a so-called dry bag for taking pics underwater and when I finished some beautiful snorkeling discovered the idiot dry bag was by no means dry. The saltwater fried the phone. I was due for an upgrade anyway.
Mcson has had a crazy week with lots of client-trials-by-fire, but he’s done a great job and the team has done well progressing projects despite the constant support shenanigans. Won’t get my hopes up, but man o man could I ever envision a transition plan to retirement if I knew he wanted to stick around. We’ll see what the future brings.
Right now I’m highly tempted to buy some property down here and install a good sattellite to telecommute during the winters I actually have an associate in my biz that did just that in Costa Rica several years ago. I wonder if she was able to maintain her client base five years out. I should track her down and ask!
High waves right now and the captain had predicted potential problems docking this a.m., so I am waiting until we actually dock til I wake up mch. A beach day on tap here in theory with walk-out snorkling from a resort next to reef but with this wave action I’m going to predict that’s not going to happen.
Sendin y’all warmer tropical mojo…been expecting the bus for days now
KMC I’m envious. I did recently convince H that next year we are taking a trip somewhere warm in the winter. I’ve had enough this year. Typically I love winter but this year has been unrelenting. Another 5-6 inches last night. Ugh.
Shaw - congrats on the job offer. At least she has something if nothing else comes through.
She is excited about the area of work though I suggested to her that she talk to some of the people who currently work there. She doesn’t know how long a window she had with the current job. She is also pleased that she will be earning adult level pay. She is leaning toward saying yes as she fears that applying elsewhere will continue to be slow and ponderous.
Great news for your daughter, Shawbridge. A quick walk from home is nothing shabby.
KMC - aaah…that sounds wonderful. I like your idea of an island office!
RM - Congratulations on your S + DiL’s house acquisition. When will they close?
H has now had two days of off-site trainings/meetings – in a building/floor where he worked a dozen years ago for a different company. He said it was a little creepy – familiar, but not.
congrats on house buying and interviews/job catching.
We are shirt without coat weather and D is in RI with many of you. This is crazy nice for us and so…what to expect this summer as we might have a drought. No snow on the mountain which is where we get our water from (and so does much of Califonia).
Her 20 yr old suberu impreza is doing ok and she says it is starting fine. SO glad we had her get it winterized there vs here 3 yrs ago. When she first went East we had to buy her winter coat in Boston as even our skiing gear does not compare.
H has gone through more tests and nothing seems definitive. But at least all of the docs are finally looking at the whole picture. He is still on for Italy and I am having headaches (big bad ones) as I know that I do need to make the call as he simply takes the high road. But that decision could leave me with a mess and having just gone through this am not raising my hand for the next trip.
^ I hope that works out for you oregon. You are in a rough spot.
I went to dinner last night with a friend and then we saw Birdman. Interesting movie. We both kind of liked it, but it was different. Glad I got out last night.
Snowing all day today.TV says DC area has 3-6 inches of snow. More like 10 here. Major snow event for this area, H and I have not left the house except to shovel the drive and take the dog out.
Nice weather in Oregon it sounds like. I hope Oregon and H are feeling better. We braved the snow to go to a Chinese New Year theme party last night. The hosts wore a goat outfit (leggings like the Narnia movies, a goat mask, and a shofar to bleat) and a Little Bo Peep outfit (skimpy like it was bought from a Naughty Halloween costume shop). Weird.
Good Morning! Have not been able to log in to the site for the past few days. No idea why I couldn’t log in. I am anxious for my new laptop to be delivered so I don’t have to use my phone. Bitter cold here. - 36 yesterday up North. Brrr…
5 degrees here, and that’s plenty cold. No need to go into the minuses.
I hope your new laptop arrives, NM. My 2.5 year old cell phone still works fine mechanically, but there are more and more apps that don’t work because they’re engineered for more recent hardware versions. So far nothing critical, but I’m wondering if this is going to push me into an upgrade sooner rather than later. Annoying, because I take good care of my stuff and would be happy to keep a phone for 5 years.
Well, the wifi didn’t seem to work most of the time, and the train arrived 45 minutes later than scheduled, but it was roomier and more comfortable than being on an airplane. It was also a fraction of the cost of an airplane for this particular route.
Good Morning! New laptop has arrived! Trying to figure out the new set up. Big learning curve. Hope everyone is safe in the ice storm! We just have the cold.
