FallGirl, Hope your son has a wonderful experience going to school there. Hope you have chances to visit! That would be fun.
FallGirl, hope it goes well! It is a great opportunity.
RM, congrats on finishing the christening gown and on the new baby!
Oregon, hope your dinner goes well!
Good energy for FallGirl as well as her S
.
RM, wow and congrats! I will bet that dress is used for generations to come.
And a huge thank you to those who sent D energy during her test last month. She woke me one hour earlier than I needed to wake (remembering the laundry at 2 a.m.) as she was thrilled with the score and it is even above the average in a tough area. I will let her know she could not have done it without you. I have been dragging all day but what is a mom to do?
Dinner:
sugar snap peas drizzled with toasted sesame oil and black sesame seeds (take 2 minutes to make)
Home grown cherry tomatoes halved, burrata cheeses -one topped with pesto and the other with thick “liquid gold” balsamic, served with crostini.
toasted almonds
Pork tenderloin with a balsamic glaze reduction (this takes the cheaper stuff)( guess we like balsamic!)
tossed salad with pears and so on
chop salad with a peanut sauce (both salads from our local pizza place)
fennel au gratin potatoes
rolls
a peach /plum tart from our quichy store
beer wine, and non buzzy drinks.
Please all fly in-- I will know just one person who this dinner is for–H’s 50th HS reunion–well, two, H and his best friend who will be staying with us
.
And I will get to visit with cq on Monday night too! As well as see her at a reunion dinner.
Just need a head count by morning.
Great news about your daughter’s test score, oregon! And the dinner sounds delicious.
I so wish we could all fly in for the dinner, oregon!
Glad your D got great scores.
but maybe one day we should all have our very own reunion.
So H is on the verge of being annoying as his BF from HS is here and tomorrow night he will be like a lovely wet puppy with all of his old friends that he has not seen in 50 years. And the best time of his childhood at that.
BUT! He needs to be a host and not another guest for me… :-??
I know he will do what I need him to do and that I am going to be so annoyed with him at the end of the evening.
Sigh
Just tonight he said his BF would eat on the plane (and what airline would that be?? :-S
So I directed him to our most famous food truck, told him to buy 3X’s what he would (he was raised Presby and I am Italian :D) He did what I said and his friend was starving and ate all as well as the salad I pushed on him.
If anyone depended on my H to feed them they would find themselves losing weight.
So I guess this is a rant and no doubt going to on for a few days.
When H is super excited about people he cannot navigate that he is a host and not a guest. Oh, but then he does not think that that 3rd or 4th bottle of wine needs to be opened… [-O<
But it so needs to be and that is one reason our dinners go from 6:00 until 1:00 am
Kudos on Oregon d’s happy score.
Lol re hapless host hubby
Practice makes perfect, I say!
Mine turned out to be trainable in these matters. Sorta. I find it helps to caucus prior to event and list the things said cohost ought to be watching for or preparing to do. I always did this with mcson too, even though to me it feels like common sense. Which is likely why people comment on his uncommon host-helpfulness
Great news Oregon on your D’s test results!
Dinner sounds fantastic! Lots of work for you though! Good luck with keeping your H on task. I fail miserably at that!
Ugh…woke up to discover I have pink eye and a roof leak in the garage. sigh…
Congrats to oregon D!!! How fun for cq and oregon get together!
NN, so sorry about your roof and you pink eye! What a day for you
.
The “boys” are off for the day which is what I needed. I do not have that much left to do but what is left will go easier.
My H’s social energy is so different than how he is on a day to day that it takes me by surprise. It is nice but jarring in a way.
NM - what a day for you! Hope you feel better and get the roof fixed!
Started on a weight loss program last week with a local running store. No I’m not running. If you see me running you know that there is a problem.
They do more than just running – concentrate on healthy. So started last Sunday and had my first weigh in after the initial weigh in on Saturday. Down 7.8 lbs. I know that this is the first week and that I would lose more on the first week than going forward but I’m okay with that. Really happy with how things are going so far.
Sorry about the pinkeye and roof, NM.
Congratulations on losing 7.8 lbs. , RM. Sounds like a great program. Good luck with it!
S1 is coming home tomorrow . He is a groomsman in his friend’s wedding ( who he has known since kindergarten). We are going to the wedding too as we are friends with the parents . It is cool to see a kid get married that you have known for so many years. He is a nice guy and his fiancée is lovely as well. We see them around town as they stayed in the area after college. Really looking forward to the wedding and weather is looking good for Saturday. I think I better bring some Kleenex!
S2 is really happy so far with his new job and that is always good. I will see both sons next month in DC, on the way to Pittsburgh. I am visiting my sister in Pittsburgh next month for three weeks. We already have tickets to see Flashdance, Beautiful, and are seeing the comedian Eddie Ifft at an Improv Club. So, next month should be fun .
Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
Enjoy the wedding sevmom!
Are you seeing Beautiful in DC? I just loved that show.
Sorry about the pinkeye and the roof , NM.
FallGirl,We are seeing the national tour of Beautiful in Pittsburgh. Also, Flashdance is coming back and there is a preview in Pittsburgh that we are seeing. I love Flashdance because of the Pittsburgh connection. Filmed there and a good friend of H’s family ( his best childhood friend’s mom) had one line in the film so when I think of Flashdance , I think of her fondly (she is gone now) She and her husband were also very good friends of my mother and father in law. She was a hoot- was on the local Pittsburgh theater scene and seemed to find her way into some of the films shot there. Like the campy George Romero films. My late mother in law was a fairly serious person by contrast so it was an interesting relationship to observe.
Sending hugs to NM.
My own immune system is not my friend at the moment…fever and chills back on Labor Day weekend, strange bright but non-itchy rash last weekend, now tender lumps/lymph nodes back of neck and head and dizziness. Never really felt what I’d call “sick” but going to doc today since clearly things are askew and want to rule out stupid tick-type infections before some other strange symptom pops up!
Feel better, kmc.
Hope it’s nothing serious KMC! Best to get it checked out.
Should be a quiet weekend for me. H and D are running the Rochester 1/2 marathon on Sunday so H will be gone most of the morning I would think. He’s also planning on going over to D’s Sat. to help with some house improvements. I want to work on her curtains some. Should be quick. Maybe I can get them done and take them over. Tomorrow night we are going out with friends to the New York Wine and Culinary Institute and take a cooking class. Should be fun. I expect it will be interesting as some of our friends don’t cook.
Kmc, get tested for Lyme’s.
Congrats on losing weight. I’m doing so also, but have adopted what I hope is the slow bit steady plan, a pound or a half a pound a week. I am down 20 pounds since Passover. At the moment, I seem to have plateaued, so I may need to make a little tweak.
I wasn’t planning on it being that much weight off in just 5 days. Just following the program. I think it is supposed to be like 1 or 2 lbs a week but obviously my body liked it the first week. I’m sure that I’ll slow WAY down once my body realizes it’s not going to get all the bad stuff it was getting before.
I wouldn’t have minded losing some weight before the wedding tomorrow but it didn’t happen so I bought some spanx type of thing instead! S1 called to say he is on his way from DC and will get here in a couple of hours. They are picking up their tuxes on the way and hope it fits, since the wedding is tomorrow. He is 6’6" tall!
