Parents of the HS Class of 2009 (Part 1)

S will be joining us for a light Thanksgiving Dinner, but our main get together will be Sat, or more exactly, whenever he can squeeze us in. His friends have first dibs. I guess that is the way of the world for us parents. Ah well we have to enjoy the time we get with him

Speaking of Thanksgiving yesterday, being the third thursday of November, heralded the arrival of this years Batch of Nouveau Beaujolais. A lovely, inexpensive, light, fruity wine that goes great with Turkey. Time to go down to my nearby BevMo and snag some.

I was surprised to read an article in our local paper (the annual “what wines to serve with Thanksgiving dinner” piece) that said not to waste your money of Beaujolais Vouveau. I’ve always enjoyed it, but then again, I admit to being a lightweight myself.

I’m a Pinot Noir fan with turkey because I like red but I also serve a Reisling for those who prefer white.

Have a wine tasting event tonight. Will be making the rounds and asking for new suggestions. Will let you know. Tomorrow night is the big black tie Gala that raises lots of $$$ for healthcare around here. Looking forward to a nice night out but still not able to wear my sparkly heels! At least my outfit will be sparkly! ;)

I think we still have a Reisling left over from the '08 family trip to Germany. May be time to break that out.

 news DS (high school class of 2013) is not so much a math student. He had a confidence shattering experience last year with a horrible “teacher” and is repeating Algebra. This year started out shaky too but he has been meeting with his Algebra teacher before school and I am happy to report that he scored his first B on a Math test since 7th grade  His three test scores this year so far have been 60%, 69% and now and 80%. I am really proud of the sprout! The light is coming on!

missypie break it out quick…whites don’t age well.

I’ve got an open Pinot Grigio - here’s a toast to historymom and historyson!

Way to go historyson!!! Perseverance really pays off!

Awesome H-Mom

Congrats to historyson!

So, sounds like we should add wine tasting to the bus trip to see Christmas decorations… This is sounding better & better all the time. :)

Hoping the bus can swing through Minnesota and pick up Modadunn and me on the way to Texas. I would be happy to bring the wine! ;)

Thanks guys!!!

Living in CA wine country maybe I should bring a mixed case or two. Does the bus have heated seats? We’ll need them if we are going to Minnesota!

I’ve been craving that caramel apple cider from Starbucks…with maybe a touch of rum added in…

Missed opportunity for me, the S, HS Class of '10, did not like our tour of Hobart & William Smith in August. I brought home all those Finger Lakes Winery Tours brochures hoping to get back over there sometime with H. Imagine all those Family Weekends that could have had some Winery Tours worked in for entertainment? Oh well, maybe he will end up near a micro brewery somewhere!

D#3 the Freshman at Alfred University will be home on Tuesday. Thank goodness for the University’s Ride Service website for students!

Yep SLUMOM part of the appeal of Willamette and Linfield was their location in Oregon Wine country…of course they are great schools to boot but I sure could have enjoyed some of those parents weekends ;)

I am all up for any kind of road trip. How fun would that be? I can just see me trying to explain this to H. Of course, he would probably just shake his head saying something along the lines of, “I am not surprised.”

I am seriously inept at picking wine - I only know good wine when I taste it and basically leave that up to anyone else who has the confidence to pick it. So… We will leave all wine loading to those in wine country, but I can definitely contribute to the rum and starbucks combo.

Tonight, however, we sit on the cusp of basketball season for D16. Parent meeting tonight and then after H&I will do dinner and D will head off to the fall play with friends. I wish we could count on her getting a ride home, but not to be. I really wanted to go see The Blind Side tonight. So… if anyone’s going, don’t tell me how it ends.

I don’t know how Blind Side ends - but the fella currently plays for the Baltimore Ravens.

Zetesis - I am looking in Odessagirl’s course catelog: It says -

Two semesters of the same language plus a cross-cultural studies course
- or -
Three semesters of the same language.

She is (Lord willing) going to study abroad Junior year spring semester.

So - I think she is technically finished learning languages. And maybe she didn’t even need to take the language this year. Since she tested out of 2 semesters and is studying abroad. Oh, well. Freshmen weren’t tested until a couple of days before their classes began.

D2 is on the road towards home but not home…staying with friends at the U of MN this evening. Will see what the night life is like and what her friends are doing there. Could be a good comparison for her…or not. ;)

Ok–Portland #1 microbrew of the USA just to break up the wine drinking. Can meet the new shelter doggie who is continuing to be a great dog (10 days in). Maybe watch our neighborhood coyote from the bus windows. Have made about 10 calls and no one from the gov’t will do anything and there are no for fee companies that can work in our county either. This coyote acts like a pet–lying in driveways in the middle of the day, left two half eaten chicken breasts left in our drive way while D was walking dog late one night. Ok–back to the roadtrip–

Sign me up for the road trip. I will bring some fleece blankies and chocolate chip cookies.

I’ll go if you all will tolerate the radio or some CDs and my singing (I have a good voice though, honestly) I cannot ride or drive down the road without singing. May be where son gets it.
I am always up for a road trip
