Parents of the HS Class of 2010 and college years beyond (Part 1)

Ds’s flight is delayed. :(. But we’ll pick him up and head straight to a graduation party where he’ll get to see lots of friends, so it’s all good.

Twin, sorry about the basement. No basements here, so that’s a problem we’ll never have.

Ds2 starts his internship tomorrow, so he’s excited.

Sorry about the flooded basements.

Sending positive vibes your way, DB.

Rainy days and Mondays… but things here are generally good.

Pun intended? BTW, normally I am in ATL on Sunday afternoon, but on 5/27 we were busy moving D2 into DC instead.

You are most welcome. It takes zero artistic or technical ability. Pretty much Google Images, glassgiant.com, and copy/paste are all that you need. Here are the original instructions. If you need real help, LIMOMOF2 and JC40 are both experts.

When we dropped D1 at college, D2 (then 14 YO) cried the most. I think that she knew that she was getting ready to be smothered. BTW, the dinner looks quite presentable indeed.

Munequita – I forget exactly what contacts D2 wears, but like so much of her life they are some sort of special kind that we have to remember to re-order well in advance as they aren’t stocked on this planet. She definitely got new cleaning solution. She said that her eyes are doing better, but she is going to wear her glasses for a few days to be safe.

If nothing else, D2 has learned to appreciate her meal plan at school. Her report is, “I think I’m going to get sick of PB&J. I hate being broke and self-reliant.” (*) I told her to find out if they have a refrigerator/freezer at work where she can keep some frozen lunches, etc. and to go get some decent bread, meat, cheese, etc. to keep in her room which does have a mini-fridge. On a positive note, the report from work is “I love this place!” They gave her the option of doing website or curatorial work… she chose the curatorial path which is much more interesting to her. She did send me the URL for the exhibit on which she will be working… very interesting. Tomorrow night she is going to her sister’s apartment to watch “Pretty Little Liars” (?). I think that DW is a little jealous as PLL was her thing to do with D2 after she got home from Spain last year.

(*) – Note: we have not turned D2 loose to fend for herself on the streets of DC, nor is she indigent. Broke = Has a budget that includes some of her own $. ;)

Hi all! I’m doing my part to keep us on page one. I haven’t posted for quite awhile, but life has a way of getting in the way.

It’s so fun to read about everyone’s internship. I wish we had a list of these, just like we did for our list of colleges, but I could see it getting rather huge with everyone posting not only where your DD/DS is interning, but also which department, and then what projects he/she is doing. I hope everyone gains terrific insights, has superb mentors, and offers to return again after graduation. (ahhhh, we can only wish that these “internships” turn into paying jobs, can’t we? But with the unemployment rate looking so bleak, I worry about so much reliance on internships.)

The latest around here is that BB3 started his internship last week. He loves it, not surprisingly. He’s so easy-going, it doesn’t take much. So long as there’s a buddy to hang out with, life is good.
BB2 needs everyone’s PVCs this week. He’s still finishing exams and papers this week and we’ll see him on Saturday.
BB3 has another P/T job (aka unpaid internship right now) which starts on Wednesday. Let’s hope it’ll be a good experience. He needs someplace where he’s not underemployed and right now, we’re okay that this is unpaid so long as they give him responsibilities that make him feel good about himself.

And Mom is baaaa-ck, going strong. 95 y/o and looking like not a day past 94. She had been rather sick while at my brother’s and then sister’s houses, but she has fully recovered and doing really well.

Sorry to hear about flooded basements and wisdom teeth surgery. No fun indeed.

limabeans–glad your Mom is back in action! My father (going on 90) had a month where if it wasn’t the heart, it was the lungs (a-fib, pneumonia, more a-fib) but with a new medicine it looks like he’s back in the rehab business! We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

Send the PVC to S for his 2 exams today. Either some CS area or Diffi-Q, I forget which is when, but they all sound impossible to me!

Sending PVC to those in exams!

Lima - Glad your Mom is baaaa-ck;) I’m assuming you meant BB1 (not BB3) for the unpaid internship… hope it goes well !

good morning all!! dreary rainy day here…coffee is ready

pvc wishes to all for great exam results, safe travels and to lima’s mom!

good morning everyone and thanks for the coffee, p56!

Lots of :heart::heart:’s to our elderly parents. My mom is 94.

(kind of fitting that this post will make me a senior member :))

congrats on senior status psychmom!!

Thanks for the coffee and the :heart::heart:’s to elderly parents. Mine are 82 and 80 respectively, struggling physically but still in good spirits overall, especially when the grandchildren visit!

yawn

Ds1 had an ortho appt at 8 a.m. He’s soooo tired, and so am I. He has a pre-op appt at 2 heading into tomorrow surgery. No rest for the weary. In great news, he’s lost almost 10 pounds this semester. I’d love to see him lose 10 more, and he seems motivated to do so, but not sure how the surgery may slow that down.

OK, off to drive ds2 to the first day of his internship. He doesn’t have a parking pass yet so can’t drive himself today.

Yea for having all my chicks back in the roost!!!

Echoing the sentiment of :heart::heart: to our elderly parents. My mom is 84, and will be travelling to Minneapolis for graduation on Thursday. Last time she was in MN, she got VERY ill, was hospitalized, my sister had to fly out and get her, and she was rehospitalized when she got home. They never really made a definitive diagnosis, but the theory was E.coli. My mom swore she’d never go back to MN. That was before D chose Carleton. So she’s ready to head out there this week, and hoping to head out there again in 2 more years!

If all went well yesterday, my kids are finished with school, and can enjoy a few days of fun. They are having nice weather there, unlike here were it is 50’s and rainy.

YDS - so wish I had my chicks in my nest today. Only two more days.:cool:

Quick drive by to send good wishes to everyone still finishing up with exams, getting ready for graduations & to everyone getting all their chicks back in the nest. S2 leaves on Sunday for his job on campus. I think I feel worse about this then when he left in September for school. :frowning:

Lima: Glad that your Mom is doing better. And thanks for the update on the beanie babies! :)

YDS: Good Luck tomorrow for the surgery. Keep us posted.

Congrats to our newest Senior Member Psychmom!! :D

It’s a little slow here today. I think I might try to talk my boss into taking a Costco run! He loves walking around there and I love getting out of the office for a bit. Of course now that I said that, some client will probably call with an emergency and my plans will be put off for another day.

alice, how great that your mom can make the trip. I’m already thinking about who, if anyone, can make it to ds1’s graduation. Congrats on your family’s big milestone. :)

Gosh, I forgot to give the other good news – ds1 will get his braces off before going off to study abroad in the fall. He’s really happy about that.

PNJ, here’s hoping that your day stays calm.

Good morning!

YDS: Congrats to braces off and good luck with the surgery! My S2 had braces on FOREVER so I know what great news that is!

I am jealous of those with chicks returned or returning. I still have over a week until S2 comes home.

Last night was S3’s “drama banquet”. It was a bit long. My husband commented that they sure like to give each other awards! S3 got some sort of an award, but we didn’t hear exactly what it was for. We joked that it was the “we feel bad for forgetting to put his name in the program so we are giving him an award” award. They said something about he is a breath of fresh air and has a good attitude.

Happy Tuesday!

Just stopping by for a page 2 rescue.

I too am jealous of the returning chicks. There was just no time between Spring and Summer semesters, so Mr PMKjr did not come home. Which means by the time we see him in August, it will have been nearly six months since we’ve seen each other. Sigh…

I had a strange errand to run today. The high school called and said we’d never picked up our son’s diploma and did we want it? So, it was back to his old stomping grounds and now we have the dilploma in our custody. I wonder why we didn’t get it two years ago? Must have gotten lost in all the hub-bub of graduation.

pmk: We have not picked up S2’s either. For D1 they handed them out at graduation. For S2 he was supposed to go pick it up but never did. What makes it worse is that S3 is there everyday and even still we have not picked it up.

Am here and extraordinarily thankful to be so. Make sure your kids know CPR. I have zero recollection from the time we got home from Israel til last week after the docs pulled me out of the deep freeze. S2 saved my life. No kidding.

Wow CD, did S2 have to do CPR? So glad to have you back here with us!!!
