DS is a hard worker and freshman on the varsity squad, he’s hoping to row in college. He’s a lightweight and his split today was 1.50. I couldn’t erg for 2 minutes!</p>
<p>You don’t know how glad I am to be posting!</p>
<p>We’ve gotten over 24 inches of snow in the last day and a half. Where I live is officially in a state of emergency. We did not have power from 8pm last night until 6pm today. It was SOOO cold. </p>
<p>My flight to Scripps for JES was cancelled so I couldn’t go 
I did a phone interview instead…</p>
<p>We’re supposed to get hit again on tuesday…oh boy</p>
<p>DE is in a state of emergency, too, and I have friends downstate without power.</p>
<p>rocket, you seem to have the worst luck with interview weekends! But I’m sure Scripps understands–they probably had other people not able to get out of the East Coast–and you’ll be AMAZING at phone interviews by the time the job search rolls around.</p>

<p>rocket - I’m so sorry that your trip to Scripps was canceled due to the weather, and for everything else! I hope your heat is working again, and I’m glad you were able to have a phone interview. {{{{Hugs}}}} We got lucky this time, but I think we’re in the line of fire for snow again on either Tues. or Wed. too.</p>

<p>austinmtmom - you and your D have so much energy! All these auditions! I never realized how much these kids go through. I hope it all works out for her.</p>
<p>RE: Ergs - having rowed in highschool myseld and now the owner of one of the ergs the team replaced when they got new ones, D uses it all the time to stay in shape. Last year I wanted to see if I could still do a 2K (2000 meter piece, usually the standard all rowers are tested by) - I could, with a still respectable time, but as I was completing it, more than once did I think “why am I doing this?” LOL - it’s one thing when on the team, quite another when it’s just because!</p>
<p>I do graphic designs for many t-shirts for D’s teams and many other corporate or travel events. We do many for crew and one of ours on zazzle gets sold quite often - on the front it says “Ergalicious” and on the back it says “Ergalicious, very vicious, make them rowers crazy” LOL</p>
<p>I am so bummed for everyone missing auditions and interviews - may they all be accomadating! I truly hope Rice comes through as you mentioned it was her dream school!</p>
<p>I don’t see them opening schools here before Wednesday but they seem optimistic - we’ll see!</p>

<p>To all my superbowl peeps!! Good luck to your “Who Dat”"(Saints) and your “We Dat” (Colts). I am a big AFC supporter, but gosh my heart is with the Saints.</p>
<p>We have 24" on the ground, and there is one HUGE county snow plow who is cutting through the main road in our subdivision. The dog is not happy that she has no green spot to piddle on. </p>
<p>I am VERY thankful our plumber lives right up the street from us and was able to come before the blizzard got too bad and repaired a broken valve that was spraying under the sink. Was willing to pay him emergency rates, too, but he said nah. Needless to say, he will continue to get our business (and given that we have a 44 year old house, that is one thing I can be sure of)!</p>

<p>Austinmtmom, MuppetMom, 1sttimemom, and all with auditions - I really admire you and your kids going through this process. I can only imagine how stressful this is.</p>
<p>Youdontsay No, I have not reached the being a softie stage yet. I think that will probably happen about one week before he heads to school. Our daughter, however, tells us all the time that we are way less strict with him than we were with her.</p>

<p>Good news! My D’s audition has been rescheduled for Tuesday! So, we are doing the happy dance. Now I just hope we can get to the airport on Monday!</p>
<p>RocketLouise, I am sorry that you couldn’t get to your interview. I bet you were wonderful on the phone anyway. Afterall, we think you are terrific and we only “talk” to you on the internet!</p>
<p>Am I being soft on my D? Hmmm, yes I think so. But, only because she has so much on her plate right now. I know she is tense over auditions. She is spending hours practicing, so time for cleaning rooms, etc is in short supply. When we are done with auditions and just waiting for results, I will go back to normal. Even her brothers aren’t crossing her much. When she wants to use the sun room to practice in (best acoustics), they just roll their eyes and pack up and go somewhere else. They, too, hope this will pass!</p>

Glad Rice was able to accommodate a re-scheduled audition. Just think, if your D ends up at Rice, she may only have snow as a memory. I remember going to a presentation by a group of schools-Rice, Chicago, Cornell, Brown and Columbia. Rice was the last group to present and the other schools had shown campus pictures from the different seasons. The Rice rep showed a slide and said, “This is what it looks like on OUR campus in February.” The kids in the slide were playing beach volleyball. Everyone in the room sighed. LOL Good luck to her with all her auditions!</p>

<p>Ds1 never says I treat ds2 easier/better, but ds2 always thinks ds1 gets the upperhand. Mostly the difference in their personality that cause the difference in perception. Yes, ds1 gets prvileges ds2 doesn’t because ds1 is older; whenever he complains, I point out he got an e-mail account, a FB account, a cell phone years ahead of his brother (chronologically) and that if he wants me to treat them perfectly equal then I’d be happy to cancel his phone line and take back the FB account. He usually smiles and sheepishly leaves the room then.</p>

<p>rocket – so sorry you missed the trip to Scripps. My daughter did that weekend a few years ago and really enjoyed it, but decided a women’s college wasn’t for her. I’m sure you were great in your phone interview anyway.</p>

<p>Alright, guys, I’m sorry. I feel like complaining. I’m not a sore loser, but I am a sore, sore recover-er.</p>
<p>Anyways, I had to get my wisdoms out. No big deal, it was going to happen eventually anyways. I asked while I was in there, why not get a linguial frenectomy (“tongue un-tie”)? I was going to be miserable anyways. So I go in, I come out, and for once I bit of good luck - there’s plenty of discomfort, but I’m far from miserable. I’m thinking great! Then my surgeon - and the internet - tells me that recovery takes WEEKS. WEEKS! I volunteered for 3-5 days. I mean, that was a reasonable assumption of recovery, right? Well, so I’m not in a lot of pain… but I can barely talk. WEEKS? When am I supposed to go back to work!?</p>
<p>^^I went back to work two days after my surgery. I could eat the day after and had no pain within 5 days. Just take ALOT of vicodin(did they give you vics? if not, make them give them to you) for the first 3 days and you’ll be good</p>
<p>Make sure you enjoy the drugs…they are nice while they last</p>
<p>The sun is out here (at least for a short time!) and icicles are falling off the house. Little daggers.</p>
<p>OK, now S not only has to figure out which college to go to in the fall, he also has to figure out what to do this summer since the Israel study/travel program he applied to was cancelled. :(</p>
<p>They’re going to “restructure” and offer it again in 2011. That would only work if he flunked senior year, haha.</p>
<p>And it was the perfect program for him…and he’s the taciturn type so I can’t figure out what he really wants instead. Blech.</p>

<p>GWU rescheduled theirs for March 6 & 7. pondering whether or not to purchase a ticket… she has so much on her plate these days and March is filling up fast. they do have a DVD option for kids who can’t come to town… although it hardly feels the same as being there. maybe they’re more likely to take DVD submissions into consideration when they cancel/reschedule the event? idk</p>
<p>this thursday we leave straight from school to go to Tallahassee to visit FSU. we should get there around 8:00,in the middle of the Honors Open House, then check-in at hotel around 10:00. Check-out at 7 AM and go to campus for admitted students day. (i hope she loves the FSU campus as much as i do!)
leave Tally at 4:00 - get home around 9/10 on Friday.
Be at airport at 5:30 on saturday morning to put her solo on a plane to DC for AU audition. Comes back the same day - around 11 PM.<br>
