<p>LOL rocket6louise! I was in my 50s before I had my first Vicodin. I enjoyed being pain-free, and my coworkers are still reminding me about my Vicodin naps.</p>
<p>So sorry to hear about the cancelled Israel study/travel program, mommusic. Hopefully your dear son will find another program. Our son thinks he has his summer planned – eat, sleep, baseball, friends, the beach, video games. Ha ha ha! He knows that will change.</p>

<p>Continued best wishes for all digging out from the latest storm. This one missed Minnesota, but I am sure there are plenty more to come… average annual snowfall here – about 36+ inches where I live now, but 80+ inches where I grew up. My dad kept a front end loader (a big yellow one!) in our driveway all winter and kept our driveway and most of the neighborhood cleared after big snowfalls. Then (and you’ll love this ELY) he would go over to the outdoor hockey rinks and clear them, too. </p>

<p>My back went out Friday afternoon. Most weekends we don’t have much planned but this weekend we had fun stuff scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights and I missed it all. I’ve been throwing myself a non-stop pity party; very attractive!</p>

<p>pmk, sorry to hear about your back. DH is a strong guy, but once or twice a year he will do something as little as picking up a pencil, and his back will go out! One time he just had to lie on the floor for awhile, because he couldn’t move. You have the right to feel sorry for yourself!</p>
<p>MuppetMom, I glad it worked out. Is it a musical audition? Sometimes I wish I had continued in piano in college. I miss it.</p>
<p>r6l, sorry your interview weekend didn’t work out. What a storm! It looks as if the next one may miss Maine, too. What’s the deal?? I told DH, “Just think of all the poor homeowners in DC - they don’t have ‘plow guy’ around to come do their driveways - they have to do it themselves!” Scary thought. We did our own driveway ONCE this year, trying to save money. That was about 9 inches. We said forget it and called up plow guy again.</p>
<p>D and I shoveled out both cars and the driveway, sidewalk, etc. I told her I was going to fly her or drive her home from college next winter to help me shovel, LOL! She’s such a great help! DH has MS and can’t exert that much energy/strain without many effects later so I don’t let him do anything but help me clear off the top of my SUV since at 6’6" he has a much better reach than I do!</p>
<p>We had a sighting of D2! She and her friends trudged by to drop off her gear on route to a snowball fight at the high school. I imagine she’ll be home this evening although since they cancelled school tomorrow she may find a new place to hang.</p>
<p>I am much more sore today than I was yesterday but we shoveled for about 3 hours today which may be most of it - hopefully I won’t ache too much later or tomorrow! I may have to follow D1s lead and do the stretching on the Wii Fit :)</p>
<p>I am hoping to not have to go into work tomorrow but fear I may have to try although our roads are fairly awful still. I’m not expecting the kids to go to school Tuesday either but we’ll see - and more snow expected then too!</p>
<p>I don’t recall so many people posting on a Sunday! Glad to hear you are all safe and sound in your homes. DH and I planned to prepare a bunch of snacks and appetizers for the big game (even though I don’t really watch) and the kids decide they’re going to their friends’ instead!<br>
Anyone starting to feel separation anxiety? I keep telling myself it’s premature because my son hasn’t even decided where to attend!</p>
<p>There’s so much news I can’t keep up but did want to say I hope PMK gets better and yea to r6l for getting out of school.</p>
<p>lilmom, I have to stop myself from getting too wistful (I wrote earlier about being a softie). Ds1 just went off to his Super Bowl party with the same group of guys who were at our house last year. <em>sigh</em> And before he left, he worked on a job app for a gig that lasts all day, six days a week for nine weeks, so I feel like I’ll hardly be able to see him this summer. But it’ll be good experience being an empty-nester. Monday, ds’s sports season starts – yes, his last ever, probably. <em>double sigh</em></p>
<p>I have huge separation anxiety - I was even ranking the schools D applied to in my head last night by how close they were to home and keeping my fingers crossed that a close one works out! I know she’d prefer to stay close too so I’m not worried about that but I can’t imagine her not being here every day. I think she has separation anxiety too as well.</p>
<p>I feel bad for parents, just as they’re getting wistful and maybe even sad about kids leaving, the kids are getting super excited to leave.</p>
<p>I, for one, cannot wait to go to college. If I could leave tomorrow, I totally would. I’m done with hs, and ready to see what happens next…I’m not remotely sad about being done…</p>
<p>I don’t know how my mom and dad are…sometimes they seem a little wistful(the senior picture thing) but other times they seem the opposite-ie, not making me do graduation or a graduation party and letting me visit all my schools by myself. …</p>
<p>then again, they do KNOW I am going far away. My closest school is about 11 hours by car, so it’s not like I can suddenly change my mind and be close…I’ve been clear about this since I was about 10…I wanted to go AWAY for college</p>
<p>R6L: My daughter is similarly eager to go to college. Her nearest school would also be about 12 hrs away by car. Most would be even further away. I will of course, miss her, but true to my screenname I am vicariously excited about her flying away from the nest.</p>
<p>r6l - I think this too is where it really depends on the kid. With D1, I’ve always known her leaving would be tough, and she did too. With D2, she could leave tomorrow and not look back and I’d miss her yes, but also totally understand. She’s always had a free spirit and my independence streak and that’s just who she is. Not sure yet about S3, I think he’ll be more like D1 but also share traits with D2. I was just telling D1 this morning while we were shoveling that it won’t matter how near or far D2 goes to school, I won’t see her often likely whereas D1 really wants now to stay close to home so she can come home when needed. She may find too she doesn’t need to but the option will be a good one for her. D2 though has stated she has no intention of staying close.</p>
<p>r6l, my feelings aren’t hurt by the thought that ds is ready to fly the nest. That’s what I’ve been working toward for almost 18 years now. But it doesn’t mean I’m not sad at the prospect of not having him around. He’s ready to go, and that’s OK; I’m sad about it, and that’s OK, too. Some wise woman once said, “And if it’s not OK, it’ll still be OK.” :)</p>
<p>I just had a friend call who lives nowhere near the mud flow areas, only to find her power has been out since yesterday afternoon (and continuing.) I’m wondering how many football fans will be doing without today in the mid-Atlantic region, due to the blizzard taking down tree limbs, followed by power lines. Yikes! And then the construction accident at the power plant in Middleton, CT (college town.) I wonder how much they had to pay those workers to work on Super Bowl Sunday and now some are trapped beneath the rubble.</p>
<p>I was reading some interesting stuff on Yahoo. Two DB for the Colts graduated from the same HS, same year and are now playing their dream for the same team in the Super Bowl. What a story! In one of the playoff games, one of the players intercepted a pass and the other threw a block so the first player had a nice return for a TD.</p>

<p>lilmom More appetizers for you and your husband our son is off to watch the game with friends, too. Were thankful that he has such great friends, and know that this will be their last Super Bowl together. The boys will end up spread across the country Im going to miss all of them! But, as rocket6louise tells us, our kids are so excited for their next adventure. And theyre doing exactly what weve spent the last 17+ years preparing them to do. Just as vicariousparent said we need to be excited to see them fly, whether their flight is 25, 250, or 2500 miles. Im not going to say I wont be sad because I know I will, but Ill be happy for him.</p>

<p>It’s amazing how many homes have had power restored already…they had about 60% restored as of 8 am. The power company know what will p.o. people – missing the game!</p>
<p>S2’s GF had no power from 6:30 Fri. til about 3 am today.</p>
<p>School system has already cancelled for Mon. and Tues. – but another 5+" expected Tues. afternoon-Wed. am. AGH!!</p>
<p>I’ve spent most of the day entertaining guests (family friends who are moving to Florida in a few weeks) who are originally from Italy, and we’ve watched a couple of very cool, high-profile European soccer games this afternoon. I completely forgot, until I checked CC, that the Super Bowl is today! Shows my cultural perspective, I suppose :D</p>
<p>This does mean that I haven’t started my homework yet, but I don’t have that much so I’m not worried in the least. Plus, I have a 4-hour lunch break tomorrow, so I can do most of my work then. I love being a senior!</p>
<p>I forgot about the Super Bowl until I saw friends’ Facebook statuses. Yay for being an immigrant too. XD</p>
<p>Like r6l, I have a snow day tomorrow. And we’re supposed to get MORE snow on Wednesday… which is good except I hope it doesn’t delay Swat’s EDII notifications!</p>
<p>^Aah, that would be terrible! (Swat EDII notifications being delayed, I mean)…I actually vaguely thought about that, but then again, I wasn’t really sure how badly snow would…affect mail and stuff? Logic would say that it would, I suppose…(I’m such a Californian here…:D) </p>
<p>Although, since they officially say that notification is by the 15th, with the 14th being a Sunday and the 15th being President’s Day, I have been mentally preparing myself for the fact that the letter might not arrive until the 16th, 17th, or even 18th…
