<p>I love football but admit I was watching the superbowl more for the commercials which haven’t been as good as they used to be. But, our office does one of those pools where you are randomly assigned numbers and if either team matches the last number at the end of any quarter you win. I had awful numbers randomly assigned but with 3 minutes left my husband asked who would win if the final numbers were 1 and 7 and I looked and it was me! So I very intently was watching those last 3 minutes - woohoo, $50! Glad I already filled out the FAFSA ;)</p>

<p>Ok, back to business. My son and I realized that we both missed the fact that he would have to fill out another app to get into an honors program at one of the schools. I think it’s because the school wasn’t at the top of his list until a couple of weeks ago.</p>
<p>I was surprised when he just calmly said he would just get it done - the deadline’s in 2 weeks. Just when I was turning my attention to planning the grad party (haha.)</p>

<p>Whoo hoo, Saints!! I think it’s so cool that Drew Brees went to my high school (Austin Westlake)! Ate in the same cafeteria I did, lol. He seems like a nice guy, too. We had a fun party - everyone who came was pulling for New Orleans.</p>
<p>Too bad S had other plans. We went to a 50th birthday party of a friend who’s the mother of a pre-school days friend of S. She’s been really into ballroom dancing lately. Well, she also invited some of the dance instructors to the party. Wow, it was like watching Dancing with the Stars!</p>
<p>Congrats to the NOLA Saints fans. I was with you in spirit today and this was a good lift for NOLA. Bet they are partying down tonight. I was in San Antonio the night their basketball team won the NBA championship and the city was rocking.</p>
<p>Heh heh, kind of fun watching the next set of parents getting ready to send their juniors through the gauntlet of SAT tests. We’ve lent out all of S’s study books. </p>

<p>r6l, we’re having a grad party (the day after) for our son. It’ll be a family thing - and all of our family is 2-3 hours or more away so it will be a busy weekend. Only the grandparents will be invited to the graduation (unless other insist on attending) because the HS will have 500+ graduates and you can imagine the logistical problems with a big crowd!</p>
<p>We got about 27 inches here. School is canceled for tomorrow. I talked to a family friend who is on the Board of Alderman for the city and he said that students probably won’t be back in school until next Monday. All of the sidewalks are still covered (those which the city needs to do) and most of the roads are still pretty bad.</p>

<p>CD we are still living parallel lives! We had just this problem, this past week though silly me, since we had drainage issues I didn’t even think to look under the sink so it ended up dripping through our living room ceiling for the better part of the day. I was sure it was a pipe in the floor. At least it was an easy fix and the ceiling never looked good in that corner. That bathroom had issues even before we moved in…</p>
<p>S2 had his Tufts interview on Saturday. So while I feel that we got done out of our snow, I’m actually just as glad it passed us by this time.</p>

My area of NY was spared this time, but I am reading that we may be getting a snowstorm mid-week…yipes!</p>
<p>Congrats to the Saints fans out there! Hubby invited a few friends over to watch the game, and they all agreed it was a good one. I tuned in during half-time and watched the awesome performance by The Who! Ahh, the memories…</p>

<p>Erging is the bane of my existence. Our team had a 24 “erg-a-thon” as a fundraiser and some how the upperclassmen got the 9-9 shift; meaning 9 P.M to NINE IN THE MORNING. Only 12 of us actually showed 0_0. We all were so dead. We had to come back at 1 for the finale too, and I have never seen such angry people haha. We survived though, and broke the world record so I guess it was worth it. In the end it was “fun” (in a delirious, sleep-deprived sort of way) and all the seniors now rejoice over how we will never have to do that again.</p>
<p>It was FORTY-FIVE degrees outside today in “Sunny” Florida. Bright, warm Miami for the Superbowl? Not accurate. Congrats to all the Saints fans! All the Buccaneers in our area were cheering for you and Drew Brees! :)</p>
<p>I’m able to drive a vehicle and operate heavy machinery again! My back feels bruised more than anything else at this point but I’ll take it. Mr PMK and PMK jr. are still laughing about my behavior while under the influence. I suppose it’s a blessing that I’d make a terrible junkie. </p>

<p>The big news here is no news yet regarding National Merit. If he gets it, he’ll be the first one in several years at his school, so I think if they knew already, they’d tell him. I have forced myself to stay away from the threads about it because I just do not need to add fuel to the (crazy!) fire. </p>
<p>a&f, I am very impressed! One of my best friends is a director of rowing plus coaches high school varsity. I’ve never been on an erg but I know all about them. Rowers add a whole new level to the word “competitive.” I’m a lifelong sailor, so we have a good natured rivalry, which is fun. </p>
<p>I do sympathize with all of you who are snowed in but can I tell ya that the mosquitos are back in south Texas? It’s February!</p>
<p>pmk - so glad the back is better! As for mosquitos - in one of our recent warm stretches - crazy DC weather - I got quite a few mosquito bites and was not happy! As it is I have to avoid being outdoors in the summer due to their attraction to me and rather enjoy when they are gone for the winter!</p>
<p>They are saying 10" more to come tomorrow - I also don’t see the kids back at school tomorrow so if we get the next round of school I’ll be surprised if they get back this week. It will be very interesting on how they make any of this up or if they just make up a couple and petition the state for leniancy on the rest.</p>

<p>pmk, we haven’t heard about National Merit either, so I wouldn’t worry.
We are finally visiting two schools (Reed and Rice) for the first time during our school’s February break. I guess I will have to pack mosquito repellent!</p>
<p>PMK: Glad that you’re back is feeling somewhat better; I sympathize as I’ve had that issue sporadically since I was back in college (so it’s been a loooong time.) Hopefully you’ll hear about NMF soon; at the very least, they’re sending the letters directly to the students tomorrow so you should know at the end of the week.</p>
<p>D asked her gc about her status on Friday; what with the 3 snow days & state testing being affected & being pushed to later last week, I figured it would be at the bottom of the list for the principal. GC told her she would probably find out directly before she’d find out from the school. But…I got a text from her this morning & she made it to National Merit Finalist!!! Yay!</p>
<p>For my northeast friends on here, I just saw that Winter Storm Watches are being posted for a storm Tuesday night into Wednesday. Geez, people won’t even be dug out from the weekend storm before this one hits. Everyone stay safe & warm!</p>
