Parents of the HS Class of 2012 - Original

disneygals - so glad your D is ok. I do believe (though don’t ever wish for) the first accidents help young drivers become better drivers - they see it can really happen to them and how fast!!

mspearl - so relieved you’re back!

No car accidents yet for DD, but she was hit by a car last summer when she was standing in a parking lot with me. The car was backing out of a parking space, didn’t see us and just knocked her to the ground. I pulled her up and out of the way and then went more than a little wackaloony!!! I threw open the driver’s door and started yelling at him - he put his hands up like he thought I was going to strike him!!

MommyMommy - I would think your D would be a “prettiest eyes” candidate

If they had an “abs of steel” award D might win that one

D’s class votes awards in Dec. It was the day of her hip surgery so she did not get to vote. The awards are a little different, but the ones I remember: cutest couple–broke up after Christmas, biggest flirt–one of her friends, VERY true, but gets around, new boy every few weeks, now dating one for 2 months who is incredibly decent and calming her down!, most clueless—was offended, yeah, well, that one was dead on; student teachers dread to see in their class–also one of her friends, though not close, not embarrassed in the least! Will be fun to see the rest in the yearbook.

Ms Pearl: welcome back, your voice sounds strong and determined.

Disney: glad your D is OK, she will probably be sore tomorrow.

Hahahaha, is anyone reading actual posts anymore because the edits are hilarious and I’m so busy getting to the next one I’m missing the posts. Glad no one was hurt in the accident and great to hear from MsPearl.

DS, gotta love that kid’s humor. He goes to school in a tough urban area with a big police presence that often includes helicopters. He texted me right before the AP Euro test with “Helicopters circling overhead. Another day in paradise.”

saintfan: ha re: edit note. D says she’s so enjoying this boy’s company, that she’s cool being friends if that’s what he wants. It’s just a mystery.

Anyone still looking for a graduation gift idea?!!?!

[Why Facebook Stock Makes The Best Graduation Present Possible - Forbes](Why Facebook Stock Makes The Best Graduation Present Possible)

I had an amazing dream. In my dream DS whispered something in my ear and I couldn’t quite make it out. Then he said it louder and it was, “I’m deferring college a year.” Well, what to do in such a situation? I rushed to my laptop to log on to CC and my computer turned into a 3D thing that was like one of those maps that rises up and I was looking all over for the Parent Forum and instead of my mouse being an arrow on the screen it was a helicopter – blades whirring loudly flying over the map. Interpretation?

mimk6: remind me again of the various drugs you’re on…

Actually, it sounds completely rational. Problem arises, you go to a trusted source for information, and the feedback you get lets you know that you’re a helicopter parent and you need to let your S fly away on his own to explore his dreams of becoming a tattoo/piercing artist before settling down into the business of college. Nothing to worry about. ;)

Every time I see on FB that my 11th grade niece has a new boyfriend, I wonder what her campus reputation is. I think her average relationship might last 3-4 weeks. And her ‘single’ time between relationships is that same length of time or less. Sometimes I wonder if there’s a waiting line. Very difficult to discuss with my clueless brother & his wife as they probably won’t make any better parenting decisions at this point and they seem blind to everything. Wish we lived a lot closer to each other so auntie could knock some heads together.

totally gratuitous post, just so I can edit . . .

I really don’t like those awards, since I would have been voted Most Likely to Not be Voted Most Likely.

Yes, let’s hope for Most Likely to Get Married to be first to Turkey Drop. I think it’s because they have been together for a long time in High School Time (2.5 yrs) and they do not do the Breakup Makeup Blah Blah Blah Drama.

It’s not quite happy hour in our time zone, but getting close!

Prama, sloths, sluts and capuchin monkeys?

I call happy hour now! I am going to have a Stone Sour Amaretto before heading off to sell tickets.

OK 4pm Pacific Daylight Time - woot woot it’s happy hour!

I’m having the Trader Joe’s spread with a glass of MizzBee’s Green FIn white wine paired with a nice Garlic Naan and hummus.

I’m under the lilac on the grass in the sun (kitten is eating long grass for happy hour) with my new New Yorker that came in the mail this afternoon.

Weather’s amazing here today… but starting to get a little bit hot for a fussy Oregonian… except I stay in the shade under some tall fir trees. D and I are signed up for a quarter marathon in the early morning tomorrow… and I’m quite worried actually since all my great plans to train beforehand haven’t quite materialized.

I want garlic naan, too! Now you’re making me want to go to my friends’ Indian restaurant just to get some of their freshly-made yummilicious cheese and raisin naan. Too bad I let the kid take my car to go out for sushi with one of my co-workers who doesn’t drive. Guess I’ll skip the naan and go straight for some wine. You just have to work with what you’ve got. :)

Parents’ flight arrives in 4 hours and house still needs much work! Furthermore, our temporary extra child is currently asleep in their bed (pulled all-nighter last night finishing project, sigggh). So why am I in front of computer and laughing out loud at prama and dreams. Y’all are so funny!

A big shout out to mspearl- glad to have you back, and hope you are enjoying the highly witty and giddy posting go on here these days… as a good way to lift your spirits!

My boss was insensitive to suggestions re: closing the office at 4 in honor of glorious weather. But come 4:45, a few restless types found it hard to resist the song of the margarita. Child has car=absweetmarie was free to have two. There might be singing on the walk home from the El stop.
