After S2 was born, we brought our older son to meet Mark Brown (Arthur author) who is local. He signed our copy of Arthur’s Baby.

Added: Yay for Momsings S - for being official and, more importantly, for the $$$!

momsings - Wow, to the HUGE merit award. Congrats to your S. What happy news!

Hooray!!!

I guess the package makes it worth the wait!

Congrats to momsings!

S got his information packet today - id our other UR kids get theirs? They sent a T-shirt. Somehow he got a small? I wonder if he can trade…

Loved Rugrats and especially loved it was on at 7:30 so my kids knew they had to be bathed and ready for bed if they wanted to watch it.

Land Before Time traumatized my oldest. The mother dies. It was his Bambi moment and he was really upset because he realized I could die.

Hooray momsings!!! Great news!

Rugrats, Traveling Thornberries and unfortunately, Barney, also big favorites for my D.

Hooray momsings!!! That’s so awesome.

Just when I thought it was over…
I thought S just had his IB Spanish exam. But he has an AP chem final this week too! His teacher wanted to give it to them while studying for the AP exam was fresh in their minds. I wonder if he’s going to have finals in any other classes? He still has another month of school (graduation is June 22nd–are we last???).

rerun---- No, my D still has IB Biology Thu and Friday. I asked, “Then what?” She said there are some art projects and probably a lot of movie watching. Hmmm. I wonder what teachers did at the end of the year before movies were available on VHS/DVD (she said wryly).

All in our household are Hayao Miyazaki fans - My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service and Spirited Away. They (the two boys) still mention these films they saw as kids. I can still remember being mesmerized by My Neighbor Totoro. If you have never seen any of his films I highly recommend them for adults and kids!

C’mon, Jaylynn… Don’t you remember those projector and movie reel machines from the 1970’s? :)

Wow! I didn’t check in this weekend, and it took a while to catch up with everything!

Congrats to those who have graduated - both HS and College.

Hope all the illnesses, stress, anguish, etc. that have gripped some of you are moving out of your houses.

DS still has several weeks of school - and today the AP English teacher let the kids know that since they are done with the AP exam, they can start work on a “small” research paper due before finals!!! I’m not sure how interesting they’re going to be to read. I can’t imagine my DS or his friends are going to expend much effort.

Had a nice weekend and mother’s day. Had the little girl my friend is taking care of over to play since she wasn’t going to celebrate mother’s day. This morning was a little tough after the weekend break, but I’m so proud of her-she’s been to school 6 days in a row (something she hasn’t been able to do since she got out of the hospital.) Oh - and she was able to start at the new school especially for kids with emotional trauma! We’re also in the process of getting her some much needed therapy at home to help with the separation anxiety in the morning.

Got the Dr’s appt. for college physical - should be brief, DS is caught up on all immun. Also made the hotel reservations for orientation. Now to find something to do with the dogs…

Good luck to all still taking AP and IB exams.

A Reminder: DS let me know today that he is out of right-side contact lenses. (Not sure why - as he still has 3 lefts left.) I made him call this time to order new lenses, as I am trying to push the independence thing. Well, it seems he is due for an optometry appt, and cannot order new lenses until he gets his script renewed. So, in addition to the physical, vaccines, wisdom teeth removal – make sure your kid is up to date with his/her eye doctor.

cal---- We’re big Miyazaki fans here. Started with Totoro and we still watch eveything pretty regularly. Just watched Nausicaa last night, in fact. We had a nanny in Wisconsin, small town girl, who had two kids while she worked for us. Hilarious to see those two little boys become Miyazaki experts in a farming town where NO ONE knew about those movies. :D

familyof3boys— I totally remember filmstrips and reel to reel movies! But teachers couldn’t just throw on any ol’ two hour movie and call it “class”. Those films were those hilarious educational movies. And the droning of the projector would put me to sleep every time.

@jaylynn - in our family all you have to do is say “Totoro” and the boys get a soft-musy face and look like they want to cuddly!

So true! Watching a film was a big production, usually a reward for selling lots of all-occasion cards and wrapping paper in elementary school. I vividly remember watching Jodie Foster in “Candleshoe” in the auditorium.

While googling the title of that film I came across this about Jodie Foster:

OMG cal1983 and jaylynn: We are all huge Miyazaki fans. D likes Princess Mononoke best I like How’s Moving Castle best, DS loves My Neighbor Totoro which is strangely mesmerizing and so surprising in the humor. It’s funny it almost reminds me of a Japanese version of a Roz Chast cartoon panel. I love the remote battle scene.

Another one of DS’s favorite lines is “what a pretty fire” said in the witch of the waste voice. He also is partial to “crazy lady with tongs!” That’s about the point that I do chase and snap at him with the tongs.

OK funny phone call story . . .

call from D just a few minutes ago
In the school nurse’s office soaking feet in ice water
hot day
wore flip-flops
last parade on Thursday (Norwegian Independence Day! - um ya ya)
band goes down to practice marching and parade music on track
D is drum major and must goose step down lines to signal out songs
can’t do that in flip-flops
marches on track in bare feet
burn soles of feet
oops!

saintfan–only in the Pacific Northwest!

hsmom2dncrs: We, too, love “Crazy Bus” Don’t they see Crazy Bus live once?

momsings: any luck on tickets, or too busy with all that great paperwork?
