<p>We’re slipping, I had to go to the 2nd page to find the thread :)</p>
<p>D had doctor visit on Monday and had to get shots, she is incredibly needle-phobic so it is always an issue.</p>
<p>Today we went through the state ceremony where she got her license (apparently our state is the only one that does this). We heard from a policeman, a lawyer, watched a movie and then the Judge handed out licenses to packed courtroom of kids.</p>
<p>Tomorrow is the last soccer practice. I know I’ve been obsessing about this, but the end of this team is going to be really, really hard for me. Four of the girls I’ve coached in both basketball and soccer. Most of the rest of them, I’ve coached them for the last four years (fall, spring and a winter indoor season).</p>
<p>S05 got his meningitis shot just before college, D12 would have been 11. I remember thinking I’ll get hers when she goes off. D16 got flagged this year when she changed schools and hadn’t had it. Guess the school they transferred from wasn’t vigilant. I didn’t tell D16 she would need a second one. The drama princess is in the middle of HPV now so less talk is better (#3 injection comes next week…) They know her at the dr’s office and Walgreens where we get flu shots. Somehow she is not one bit embarrassed.</p>
<p>Re the clapping: very short-lived and not too disruptive this year. D’s HS is 52% minority and this is a huge deal for some families. I do like the college conference for swimming during the seniors’ last meet: each student is introduced and the crowd gives two claps, announcer moves on. Sometimes a hoot or holler, but rare. Respectful and fast.</p>
<p>Shots are a total non issue for my kids. No big deal. And even if it were, it would be vaccines all around, even if I had to hold them down myself…</p>
<p>I remember taking my oldest to the doctor for a strep test when he was 3. The nurse, coming at him with that giant Q-tip to swab his throat out with, said, “OK honey, this will just tickle a little bit…” He looked at me questioningly so I told him it didn’t tickle, it felt really awful, but it was super fast and didn’t do any damage and wouldn’t be any big deal. The nurse looked at me like I was crazy. Why would I lie and tell him it tickled? He was calm and let her do it.</p>
<p>Shots are no issue here, either. S gets allergy shots once a month. One icky test was a couple of weeks ago for S2–the whooping cough test. He did great though.</p>
<p>jmnva–it does sound like the last soccer practice is a huge deal. Such milestones, so wonderful and so bittersweet.</p>
<p>My D2012 is another one who is makes a big fuss about shots. D2015 doesn’t fuss at all – unless D2012 sets her off. I’ve learned to take them to the doctor separately if they’re due for shots.</p>
<p>Well, D is super excited b/c she bought her ticket to Wireless Festival 2012 - now, to hope we get the desired flights so she can make it there on time! Waiting on Tuesday to purchase airline tickets this close is stressing us both out - but others are involved and drug their heels this past Tuesday - cannot buy D’s ticket and just hope the other one gets the same plane - must be bought at the same time.</p>
<p>So, I just signed up for trial of Amazon Prime and the first thing I ordered charged me shipping even though I was logged in at Amazon Prime and the 1-click seemed to know me.</p>
<p>What the HECK is up with that - I only signed up for the free shipping feature and it didn’t even apply!</p>
<p>DS had second Menactra, we did the first one as soon as it came out because he participted in so amny summer camps that it made sense. SUch a busy few weeks, I will catch up and put pics up as soon as I have a few minutes to breath!</p>
<p>Maidenmom - we have Amazon Prime, too, and it saved D when she needed books ASAP for class. Does anyone know if they’re still extending membership discounts to college students?</p>
<p>It is the day before graduation and there is a lot to do but I’ll be popping in here throughout the day just to maintain my sanity. Last minute shopping and errands to pick up the flower leis, etc. I will certainly need a cocktail after today is through, but no, I have lilD’s band concert to attend.</p>
<p>About Amazon Prime - I’m confused by the posts that indicate that a parent has Amazon Prime, but still wants to know about discounts for college students. In our home, my H bought Amazon Prime originally, then shared the Prime shipping privilege with both me and D. We all have separate Amazon accounts, but we all get the free Prime shipping. I don’t see any reason to bother with the six months of free Prime for college students if a parent has Prime already.</p>
<p>On the shot issue–being shot phobic doesn’t mean she doesn’t get her vaccines, it just means it is challenge to get it done. Lots of tears but the shot still happens. For the
2nd round of the HPV, I almost had to carry her to the car.</p>
<p>Weatherga - I thought that Amazon Prime could be shared but wasn’t sure. D doesn’t stream videos so another account may not be necessary. She will definitely need it to order certain items.</p>
<p>I’ve also research Amazon Prime and I saw posts complaining about not getting the free shipping. Apparently, the free shipping only applies to purchases that are shipped from Amazon, as opposed to a third party supplier. I guess it makes sense to check out the source of your purchase before you hit the “one click”.</p>
<p>I also saw the 6 mos. free trial for students. I’ll probably get this for S closer to when we know what books he’ll need.</p>
<p>maidenMom - the two day free shipping for Amazon Prime applies only to products shipped by Amazon, not the independent sellers. Most things are eligible but not all. Like used textbooks from second hand sellers are often not prime eligible. It says “prime” in a little blue font (I think) if it’s good for free 2-day shipping.</p>
<p>jmnva06 - I didn’t think you were skipping vaccines! Sorry it’s so tough though. Hard to be a parent sometimes…</p>

warning to all wackaloons - I dropped a photo bomb this am from last night’s band concert (the last - boohoo!) but cleaned out some older photos to not clog up the page too much. I just needed to have demonstrated evidence that D really isn’t always a stick in the mud It was a fun evening. SteveC, I managed to get a shot of the aftermath of DS pulling the tiger’s tail. I need a better camera that takes a fast series.</p>
<p>jmnva: I feel you on the kids that one has coached over the years. It realy is bittersweet - soak it in! DH and I have coached just about everything for years - this is actually the first year that neither of us has coached. It is so neat to see those kids grow up and flourish. </p>
<p>on Amazon: My mom bought D the kindle yesterday - we decided on the 3G touch and will do Amazon Prime - my mom is the one who loves to research so she got it all scoped out. I will have it on D’s account as she will want the most shipping and streaming along with kindle content. We’ll set that up after she received the kindle.</p>
<p>On shot phobia: I have one of each. D, like me, is a watch the needle go in kid. DS is a flailer. And of course, the more you tense and move the more it hurts. He panics at all forceps, needles etc. I once sneeked into his room while he slept to remove stitches rather than take him back to ped. as he was so phobic.</p>
<p>Baccalaureate last night was a very nice, solemn service. DS didn’t bother to mention ahead of time that the top 10 would be receiving medals at the end of the service - had to whip out the camera when they called his name. (He’s no. 3 - so no worries about speeches, but they didn’t give the Sal and Val much time - S said they found out at practice on Tues afternoon!)</p>
<p>Jealous of all who are able to order books ahead of time at big savings. DS won’t even know his dorm or roommate until mid July - and won’t know about his classes until he arrives on campus for Frosh Orientation in August. Guess that’s one way of assuring that students buy the books from the college book store.</p>
<p>MizzBee: I don’t think the Amazon Student has the free streaming. I need to ask S if this is something he’d use. Currently he watches TV on internet sites, so I don’t know if the streaming is something he’d use.</p>
<p>PinotNoir–The nice thing about my D is that as tough as it was to get her there, she is great about it afterward. She can almost joke about the NHPV incident.</p>
<p>Saintfan-- the growth in the kids is one of the great parts. We’ve also raised the next generation of coaches. 3 of our current players (including my D) are actually coaching their own teams this season.</p>
<p>On Amazon Prime-- we are all just using one account as of right now.</p>
