Started declining schools here. Specifically this with named scholarships that may go
To another candidate. Hard to press that button!!

Haystack - it was especially hard to say goodbye to Iowa State. They really were so nice to D and the FA was outstanding (housing costs were cheap, too!). Plus, it would have been nice to have family nearby.

I’ll be on the deck drinking until may 1st apparently. D has a favorite, but it’s the worst financially. FA is in from all three and she has visited the two big ones already. Her last visit is next monday & Tuesday. Wednesday is D day.

Screw the wine. I just opened a bottle of vodka as I finish the cake for their math banquet tonight. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right???

Best of luck to your daughter. She certainly has fantastic options on the table!!! Son is pretty excited about Iowa State, now if I can just get him to do the chemsitry and math placement exams.

pouncecat2: thank you, it’s between M and C. you are right about $12k, non-negotiable, well, after haggled 2 rounds of appealing process, we got $1000 more. Actually finaid officer contacted us long before the decision day to verify back and forth more of my tax return forms in details than IRS, DD said they must be ex-IRS employees. So we got hint about M, but they never admitted this had anything to do with admission process. We don’t want to put any financial pressure on DD in the decision making.

carimama: DD went both C and M twice within a year, she also called our chemistry professor friends for professional opinions, she still tell us: “I think of C yesterday, and think of M today”, she just drives us crazy. She wants to major chemistry or chemical engineering, both colleges are excellent for in these fields, then she said she might want to do PH.D afterwards…

EastGrad: we may eventually meet- in real life:) whoa, I am excited:) or scared:( good idea to have Boston parents group for now?

I JUST PUT DOWN MY DEPOSIT FOR UCONN!!! I’M SO EXCITEDDDDDDDD!!! AHHHHH!

All of this has brought me to this point, and I’m happy. Thank you to all of you on here for the help and support over the past year! I really, truly appreciate it!

So … For those of you who know where your students are attending… Are there any of you who have already started worrying about the next phase??? I was overly stressed since apps went out in the fall and even after acceptances were received, then the agonizing over the “fit” and financials! Now I am worried about logistics, housing, orientation and starting college in the fall. When will my worry treadmill end? I just want to relax and enjoy May-August! Can anyone else relate? :)

I’m only stressing about the actual move-in. Ds has the opportunity to do a weeklong orientation program but won’t know about it for a while. I want to book flights and hotels. If he does the orientation program do we move him in a week early? Or does he just pack a bag for a week and then I show up with all the other freshman parents? If we move him in a week early then I have to miss the parent programming? I wish I had these answers.

Youdon’tsay- me too! D ended up at college that was not on her short list, until they suddenly offered more money, so we are exploring everything in a short turnaround and it just seems daunting. I keep thinking we will miss deadlines and her orientation is June 1-2! Then a later week long adventure orientation in August, just before she moves in. Meal plans, roommates, scheduling, housing contracts… and even now ALL of the emails from college go directly to my 17 year old thru their email server. At least they emailed the parents to let me know how they will communicate at this point! We are excited and anxious and what seemed a long way off, is finally here!

Wow. I am really, really, really slow tonight! I couldn’t figure out where everyone’s post was going when they added their username to the list. Thank you Tougis for explaining that it’s alphabetical!!! I just added my name to the top of the list. ooooops. I am however still drinking for DS13a, so maybe that has something to do with it! He leaves tomorrow for his last admitted student event.

On another note, he has one very strange situation. There is one school where he didn’t apply but he was accepted. He had sent in the initial common app, but never did the supplement or sent in the application fee. He can’t figure out how to decline that school. I feel really bad because I’m sure there are students on a waitlist that would like that spot, but he feels like if they are that dumb to admit him when he didn’t even apply, then he doesn’t need to bother wasting gray matter to figure it out. What do you all think?

Wow, your kids are just THAT talented. I’d call them, even though it’s a pain in the neck, just to help them make sure their spreadsheet of admitteds foots properly and they know how many slots to open up for their waitlist. It’s five minutes of your kid’s time for a bit of better karma in the world (and hopefully a happy family somewhere else).
