Depending on the age of the younger sibling, my son enjoyed going to visit his big sister on his own - once during soph year in HS and once during junior year. He stayed in her dorm room (very understanding roommate) and did “college” stuff with her. Gave him a great taste of college and dorm life. He did not go with me to take her to college freshman year. I think he would have been bored and she enjoyed the time just with me and grandma! We never attended Parents Weekend, so I can’t speak to that.

Oh, and speaking of move-in. Because our schedule is so crazy with an overseas move, older sis may be the one to help S2 move in to college this fall! She’s actually kind of jazzed about the prospect! I’m driving her car to DC in 2 weeks filled with all of his college stuff and she’s going to store it for the summer. So in August, he just flies to DC (from wherever we happend to be) and they head up to Princeton together. Sibling bonding at its best!

Good morning! Happy Monday!! Thanks for the Cuban coffee! I have always wanted to try that!

Move-in: For D1’s first move-in, S3 was 12 and not in school yet, and it was handy to have him because he was able to help lug everything and he set up all of her electronics. Future move-ins we did without him, but we definitely missed him. Was if fun for him? Probably not.

Confetti! Didn’t know you enjoyed cafe cubano also! Nice to know. :)

D is off at her last visit today. I’m hoping she falls more in love with this school than MIT … The way thry count her outside scholarships make the numbers outstanding I we really can’t beat it anywhere. We’ll see.

I have a feeling her love affair with MIT is clouding her judgement as she looooved this school even through Caltech’s acceptance … But when MIT was a “yes”, she’s been in lust with it ever since … We’ll see.

I’ll likely be the last to post a decision since she’ll be deciding Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. /sigh/

I need to get off this lounge chair. I’m going to have premature circulation issues pretty soon. LOL!!

Quietly lurking for months, I jump in with my D’s decision (reached yesterday):

Finally!!! We have a decision! After struggling between NU and USC for the whole month, we are thrilled DS will be a USC Trojan! This is not where I thought we were going to end up, but between the lovely campus, the impressive professors and students, the diversity, the out-of classroom learning opportunities, the focus on the arts, and in particular, theatre and cinema, the benefits of being in LA, the beach within reach and a generous merit scholarship, it just became so obvious that USC was the right choice. It was hard to let go of Northwestern because DS was smitten and wanted to trudge through snow, and explore Chicago, a city he fell in love with.

I guess I am serving drinks now for the remaining few days :)

I read these last minute decision posts, and I feel I am in good company. My daughter struggled and struggled last week. Very tough to let go of Tulane, where her visit was just a fairy tale of friendly administrators and engaging students, and a great city to boot.

Thanks to everyone on the boat for their insights about this process. Lots of kids have done lots of growing up in these last few months. As predicted, interests change over senior year, so sometimes there is a last minute surprise. Thanks for the twelve days, confetti, and SOG for the trip down musical memory lane.

I am afraid I’ll be lounging even when May 1st rolls around…she is really wanting the WL to become an “acceptance”…and that most likely won’t happen, but if it does…it could be mid May to Late June! I hope you all don’t jump ship, so when I do put it on the list, someone will be reading it!!

Sigh…we are right there with you ‘undecided’ guys. We have been out of town-the admitted students weekend at Stanford was great but S’13 is still struggling between Stanford and Yale. (He has, however decided the tech school vibe isn’t for him, at least for undergrad, and has cut MIT loose).

I think we will have a decision today, but then again, he said that yesterday and we are running out of tomorrows! He is a very cautious kid and after years of telling him to keep his options open, I guess it is hard for him to let them go. He also tends to over think things (like his mom). The paralysis of analysis!

Don’t worry drmom- we will be there when you get the good news!

S2 is out of town (at the beach with his choir) and he asked me to check his email. Well, I just opened it and had to laugh out loud. He has been asked by his elementary school to be the speaker at the 6th grade graduation! They pick a senior boy and a senior girl every year - I still remember the impressive young man that spoke at his graduation. I hope he says yes. I think he will get a kick out of seeing all the “little kids” and remembering all the fun times he had in elementary school. Sigh, I am getting all misty just thinking about it.

Okay, your evening tune is a gigantic piece of fairly aromatic Eighties cheese, and I am not in the least bit proud it popped into my head, but it seemed appropriate, and you’re getting it anyway.

Descartesz, I remember you from the Macalester threads. Congrats. Haverford is one of my very favorite schools…and maybe because our tour guide with my first kid was the most impressive person we encountered in 40+ visits over 4 years.

My D accepted at Grinnell on Friday, and emailed her GC to tell him the news. She was delighted when he responded over the weekend, telling her that it was exactly the school he would have picked for her. I’m very proud of how she handled the whole process, including some big disappointments.

After the thread about George Washington, I’m not sure what kind of comments I’ll get but with a merit scholarship and great FA, it is actually cheaper than our state flagship which only gave her a very small amount of FA (with the balance in loans–no thanks). She loves the urban campus and is looking forward to spending time on the other side of the country and can’t wait to get some internships in DC.
