Okay, this question seems silly following the thoughtful message above, but: how are Lands End dorm sheets? They are having a 40% off sale (code: bright ; pin 4520) and since I feel like I’m building my son’s trousseau, I thought it might be worth ordering. Any experience?

What an impressive list above. Must add when I’m not hampered by fat fingers on the smartphone.

Did it, chubby digits notwithstanding…

Mom of NEA: I have long loved Land’s End and will look at this sale. I think I bought DS13’s first “big kid bed” sheets from there, with space/astronaut design and a fitted lower two corners for the top sheet and comforter, which enabled easy bed making–brilliant! I sort of like the idea of buying his college sheets there too.

Many congratulations to all those posting decisions–what a dizzying array! I am sorry that I am no Confetti and can’t send individual good wishes, but I am so happy every time I read a “decision post.”

Sacchi, thanks for posting the link about the CC article. Was it Greek who came up with HMFR? You’re famous, anonymously…! And I have to say I chuckled over the image of the researchers reading through our list. Unless they read pretty much every page, imagine what they thought of the references to the cruise ship and drinks…etc. :)

Also, sheet buyers: remember that many college beds are EXTRA-LONG twin size, like those often found in bunk bed sets. It’s really hard to wrestle a regular twin sheet on an extra-long bed.

We have some of those sheets with the fitted corner on the top sheet, I forgot they were from Land’s End. They have held up well over the years. Have you checked whether they come in the XL long?

I have a 30% off of Kohl’s which is good until Saturday. D says to wait. I CAN’T WAIT.

I went back to the early pages of this thread, just to see who was posting that is still posting. Longhaul, are you out there? She was posting at the very beginning. Good luck and keep us informed.

My son will be going to Amherst College next fall. Anyone else here going to Amherst? I don’t see any on that list above. He is very excited to start there!

Congrats jennieling, what a great school that is. My D went to high school with one of their basketball stars and they won the DIII National Championship! Smart, smart kids and great DIII athletics…great place.

Jen, I did my MS thesis at Amherst with Bob May. I loved the area. congrats

Welcome, jennieling, so happy Amherst worked for your DS. Longhaul posted about a week ago that her/his child hadn’t decided and was going down to the wire. I remember because I thought Longhaul’s name had sealed that deal! What’s the news, Longhaul?

Mom2Kids2Dogs, haven’t seen those sheets or the comforters with the fitted bottom corners for a while. :(

So glad to see so many new “faces”. Welcome!

Jennieling: Re: Amherst … My daughter’s BFF is there! She is a freshman and LOVES it. She said it’s full of people who are passionate about what they are interested in. In fact, her boyfriend just pushed the button today and will also be attending this fall!!

FYI: It was MDMom1314 who coined the term HMFR.
I don’t have time to look back to see when it was right now. LOL!

And my D has made her decision. We’ve spent the last hour declining the other schools who offered amazing aid packages and merit scholarships. Turning down these full rides is giving me anxiety. No lie. It’s like a very sad breakup with a partner who hasn’t done a thing wrong to you. I feel ill.

Oh the other hand, my daughter had a very hard time deciding, but in the end chose MIT!

I’m very proud of her thought process in the matter, even though this means she will have to take out student loans (which I’m not a fan of). She really considered everything from program, fit, cost, long-term prospects in her chosen field, and major, and knew that, in the end, she felt her heart was guiding her to MIT and that someone else would appreciate her spot at the last school she declined, Olin. She’s actually recommending it to some of the underclassmen she KNOWS will be an outstanding fit for Olin based on their personal learning style and career interests.

I’m drinking one last mojito and will be ready to help restock the bar for the next phase. :)

Woo hoo!!! I still can’t believe my baby is going to MIT.

Oh man. Here it is … finalized. Adding my D’s comMITment to MIT. :)

confetti: I understand the Stanford band is ‘banned’ at Notre Dame, so there is another one…then again, I understand the Stanford band tends to ruffle feathers wherever it goes.

thanks tx5 and critter. USC So… wherenext and esteemom! And Stanford (since S13 will be a band kid)… GreekMana and critter! Awesome - anyone for a very competitive game of roller-skate limbo?

congrats, nerdyDad, jennieling, carimama and MomofNEA! Two new MITs!

LOL EastGrad, not to mention puffing around Christmastime! :D

Quote from S13’s confirmation letter (received today), which I think applies to everyone here: “For now, though, take a moment to enjoy the beginning of a new chapter in your life. You have four wonderful years awaiting you…Congratulations.”

carimama: Congratulations on MIT!! Guess you might have to pinch yourself?! I feel like I could have written most of your post, but we did the ‘breakups’ yesterday and we were down to Yale and Stanford. MIT was #3, believe it or not. Glad I did not make the East coast trips or I would probably be beyond anxiety at this point! Today S’13 sent extra emails to admissions officers he had had an especially good relationship with and folks he interviewed with for those huge scholarships. Then they came back with such nice responses like"let us know if there is anything else we can do for you" and he felt bad all over again. But overall, he is moving on and enjoying a little bit of well earned fuss from the school and community. (Now it is time for the parents to let go, right?)

Congrats on the rest of the decisions!

This thread always makes me happy but today was especially great. Congratulations to all and special thanks to the lovely crew on this voyage!

Greek, hope things are better with your MIL.

Just got off the phone with my sister who called me very excited about some of the local scholarships my niece won this week. We’re on the phone talking when my niece walks in and my sister reminds her that she needs to write thank you notes. Then comes the refrain of the year: “Thank you notes again!! THIS IS NEVER GOING TO END. I’m never going to just be able to enjoy life.” At which point, after a lively exchanged that included phases like “ungrateful kid,” “we raised you better,” and “I’ll write the notes but you need to stop stalking me,” my sister hung up to take a long teen-free walk. Kids!

carimama- The “break up” ill is right! Even after almost a week, when someone asked if D chose the other school, I got a pang at hearing the name, kind of like someone saying an ex’s name back in the day. D is over it and content.

confetti- it might be hard to play limbo while Esteem and I are “Saluting to Troy” with our V for victory every two seconds while Critter and Greek are doing the awkward dance with the band. Besides we don’t have a chance with the luck of the Irish

Ha Ha with puffing…I miss that, even if we did abuse the system Hence, It is gone.

I have also liked the recipes and shopping advice. MommaNEA-ordered sheets thanks to you!

Congrats all 13ers 'rents and their kids. Plus a Shout out to you swizzle (author of 'rents) and to Unicaramel- hope all is good with you!

kelbee- great about niece’s scholarship…giggled about the long walk story, while this group is throwing back any libation offered! Why didn’t we offer nice long walks on the Lido deck :)

Speaking of which…where did unicameral decide to go?
