Parents of the HS Class of 2013

That’s a great question, GM. Unicameral!! UNICAMERAL!!!

…

Man overboard???

I was thinking the same thing!
I’m getting off the lounge chair to just stretch. I think DD is beginning to embrace the “deposited” school…she said last night “I’m not getting off that waitlist mom”… which again, is heading in the right direction…

We still have almost two months of school left!

kelbee - I think the kids just want to bring us back into reality once in awhile, since they’re so awesome so much of the time ;)

We have one month minus one day - senior last day is May 31. Gasp.

drmom - hang in there. I hear there’s long kid-free walks on the lido deck today.

So I’m driving the tuitionmobile (usually S13’s car) today and his mix CD is in… “Brown-Eyed Girl / In One Ear (Cage the Elephant) / Have You Ever Seen the Rain” :D

I get a little tear in my eye some afternoons when son comes home from school, car windows open…music LOUD and thumping…and I hear songs from the Clash and London Calling playing.

I must have done something right.

I feel the same way about music and my kids. Simple Minds, Don’t you forget About Me Came on last night. I told S that I think we missed the beginning. My son got his phone and replayed it for me off his “favorites” list. That boy needs to see Breakfast Club!

If I recall correctly, Uni decided on MIT.

Wherenext & Haystack… love the music references. That gets me emotional too. A nice memory - last weekend after the fateful USC visit I took DS to stroll Santa Monica beach. While stopping at a bench next to the bike path, DS broke out into David Bowie’s “Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes…”, and at the same time a beautiful beach girl on a bike heard him and sang back “turn and face the strain…Changes!” It was PERFECT!

SOG - have you posted a link to that song yet??

So Wherenext, I think you & I will be cheering for both sides at the big USC v UCLA/CAL games - what choice do we have ;)

drmom… I expect you DD’s excitement for the “deposited” school will build as it gets closer. Has she connected with other committed students on FB? I think that will help once she makes connections and sees how awesome her future friends are!

And now you understand why S15 wants to visit only California schools on the Great Spring Break College Tour next year.

[David Bowie - Changes (Live) - YouTube](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMQ0Ryy01yE)

BTW, if you haven’t heard the new Bowie album yet, it’s pretty good. I’m convinced he watches Lady Gaga go through her moves and just ticks off “July 1975,” “September 1978,” “May 1983,” etc.

Good luck to all the IB kids! English HL paper one today!

Checking in late today. Work is crazy busy.

DS had a outside scholarship interview last night at 9pm! He thinks it went well. Today is league semi-finals for tennis. DS is the #1 seed, but the only team they have struggled with is the #4 team so they will face them in the semis rather than finals. I am nervous. DH and my mom are going to the game. I am working so will have to miss it, but I am bad luck anyway so maybe it is just as well. Hopefully I can make it to the finals (they will play for 3rd place if they don’t win the first match). Traditionally this tournament is not kind to our family so I am hoping for a positive change.

I’m back! I got tossed overboard when CC started having all those technical glitches. I kept getting the malware message. One frightening evening ,I got through after CC gave the all clear. I logged on and the screen went white. I got some crazy hacker-like message that my computer was being blocked by the FBI (not making this up) and if I paid a certain amount it would be unblocked.Thank God DH is an IT guy and all is well.
I found out how addicted I am to reading CC, as I had some serious withdrawal issues.
DDs school did the Senior College shirt day too. They took a cute picture together as well.

Congrats to all the kidos who committed and their stressed out parents!

Kelowna My DD took the first part of the IB English this AM.

I’ve been working on a video for DD with all her pictures. She was born in 96 and we didn’t get a digital camera until 2003 or so. I’ve been scanning crap loads of pics. Looking at her baby pictures blows my mind. I can’t believe this day is here

I’m ready for the next phase. This being my first to go off, I’m interested in any advice on what to take, what not to take driving vs flying etc.

Who’s got the karaoke machine to set up on deck? I’m ready to belt out a few songs. My first song will be “I Will Survive”…not because of the lyrics, though. It’s just a blast to sing.

@TVnee - D had the job when she was pretty young to scan all of our photos. H gave her several cents per pic toward a new bike to do it. So, we’ve had the photos in the computer for a while.

Re: driving vs. flying - We are making a family trip of D’s trip to college. We’ll have a pretty hefty road trip, but we’ll also get to visit with family (they live fairly close to D’s school). Our plan is to just take up the things she can’t purchase at a nearby store and then spend some time doing some shopping with her for the rest of her needs.

I’m thrilled to report that after a 3-month job hunt, D has finally found a job. It was definitely worth waiting for since she is doing independent contract work editing for a videographer. She’s pretty good at editing, but he is training her in his method. She’s worked with him 3 days so far and has learned a ton of stuff. He said she’s learning very quickly and will be able to work from home in a week or so.

D got news of a scholarship this past week. We have to wait to find out the exact amount, but we know the basic range. It will definitely help fill the gap.

tx5, good luck to ds!!! And on the scholarship. And to the IB kids.

Pics from ds’s college T-shirt day was nice. The school doesn’t do anything official, but the kids got together in various groupings and got some shots. I wish there had been one of everyone. The list of schools looks like the one on this thread – East Coast, West Coast and all points in between.

I checked back, and this was Unicameral’s last post here (on 4/22).

Kind of worries me…

Congratulations to all the new decisions! Been away a couple days (swamped at work) and now trying to catch up. Our list is simply awesome.

D leaves 7am tomorrow morning to travel downstate for the State Science Fair Finals - will be gone all weekend and then has AP testing on Monday and Tuesday. Lousy timing all the way around - and I can tell she is a wee bit stressed. Also, D interviewed for the Science Fair scholarship a couple days ago - and I have my fingers crossed that she will win one. Best of luck to everyone taking APs.

On another note, my S will arrive back home on Saturday after studying abroad this semester. Skype is wonderful - but I can’t wait to see him in the flesh. He will be home a couple weeks before leaving for NYC where he has two part-time internships lined up - doing development/production work for a major TV network, and helping with the production of a new movie for a production company. We found affordable housing in Midtown so he will be able to walk to work if he wants. Remember, he is a business (accounting) major…but added film (production) as a second major in the middle of sophomore year. Talk about a change of heart…

On the to do list for D before leaving for college (she leaves on June 10th) is an eye exam and new contacts, frames. Also, new laptop since my D has been using my S’s old hand-me-down for the past couple years. Need to decide between MacBook or PC. I am a planner - so I have a running list of stuff like this to keep from waiting until the last minute for everything.

More to come later on the topic of college move-in, etc. - need to run to a meeting…

My D announced last night that she is applying for a job at our local movie palace/multi-plex. Asked for help with her resume and cover letter. Apparently, she has decided it would be nice to have some spending money. No such noises from my S, however.

S2 just got rejected as a potential roommate from someone he never even requested. S2 has never even logged into the housing website. He got an email saying, “CDr has declined your request to be a roommate.” I think the website has a glitch!! And we all had a good laugh!

Megmom, FWIW, my d1 says she won’t live with him either. ;>}

At least he can’t take it personally. :D
