Congrats on the League Championship!!! :)

My S and partner are also league champs and played today in the huge Districts but alas, lost there. Oh well, they played against schools 4 x their size. Hard to believe the tennis career is over for him, unless he wants to walk-on next year.

Prom tomorrow for DD - bought a bunch of annuals to put in pots to distract the parents taking photos from all the weeds in my garden beds. Now i just have to get finger foods in that 6 girls can eat while doing hair and make up that won’t be too messy, but will give them enough sustenance for the night. DS is not going, but will probably attend the post-prom event which everyone says is more fun than prom.

This time last year I was pretty sure of the route/schools DS would look at, but I was unsure whether he was emotionally ready to handle college. The past year has been a great one and he has grown so much, I wish I could convey that to other parents who are worried about kids. I have had to let go of the reins a bit, which was hard, but very necessary.

Congrats to the tennis champs out there. Well done. I have to walk away from the court all the time. His team placed in their district tournament, but lost to a juggernaut in the regionals. C’est la vie.

…and the blessings continue to flow…Congratulations to everyone here!!

Happy Prom to all!! …DS opted out :(

Congrats, tx5! We need SOG to strike up “We Are the Champions”!

Ds’s college has been his dream for as long as we can remember so a year ago I didn’t dare hope that he’d actually get in. The process has been easier in some respects with him than it was with ds1, more difficult in others.

Tonight is the sports banquet. I don’t think I’ll get weepy like I did at ds1’s sports banquet. For ds1, I put together the video montage and cried nonstop during production, it seemed.

The best thing I did in this process was to run the NPC’s on a broad range of schools to get a general sense of the finances for certain types of schools. I did this during his Jr year of HS and summer before Sr year. This made it clear to us what types of schools we could likely afford and made the application process totally uneventful for us.

As a result, he only ended up applying to one school that I knew would not be affordable but his Mom wanted him to apply anyway just in case we won the lottery or something.

For us, the college process was much easier than D1. D1’s program had a 7% acceptance rate…D13 had a very good reasonable list with mostly matches and safeties and she liked most of the schools on her list. I was surprised by her final choice, I though that she would have gone with the more prestigious programs however it is a perfect fit for her. I am confident that she will thrive there and she is definitely ready for it.

Prom tonight. The prom has had more drama than the college process. I reminded her and her friends that it was just a 4 hour dinner dance, not a wedding or even a major life event. That seemed to put everything in perspective.

Congrats tennis families! We are the Champions is right! D is in this group as well, but finished in Fall of course. Hummm…interesting that this sport and CC/track are well represented here. :)

tx5-Glad UCLA validated DS!

Yep Esteem, I will leave my keys in my purse during Salute to Troy.
Wonder if our kids will become gung ho? I doubt it but I do know someone who named their child Troy, their pets after famous USC athletes, has a cardinal and gold golf cart (horn plays salute to troy) and only has red cars. Not sure I could handle that :)

Junior year was a grind! Thanks to you guys, she did her resume early, asked for LOC at the end of May to be first in line in the fall. These little things helped take a lot of stress out of the application process. The resume was great to work off for her apps and her LOC’s were done early. I am so grateful for all the tips. D was pleasantly surprised at her success with this process as a result. Many Many thanks to CCers!

Congrats to the CHAMPIONS! Where is SomeOldGuy?? * Banging table top - shouting WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!*

Kelowna- Will do and looking forward to any advice. Won’t know where she’ll be housed until August possibly.

Stress level at defcon (whatever really high is) because guess what…still no answer on the gap year deferral from UC you-know-who. Sooo…must decide whether to bail on super awesome scholarship to Germany for next year and make the housing deposit or what re-apply this fall? Just shoot me.

I hear you, but this pesky job thing distracted me. Sounds like we are halfway staffed for the first annual CC Davis Cup.

[Queen - We Are The Champions - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Please correct me if I’m wrong… if she goes to Germany without an approved deferment then her chances when she re-applies in the fall are pretty much nil after bailing on an acceptance, right?

Thanks SOG!! Ha! “…no pleasure cruise” is right!

I’m seasick again.

Why? She was interesting enough to get in this year, and the German experience will only make her app more interesting. You just need to talk to a live body in whatever office processes deferrals. Since it is after deposit day, they should have more time to talk now.

@pouncecat2 - I was also going to suggest visiting in person…

She’s left a message and sent an email to the person in charge of the decision. She spoke to a live person who said to wait for the other person. She’ll call again today…I’ll be crossing fingers. Maybe an in person will be necessary … I don’t fancy travelling so far without an appointment though. :/

Also she’d miss more school…during APs. Eeee.

Do you not think they will take offense that she took the year in Germany over their admission and hold it against her?

@pouncecat2 - I am a little lost here…my understanding is that UC system offers deferrals, right? I understand that it is on a case by case basis, but I see why not grant her one in face of a scholarship opportunity.
Do not even think about applying next year! Just pursue this deferral…or am I missing something here ???

Kelowna - You’ve got it right. They do have a deferral system. It does require an application, fee, and then an approval. I have no idea what happens in the event of non-approval or even silence. I just think she would have to reapply if she doesn’t go this year and for whatever reason did not receive an approval. Of course deferral will be much simpler … just wish they would confirm it, or that we knew what to do if they don’t.

I sure don’t want her to give up the German scholarship…but DH is insisting that she not risk the UC opportunity so he’s telling her to consider declining Germany. I say go to Germany even if that means loosing the UC… This is a HUGE dilemma.

I hope SOG is right that she’ll only be more interesting next year…but who really knows? Well, there’s a lady in No CA that knows…sure wish she’d clue us in.

Haystack, I just realized you are a MAN. Shocking. I guess I have pretty clear gender identity for all of you set in my mind.

Pouncecat, I think you need an answer to the question right away. I would be the Pleasant Squeaky Wheel, calling every few hours.

DS also taking IB HL English Paper 2 this afternoon. Good luck to all test takers. Next Monday: AP Chem, AP Enviro, IB Physics, IB Enviro, AP Psych, IB Psych. Thank heavens DS not taking any of those.

DS found the college application process less painful than junior year.

A question: DS’s prom is also tomorrow night. His date who is a close friend not a romantic interest says she doesn’t want flowers. DS was planning to get her a wrist corsage. Do you think she means this, or should he go ahead anyway? No allergies or anything like that, our suspicion is that she doesn’t want him to spend the money. But maybe she genuinely hates flowers… ??
