Thanks jrmama496 for the reply. Hopefully somebody on this thread knows the answer to this. I asked this from my D’s counselor and she said, she’s not sure if we can see it on our side, but she can tell it on her side when LOR’s are submitted/completed by the teacher.

D14’s school does not use Naviance. On her CA profile, we can see that the counselor and one teacher have submitted their recommendations, with date. And the other teacher is marked as “Started” (which I think means has logged in and entered some basic info, but no LOR yet).

2018dad,
D’s school has Naviance but not using it for the CA. It does show on our side the names and dates submitted for LORs and school reports.

Ok, I started the spreadsheet today. It’s strange to me that he only has 4 schools he is definitely applying to at the moment, although there are 3 more he is visiting and will decide after the visits. My D was the opposite- she had so many I had to force her to pare them down to ten because I was spending a mint in application fees.

This spreadsheet is to keep ME organized, not so much him. I also sent ACT scores for the three with November deadlines (EA schools). Fields include: College, AppFee, AppFee pd?, ACT requirements? (all, highest, etc.) ACT sent? , SAT II requirements? SAT II sent? Financial Aid deadline, FA forms required, AP credits (policies for those he has taken so far). I’ll probably add FA sent/completed columns, IDOC columns, etc. as those requirements come closer.

It turns out, he has one school that requires SAT II’s and one that recommends them but doesn’t require them. They are two of the schools he isn’t sure about until he visits. That whole thing may have been a waste in the long run. We’ll see.

He was not crowned Homecoming King but he had a great time and it was fun to escort him onto the field, etc. We had a good time tonight Dance tomorrow! Then Sunday he can get caught up on homework.

^^^I was just thinking…I need to start a spreadsheet! !

I finally got the job offer in writing at 6:30pm on Friday…I was beginning to feel it was never going to happen but I got everything I asked for! very happy! I have been out of work for 7 months and I hope I remember how to work…lol

Lots to do…first things first…time to go shopping!

Congratulations, onlyonemom!! Have fun shopping! :)

2016BarnardMom - so glad it turned out to be a fun night for you and your son. Congratulations to him on being chosen for Homecoming Court! Your spreadsheet sounds great - wish I had your template!

BarnardMom - my spreadsheet also has fields for transcripts (requested/received) and letters of recommendations (number required or allowed/requested/received and thank you note sent). I got the basic spreadsheet from somewhere online and have been tweaking in lately. Just figured out that if the date box is highlighted in dark pink it means it is within 2 weeks. And some of those are showing up now!

Last week was conferences and I was also able to meet with D’s GC. I feel so very lucky that D is her only student! (She’s the head of guidance/admissions so she’s been dealing with admissions for the most part but was D’s GC for the first two years and who she went to last year whenever she had a question, so she doesn’t really know her “official” GC and she doesn’t really know her.) So GC wasn’t concerned about whether D turned in the paper requesting transcripts as she could see online the schools. D had a question because the transcript form had a spot for “application submitted” and she wasn’t going to be able to submit her applications before the form was required to be at the school.

I did manage to get her read on whether to send D’s tests to the test optional schools (no) and whether D should interview at a particular school (yes) but forgot to ask the question of how to answer that “what other schools are you applying to?” question! Guess the answer to that will have to wait until next week.

Off to the homecoming game this afternoon! It’s senior day so they’ll be recognizing the band members along with the football players and cheerleaders which is really nice. D has played in the pep band all four years and it’s nice that they are being recognized - I don’t remember it happening before this year though.

akmom - can you remember where you found your spreadsheet? I like the pink deadline warning, not sure I’m up to programming that in myself! :)

I was doing so well last year about this time … had a spreadsheet with all sorts of info on it. I feel overwhelmed now! I think he’s narrowed it down to about 7-8. Most have already been sent ACT scores through the freebies when he has taken them. He has taken it three times and the score was within one point in all three sittings, so even the first take was a good score. And he’s decided he wants to take it one more time so he’ll have another 4 freebies. I need to go back and look to see if any of the schools require ALL sittings.

DS has an interview Friday - his first. The confirmation email said family is welcome. I’d love to go, but afraid when I am there DS does not speak at all and then I jump in to break the awkward silence. Trying to decide…maybe I’ll go and just bring duct tape for my mouth! haha And he also has to call to schedule another interview.

He received his packet for announcements and class ring a few days ago. WOW! This is starting to get real! I’ve called a photographer for senior pictures, but we’ve not set a date yet.

4beardolls - congrats on the Presidential Scholar! Was your DS nominated for Academics or Arts? I remember following the 2013 thread last year and there was a boy nominated for the Arts and went somewhere to audition.
Does anyone know more about this program? For the academic portion, the top 20 male and female testers for each state are chosen. [Presidential Scholars Program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Presidential Scholars Program - Wikipedia) At what date are the test scores compared for nominees? I assume that has already been done since 4beardolls has received word that their DS has been chosen (if he is in the Academic portion). I know last year, in order to make that top 20 the student had to have a 35 on the ACT for boys, 34 for girls in our state. Just wondering if the October ACT that DS is taking might be considered, because he wouldn’t make it on his current scores. :)

I did so many spreadsheets for D’11 – they are good to keep us organized, but this time I have everything scribbled on one sheet of paper, in my bag. If I ever get mugged, I will fight like I’m on steroids to keep that scrap of paper. Impressive, right? :)

beadymom, DS was only nominated by his school to the state education board. And it was for the academics. The next step is for each State to nominate a certain number of students from the pool of school nominees. I believe only after the State educational board selection, one can become the semi-finalist. So DS still has a long way to go. Regarding your question about the ACT date, I really don’t know what date of test they used but DS got 36 on his ACT back in April.

DS moving into new territory this morning with his first official alumni interview at a coffee shop. He’s had 2 on-campus interviews with admissions personnel, so hopefully today, as well as for a second alum interview after school next week, he will feel relaxed and maybe even be able to “enjoy the ride” a bit. Took off wearing jeans and a nice shirt after his interviewer called this morning to ask if he’d be able to move up the time of their meeting and emphasized not to get dressed up…he liked that a lot! Next one is at the alums office…so no jeans for that one.

Ugly, rainy day in Virginia. But, it did not stop Son '14 from joining some teammates and coaches, along with lots of friends from other schools, to run a benefit 5K this morning. He won it, with one of his best buddies finishing second and his teammates taking third. Everyone had a great time – despite the rain. After getting cleaned up and taking a nap, he and his dad will head to an ice hockey game for the night. Of course, being the voice of reasons, I did remind Son '14 that he has some essays to do for apps later this weekend. Fortunately, he did not argue.

Best of luck to DS of Vandyeyes on the interview!

Congratulations to DS of momreads on ANOTHER 1st place!

I am envious of all of the parents with spreadsheets - we still use one folder per school. Getting our money’s worth out of that dining room table, though! ;)

I’m so jealous to everybody. We don’t even have a final list and we’re still going back and forth on what school she’s applying early.

We’re from California, so we know that she’ll at least apply to 4 or 5 UCs but aside from the UCs, no final list yet.

Just yesterday, my D surprised me (in front of her counselor) that she’s considering Computer Science/Engineering as her major. I’m an Engineer myself, so I have mixed feeling about it. But now if she’s really serious about it, then we need to re-consider her list of schools. She has changed her prospective major from pre-Med to Architecture to Marine Biology to pre-Veterinary to Marketing to Business to Economics. And now to Computer Sc/Engg. I’m sure it will change again once she’s in college.

2018Dad, my DS hasn’t changed his prospective major (physics/math) and is not interested in Engineering. However, he is looking at schools where he could migrate to something else if he changes his interest. I would not keel over if he decided that Economics floats his boat; he’s skilled at CS but is leery of it because it’s been his parents’ field; who knows what will interest him by the time he has spent a semester at college. Options are valuable.

beadymon - it came from a website diycollegerankings. There is one you can purchase with all the data in it or there is a free one you can download by signing up for updates. I just got the free one and changed it somewhat and then added my own data. I would have NO idea how to program it - it took me a really long time to figure out why it looked the way it did! I just thought it was the cells I hadn’t updated yet! Until there were different looking cells in one field (submitting stuff to the High School) and I had no idea why! Now I’m thinking it will be very useful to see that.
