Thanks, akmom, I’ll look into it.

“PDF generation in progress. Please be patient.” Really?

DS’14 attempting to submit an application via Common App. this afternoon . . . he has been “on hold” for 90 minutes and counting.

I posted this article in the Common App thread:
Online Application Woes Make Students Anxious and Put Colleges Behind Schedule
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/13/education/online-application-woes-make-students-anxious-and-put-colleges-behind-schedule.html

glido – you took the words right out of my mouth – S tried to submit and I thought there was an error – “pdf generation in process” for 10 minutes. I should have waited 90. Did anything eventually happen?

I saw the article about the glitches in the NYT. Now I’m experiencing them.

“Due to inactivity in for 60 minutes your application information has been saved and you have been logged out.” So, DS is at 120+ minutes and still the application is not submitted. Set back!

D got her first acceptance! woohooo!! A@burn Univ. It was my bell weather, my Iowa straw poll if you will. I kind of thought if she didn’t get in there, it could mean trouble for her elsewhere. Phew! What a relief!

Congrats to your D eyemamom! That’s so great! It sounds like a relief - and hopefully will mean more good news to follow!

glido - me too! I got logged out. How are you supposed to not get logged out when the stupid website is “pending” for 90 minutes? So frustrating.

S did a non-CA app in the meantime. So at least one submitted.

eyeamom–I like your term “Iowa straw poll”. That is how I feel about some of these random EA apps I am having my son submit.

My stress level just went up today - spent some time reading about the issues on the CA! Mean while still no essays! We did decide on sending SAT scores - just decided to send all as all schools are super score schools and I doubt the Oct SAT scores will replace last years by the time transcripts are sent out. It bugs me to no end that our state puts SAT scores on the transcript and we have no say about this - it would be one thing if they paid for the tests but they do not. I hated to do this without seeing the scores but S has a Nov 1 ED school and everyone one was saying Oct scores should be there but there was no guarantee if we waited until we saw the scores to send them! He says he will work on essays tomorrow! I hope they just flow out of him and are wonderful - he is capable of this but I haven’t seen it in a while!

This afternoon D asked me to perform a final proof on her CA as she wants to submit her two EA school CA apps this evening. After reading about the problems several of you experienced today, I won’t be holding my breath!

Thanks for posting the link to this article. You just made my day. NOT!

Have you been able to make it work?

Have you been able to make it work? We’ve been timed out 4 times.

What’s Plan B here, smart and beautiful parents of the HS Class of 2014?

I think tomorrow I will call every single CA school on his list (if they’re open) and ask if I can fedex his whole friggin’ app to them so they have it by end of business Tuesday.

My guess is that it will be hard for schools expecting to deal with applications electronically. If most are electronic, then they’ll have to scan the ones they get via hard copy, don’t you think?

class - i was able to send a pdf of transcripts to one of the common app schools. And the school secretary had the nerve to be snippy with me, how was i supposed to know about the naviance/ca debacle?

If you can print the CA, I’d fedex it and end this agony already. At least then you get a signature it was received.

I came in here to post that DD14 pulled the trigger on her ED Vandy application while I was at a College Fair with her sister (DD15) … and I see there have been lots of problems! DD14 didn’t have any issues - either w/ payment or submission so I’ll count ourselves lucky for once.

Though, I have absolutely no idea how her essay reads. She wrote it today and sent it off by herself … it’s making me a little crazy, but there is absolutely nothing I can do about it so I refuse to stress OR make her stress.

The college fair was centered on performing & visual arts … TONS of schools … but since DD15 really wants to focus on a vocal performance major but only w/ a contemporary or popular music focus. Talk about a needle in a haystack! On paper it really looks like Belmont University would be a fit for her … but alas, they weren’t there.

(And Belmont would be even more perfect if her sister gets into Vandy. Wishful thinking!)

Sigh.

Hope everyone got the CA to work successfully eventually!

oldmom – good point – if CA doesn’t work, I will fedex AND email app directly to his adcom.

eyemamom – how dare she be snippy? She must not have kids.

S has no deadlines (none before Nov 1) but I have my own deadlines, if you know what I mean. I’m going to try first thing tomorrow morning and see if they’ve worked out the glitches.

I think based on this, schools will go to an either/or policy (CA or submit via school’s own site). Especially for the non-lottery schools.

eyemamom: Congrats to your DD on her acceptance!

Still no luck on the CA for our DS. He finished 4 applications today and he is unable to submit any of them because of the faulty Common App. software. We will keep trying tonight. This is exactly why I told him we could not wait until the last minute (EA deadlines approaching).
