glido – same – I keep logging on and trying – nothing.

SO frustrating.

glido – same – I keep logging on and trying – nothing.

SO frustrating.

I would imagine that if the CA glitch continues there may be an extension permitted for submission of ED applications.

I can only imagine how the CA system will be slammed the closer we get to Nov 1st…and even more so after Oct 24th when those Oct SAT scores are released. I realize my post here is pointless, but wanted to add to the ‘misery loves company’ group.

Our head of guidance announced that they would just send paper if they cannot transmit via CA & Naviance, but I don’t think the colleges will be ready for the deluge, as oldmom posted above.

Success around 10pm tonight CST with CA & writing submission for two schools (even got the emails confirming submission for both CA and supplement). Note that DS first had to pay fees on Friday; had to wait 48 hours to finally be able to submit signature and then do final submission despite getting email from CA on Friday they received fee payment.

Well, at least not being anywhere near ready to submit CA has one advantage. Hopefully, all glitches will be resolved by the time DS is ready to hit that submit button!

Congrats to those who had success submitting CA!

Son ‘14 applied to School #5 last night. He’s never been there, but he wanted to submit an app, because he had talked with the cross country coach. Nice, small D3 school in the midwest that specializes in STEM. We’ll see what happens. He still prefers a larger Southern school, but that all can change. Meanwhile, he gets to sleep in with today’s holiday, while I have a teachers’ workday. Wish I could have stayed in bed.

Success with CA. Set the alarm for 6:20, had my laptop by the bed, and ta da! Submitted 4 with no problem (one with a fee waiver, which was nice).

Question – in conversation with GC, there’s a chance a teacher made a mistake in grading. He submitted CA with GPA as is (was that bad?). I’m talking about the section on the CA where it asks for GPA. I figure if it gets revised, they’ll see the official GPA on the transcript…

He still has 5-6 apps to go so he could still revise GPA on CA. We’re talking about a very small change, if any.

me again. what’s up with the green checkmarks in the dashboard section? He submitted several CA apps and only 2 show the check mark. They are by the way the 2 schools that have fee waivers, so maybe CA only shows the check mark once they’ve processed your credit card?

Also – for schools with supplements – did you notice that they were not in the version you previewed?

Success at 3:30 am! It must be a traffic issue. DS got 3 CA applications submitted. Each took fewer than 10 minutes, but we were submitting in the middle of the night.

Takeaway - DO NOT WAIT FOR THE DEADLINE! Traffic will surely jam up the website.

Congrats to KaMaMom, Classof15 and 2018Col and all others for getting apps submitted! Great feeling.

If traffic is that bad now, weeks before the first ED/EA deadlines, I can’t imagine what it will be like later. They need to get their systems up to speed. The Jan. 1 deadlines for most RD applications will be much, much, much busier now than the ED/EA deadlines. Not a lot of kids should be applying EA/ED in comparison.

thanks glido! I was so relieved it was working this morning.

2016BarnardMom – I thought that too (it will only get worse) but maybe this is a wake up call for Common App to fix their systems.

Now I just have to chill about the next phase: waiting to hear.

Well - Since DD can’t seem to log in to CA to upload supplement questions or a trial essay so we can preview and pay, she’s moved on to her final (of EA schools) supplement essay. I assume it will be working within 2 weeks! And in the meantime, she’s working on more supplement questions. That’s not a bad thing! Although I would really like to be able to pay for a few and see a preview!!

Maybe CA doesn’t have all of their servers up and running at this point, since it is primarily ED/EA people applying right now. My son has been in the CA many times (including this morning to check to see if he needs to “nudge” teachers to get recs done) and hasn’t had issues so far.

I do recall, from my D’s days, that I logged in on Halloween at like 9 pm to pay for her EA apps and had no trouble at all. Ditto with Jan 1 for her RD apps. That one was a procrastinator like no other… lol. I know there were some that I could pay up front but others required me to wait until everything else was complete. I suspect those schools must have had problems with the student starting the app, the parent paying, and then the student changing her mind so it was never submitted but the parent had paid and now wanted his/her money back.

What kind of delay are your kids seeing from the time they submit the Ca/supplement until they hear from the university? All the confirmation emails were received from CApp but two schools are incommunicado a week later.

DS got confirmation emails from his CA schools within hours of his submitting the apps via the Common App. portal.

I think I prefer the CA-3 that we did with DS-2011. Click to submit, pay online, nearly immediate confirmation and the submittal was complete. DD tried last night and we got booted off one time and I said wait - lets pick a less busy time. I think I will have her try before school, early in the morning when web traffic should be a bit slower.

blueiguana- that varied greatly by the school when my D was applying. Most sent a letter with a website to use to create an account for tracking application materials.

@BI, My D submitted hers on Saturday 10/5 and got the confirmation emails (one for CA and one for the supplement) from the Common app. But no news from the college that she applied to, yet.

The college website says if the student hasn’t heard from them in 2 weeks to contact them.

just learned that UNC Chapel Hill has already extended their EA deadline due to CA issues

"Please know that we’re very sorry for any technical difficulties you may have experienced while trying to submit your application. We are in regular communication with the Common Application, which is doing their best to resolve these issues. We thank you for your patience.

If you haven’t applied already, we’d like to remind you that although our Early Action (EA) deadline is October 15 (tomorrow night at 11:59 PM), if you would like to be considered for our EA deadline but are unable to submit an application by tomorrow night due to technical difficulties, you may still submit your application until Monday, October 21 at 11:59 PM. Please note that all EA applicants will receive the same consideration regardless of whether an application is submitted by either October 15 or October 21."

Georgia Tech has also extended their deadline to 11/21.

Also received an email from Yale that said: “As you may know, the Common Application has recently been experiencing some technical difficulties related to the uploading and processing of documents and application materials. I want to assure you that this is not a cause for concern. The Yale Admissions Office expects to receive and process all application materials submitted online within our usual time frame. If these delays continue or there are related problems in the future, we will need to make exceptions for late documents and are prepared to do so. If a document is missing or improperly processed, a member of our staff will reach out to you or your school counselor directly.”

I heard from one college admissions director that at this point they usually see thousands of EA applications–right now it’s in the hundreds because of Common App issues on both the student side of the fence and the technology feeding them to the school.

Another wonderful reminder that the deadline is NOT the first day you submit your application!
