Parents of the HS Class of 2014

I’m impressed with all of you who have figured out avatars and the like, but honestly? Since this is my last… and he’s done figuring out where he’s going… and I’m an “old” dog with these new tricks… and there’s a bit going on otherwise…

I’m thinking I’m just going to wish you all well on your journey! It’s a fun, depressing, exciting, exasperating, and life changing event (all at the same time sometimes). This is our third (and final) time of doing it, so we’re more in the mode of “what’s next” at this point…

I may still check in once in a while - esp if I’m bored at school or looking for something specific for another student, but in general, Bon Voyage! May all your kids get a nice, financially acceptable choice and enjoy their experience!

@Creekland - Thanks. Hope Eckerd works out for your son. All the best …

OK. It worked. Not too pretty but better than the CC symbol I guess.

@creekland We’ll be sorry not to see so much of you but it makes sense to focus on other things in your life! Best of luck with your treatments and I’m sure your son will love Eckerd and the natural places of Florida.

Creek - hope it’s just this thread, and not of of CC! Many prayers for you as you move forward with everything.

As for the rest of you…how do you get an avatar?

I like your idea of making our avatar our name. =D>

Not much going on - DS worked on scholarships today. Waiting for two more decisions - Olin should come out this week and WashU announces April 1.

Lots of excitement going on over the next two weeks. My S should be receiving 6 notifications on whether or not he will be invited to go to on-campus interviews for full-ride scholarships and one EA decision. I am hoping for at least 2 invitations. The acceptances he has gotten so far have not been ones I would like him to attend and only one is really ok with him.

I will be completing FAFSA and CSS Profiles prior to a February 1st deadline at some of his schools. Also have been pushing S’s dad to get started on his non-custodial profile. I will feel much better once the forms are done and I don’t have to worry about those any more.

@eyemamom First find or make an image you want to use. Then select your own name at the top of the page, click on Edit your profile and find the Change My Picture link on the left. Does that help?

Thank you @CT1417

Curious to see how this avatar comes out!

Okay - so this is different. Where am I?

Hello all of you wonderful people! I hope all is well and this post finds you all in good health. I just wanted to check in to say hello. Its been some time since I’ve logged into CC.

CC looks so different! Wow…when did the remodeling occur?

To get a jpeg from Word on Windows, another option is to just select it and ctrl-c (copy) and then paste into Paint, and save out as a jpeg. That also allowed me to adjust it a bit so that my rectangular word art would be saved into a square size.

To get your picture to be your avatar, click on your name next to any post, then click the “edit profile” button (it’s orange), then “change my picture” in the left column of links. (That’s on a non-mobile device – I don’t know what it looks like on mobile).

@expatCanuck – great avatar :)

In other news, submitted the FAFSA and CSS Profile today. One school wants tax forms by the 15th – I have a very close estimate done, which I used for FAFSA and Profile, but it’s not ready for filing, as we’re still awaiting a number of forms (mostly my DH’s 1099-MISCs – we have the numbers, and don’t strictly need to forms to file, but I always like to double check our numbers against the 1099s before filing). And the schools that want the tax forms want all the 1099s as well, of course… Just my luck, ONE school wants IDOC and ONE other school wants the stuff sent directly to them – if they BOTH used IDOC, I could have saved on set of copies/mailing hassles. :-S

I asked my DS to give me his portal passwords so I can just check whether the financial aid stuff gets acknowledged by his schools without nagging him all the time (since asking him to check has not been met with cheerful compliance in the past). He agreed in principle, but hasn’t gotten around to doing that yet.

We’re not expecting any more news until March, so lots of waiting around here.

@go2mom - love the avatar - must send that to expatSon, and hope that he gets the point.

@Creekland I, too, will miss reading your posts. Wishing you and your son all the best!

Creekland, Best wishes as you send your last off to college! Hoping the next chapter in your life will be as interesting as the previous one! Cheers!

I submitted FAFSA today and completed the Profile but am waiting until payday to submit. The irony of paying to apply for financial aid is not lost on me. My taxes are pretty much done unless there’s something I haven’t received that I have forgotten about. The IRS isn’t going to start processing until 1/31 so there’s no point in e-filing until I’m confident I’ve received all of my forms. Is it awful that I sent the Profile stuff to my ex and told him the deadline was 5 days earlier than it really is?

Went away for a few days and was offline and I come back to chaos and confusion with the new layout. They have eliminated the marker that took you to your last post. For example this evening is said 48 new posts. Without post munbers and time/date details or the link to your last read post, I had to hunt through 3 or 4 pages that are now much slower to load. They have eliminated the post numbers so you could attempt to track or remember where something was. The posting details round to the date after a day. Not much fun finding where you left off reading. I’m beginning to think that Creekland has it right. OK - 2 cents of rant is over. One more thing, the code for smileys doesn’t seem to work anymore. :(

Anyone know the contact for the head moderator so I can submit my concerns?
