Parents of the HS Class of 2014

Gigem, this is a delayed response…new to CC and now struggling with the format on my phone! Both Clemson and UGA have great spirit and are quality state schools. Their locations are very different and I think the rural location of Clemson makes for a tighter knit community. I agree with poster that Greenville is a much nicer place to stay than Clemson, but it is a hour from campus if that makes any difference. Noticed your name and that your D is applying to UT :).

Eyemamom, my D only applied to a handful of schools but regrettably we haven’t seen two of them. I wish we had followed the thread with all the recommendations about this process. Although it wasn’t that I didn’t know we should visit junior year, time just got away from us and D wanted to visit when school was in full session. So we are wondering the same thing. My concern is that one of the schools D likes takes demonstrated interest into account. Do you think it’s too late to visit now for that purpose? The school is relatively far away so I have to take that into account. I hate to buy two airplane tickets without an acceptance in hand but won’t hear anything until April 1st. To all whose children did mostly EA and an ED I am so jealous!!

@2016BarnardMom, I thought that you have to submit the same day you complete the Profile. Don’t you have to report your assets as of the day you submit? This is my first time doing this so I’m trying to figure it all out and that has been one of the things stressing me out. I worry that the day I start filling it out, I will find that there is some information I will not find right away and then the next day, I will have to start over again to make sure the balances are correct as of the date I submit…

@jrmama496 You can save it and go back in to finish. I can change that one field before I pay. There’s a drop down menu that allows you to go just that interview section too. What is annoying to me is that the FAFSA has a way to port all your parent information to another student so you don’t have to re-enter everything. I don’t think the Profile does that, so I printed it to PDF so when I go in to do my daughter’s, I can put most of the same numbers. I hate the applying for financial aid part of all of this.

@AvonHSDad Once you’ve been here once after the migration and come back again, when you click on the link to the thread (the name of it) it takes you to the first unread post.

I’m jealous of all of you who are getting your taxes done so soon! I’ll be waiting on forms until Feb 15, when accountant tells me is the last day they can be mailed. So, my appt with him isn’t until the 20th. Give him a week. File. Wait for IRS. Run DRT. It’s looking like mid-March at the earliest before I can get the FAFSA wrapped up. Ugh.

@NewHavenCTMom - It’s been awhile! I was starting to worry about you! The new look just happened this weekend. It’s kind of like washing and blow drying your hair after an entirely new haircut. You’re bound to make mistakes but sooner or later you get the hang of it.

The next couple of weeks are going to be nailbiters. Go2girl’s attendance at several of her “reach” schools depends not only admittance, but specific merit/leadership scholarships she’s applied to. The good news is that if she’s been asked to interview, she should be hearing within the next 2-3 weeks. Still on edge to find out if she’s made the finalist cut for the Vandy scholarship. I think I am more stressed out about it than she is. She’s still riding high from the reality that she only has one semester left of high school. I just want her to enjoy every minute of it!

@CT1417 Regarding Tulane…DS and spouse really liked the general vibe of campus…urban, relaxed, but with an edge. The kids all seemed really happy. My son, who will enjoy a rah/rah football experience, was excited about the new on-campus football stadium due to open this fall. He met with a couple of students for lunch and liked them both…both were upperclassmen (premed/biomedical engineering students) who were very satisfied with their experiences there. I think my son liked the notion of being at a very social (perhaps less intense than his high school has been) school, yet being a part of the Honors group where he can still opt for Honors housing which tends to be a bit more quiet. Lastly…again I repeat…what’s not to like about flowers and sunshine, and 65 degrees in January!!

Oh my gosh … I’ve been gone for a bit. You know, applications, scholarship applications, FAFSA, Profile, nervous breakdown, excessive sleeping, angsting. Cheese Louise, I have no idea where I left off, what’s happening, I’m getting a gazillion email notifications. All I want to say is, couldn’t CC have changed their ENTIRE format during the summer, or some other year other than THIS year??? This is my place to enjoy my cup of coffee and catch up on all things … and now. At the very least, they could’ve warned us. I don’t like change. This year is already choke full of change and the anticipation of even bigger impending changes. I’ll stop whining now.

I mostly read on my iPhone and that’s also a reason why I don’t post as often. The mobile version doesn’t work at all (no links to go to a page number). The one positive thing about this new software is that the “drafts” are saved as we type. I have run into several times and have seen others complain about losing a message because it took too long to compose the message and the site timed out by then. Hopefully CC will help fix several other issues and bring back the popular features of the old site.

We are in the waiting mode and hoping for positive news as we get to March. Good luck to those waiting like us and congratulations to those who have received good news and already waiting for us at the dock. Can’t wait to hop on the Indecision.

Hi all,

I had been locked out for a few days for some technical glitch… worked with support to get me back online. I now am trying to change my avatar. I confess I am NOT a tech person and am having visions of throwing my computer out the window.

<deep breath=""></deep>

I read somewhere click on my name at the top of the page, then go to edit profile. For the life of me, I can’t find any link to “edit profile.” Whenever I click on my name at the top of the page, it asks me to log in again. So I do, and am no further, so I click on my name and it again asks me to log in. Kind of like a bad twilight zone episode.

Can someone please tell me how to find the link to edit my profile? Thank you!

I can’t get into the site with my Chrome browser, and had to switch to Safari. Anyone know of a fix other than clearing out all of my cookies on Chrome?

Try clicking your name next to your post, and see if that gets you to your profile. If you keep getting logged out, you may have a “cookies” problem – you probably had to clear your cookies to get CC to start working for you again, but you now may not be letting CC set cookies for you on your computer at all, which would explain you getting logged out every time you try to do something.

Overthehedge - demonstrated interest isn’t just in person interviews. She can go to a school fair, sign up in the website and go to it, call the admissions counselor for the area and ask questions. I personally wouldn’t make a big trip to prove interest. I’m in the camp of waiting until she gets in to go visit.

She was just invited to a cornerstone program at George Mason. I’m not sure what it is, but we’re going for accepted students day this week so she’ll find out more then.

We have most of the rest of the trips booked we need to and hopefully after next months trips she’ll be able to make a decision.

Thanks MathMom. When I click on my name next to the post, it shows me my profile, including my messages. But there is a “Log In/Sign up” button at the top and I don’t see any way to edit my profile.

I did have to clear all cookies to access the site but my computer is accepting cookies now. I also tried signing out and logging in again but that didn’t help.

Where would the link to edit the profile be located? I may need to contact support again.

Thank you!

@calla1 When I am logged in and click on my name at the top of a page (or anywhere, actually) I see a great big orange button “Edit profile” in the middle of the page. Are you sure you are logged in? Does your name show up in the upper right with the globe, message tray, star, and settings gear wheel? If not, that’s certainly a problem!

@GoldenWest, you may have tried this already, but did you also clear your cache in chrome? Settings, show advanced settings, privacy, clear browsing data. Make sure cookies and cached info is clicked.

That worked for me on two separate computers with chrome

D got her first college acceptance today. She got in to USC (SoCal) and she’s a Presidential scholarship finalist (half tuition). We don’t qualify for any financial aid so w/o any merit scholarship, it’s hard to justify the 60K+ COA.

Thank you Dave; I had tried clearing the cache and that alone did not work. After clearing cookies, however I am now good to go. If they will just get the mobile app fixed now!

@crowlady, I guess I will need to work more with technical support. When I am logged in, I do see my name in the upper right, with all the icons. But when I click on my name, I get an orange button that says “Sign up For Free” and the top of the page has changed to buttons that ask me to log in.

Back to technical support. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Thanks. She spoke to the ad com at a college fair last spring, signed up for mailings and visits their website. My main concern is that the school strongly recommends an interview.

It sounds like your D has a lot of good options!

I need to get to work on Fafsa and Profile so my D will hopefully have some options too!
