Parents of the HS Class of 2014

I tried to update the 2018 acceptances thread but it looks like there is a character limit. That explains why it hasn’t been updated since Jan 21!

Ok, never underestimate what boredom and addiction can do. Old dogs can learn new tricks! :o3

I’m off work for a while… and there’s only so much that one can do otherwise… and I do like seeing what is going on with all our 2014s! It was VERY helpful to learn we can now click on the title of a thread and go right where we need to be. I do think that was the most annoying thing. I also wish we could still see if there were new posts on various college forums without having to click on them individually, but I guess I can live with that one - or is there a solution for that I’ve missed?

Hopefully they will fix the character limit deal so the acceptances thread can get up to date too!

Those of you in the southern storm route - stay safe (and enjoy the winter beauty before it melts!).

Welcome back Creekland! Schools in our area are closed today due to sub zero temps. The wind chill is 30 below. Normal temps are upper 30s, low 40s. This has been one very strange winter. We have now exceeded all calamity days.

Equally strange here in SoCal, but in a totally different way. I don’t think we’ve had a day below 75 since before Christmas. No rain means everything is dry & crispy & extremely flammable.

BTW, I read that Tulane in New Orleans is closing today due to severe winter weather! They are expecting their 18th “snow event” since 1852.

@momreads, what a story on the US Presidential Scholar application. DS is mentally so done with applications so I am not sure how to get him to send this one in.

In addition to the US Presidential Scholar, DS also received the USC acceptance and its Presidential Scholar Finalist notification in the mail. We are seeing his weekends starting to be filled up by these interviews he will have to go to in order to obtain the scholarship.

What is the code for including quotes when replying ?

I wanted my son to apply to USC, but that would require getting references and more work. So we didn’t apply. I even started the common application for him to complete.

BTW, what scores are required for getting a Presidential Scholarship?

Hello friends!! Can anyone share how to send a Private Message or is that no longer an option?

@ljmom
The selection to USC’s merit scholarship is holistic. So, no minimum required scores/GPAs But it’s very competitive. I heard that only 3% were selected out of the applicants that turned in their applications for scholarship consideration.

2018dad, Got it! Thank you so much!

I have been following this thread for awhile and love reading all of your helpful tips although I must admit that sometimes I’m overwhelmed by it all. I have a question that I hope someone can answer…my D received the USC big yellow envelope on Sat (we’re in SoCal) but there was no mention or letter regarding the scholarships…does this mean she’s not in the running? @2018dad – Did your letter come separately from the big envelope?

Congrats Go2girl on DD’s USC scholarship – fingers crossed! Spygirl sent in the last application last night, so now it’s a waiting game until April 1.

I just noticed the new “Like” option. How many times in the past have I wanted to like some of your advice? I may have to start using this!

@CLSOF2014
All the scholarship information are in the packet. The type of scholarship is mentioned in the “Official Admission Conditions and Further Information” letter and also in the Experience USC 2014 brochure.

@clsof2014, I have heard that a selective number of students did receive the acceptance but no scholarship, although, my son received both. I think it’s almost like an early action acceptance if you will.

@creekland I bookmarked all my favorite threads (by clicking on the star under the title so it is yellow). Now I can easily use the My Bookmark link (on the left sidebar) to see at one glance which threads have been updated and go right to them only if there is something new.

Thank you both so much for your replies! And congratulations to both of your DC on their acceptances and scholarship consideration! It’s a nail-biting time around our house but we’re very thankful to hear so early on her acceptance!

@ijmom - You mentioned that students applying to UCLA might hear this week…I thought decisions came out in March? Did I miss something?

@Creekland I’m really glad to see you’re back :slight_smile: It DOES get better with a few days of the new format under your belt. Being able to @ people is nice. I like the “Like” button. And I love your Avatar! So much more creative than mine.
