Congrats to NCDad and son! My brother went to grad school at UNC and I only saw the campus once but I thought it was beautiful!

Tomorrow may be snow day #7 for the boy. That’s the point where they have to start making up days. The governor did pass something to allow them to add minutes to the existing school days to make up the time. I’m not sure an extra few minutes of each class per day is quite the same as a whole class period, but it would be a little easier to implement than extra days I guess. The suggestion was that they do that to avoid additional transportation costs.

Thanks everyone! I’ve never been a prouder alum.

@Maryjay60 Tell me about it…his younger sister is a junior and has told my wife and I that she will now “consider herself a failure” if she doesn’t get in next year. She’s always had the better grades of the two, but this is the first time we’ve heard her say something so competitive.

NCDad-I do remember your posts from last spring since as a lawyer and married to a judge I commented on it. Wow-just shows you how life is!! Congratulations to you and your son-I bet it was a long wait. I imagine your son has done a lot of growing up during the year. I also remember he learned some valuable lessons and it is nice that NC saw that he had made a “dumb” mistake but not one that should deny him admission. Enjoy the acceptance!!

NCDad: Congrats to your son. I know you are proud. One of my son’s friends just had UNC enter his college picture . He was all set to head to UVA, but UNC is interested in having him wrestle. So he and his folks are testing the waters to see just how much interest the school really has in him. His friend has exceptional stats and scores and plans to study engineering. So, we’ll see what happens.

Meanwhile, Son '14 has been bitten by the flu bug. Missed school yesterday with a temp of 102. But, he has caught a break today. Freezing rain canceled school. So if he feels better, he can play catch up on some assignments. He spent most of yesterday sleeping, but around dinner time, he did appear downstairs wrapping in a blanket. The smell of a cranberry pork roast brought him to the dinner table, and while he did not eat much, he enjoyed what he did eat.

Congrats NCdad! Love seeing posts of joy. My girls were accepted to unc-chapel hill too, but the OOS COA is pretty high for us w 2 attending. Decisions decisions.

@student4ever I have not found a way to subscribe to forums. I’d like to with a couple of the college forums - or at least have them show up somehow (as they did before) when there are new posts in them.

Another snow day at home as well - due to ice (so good call as there are plenty of road closures due to accidents already). We’re now 2 days into June for all and the weather forecast for next week after Tuesday sure doesn’t look good. What a winter!

Congratulations to you and your son, NCDad!! UNC is a great school and beautiful campus!

Welcome 3tallblonds! I have boy-girl twins who will be graduating. They are like night and day though, with D’14 looking mostly at schools out-of-state, and S’14 happy to go to the local CC for a couple years before transferring to a 4-year school. Thankful for that as S’12, after taking the last year off, is planning on returning to school in the Fall. Hope having multiples attending at the same time will help us both with financial aid!

Congrats NCDad! What an accomplishment! And in-state tuition? If so, what a bonus! Welcome 3tallblondes. I can’t imagine navigating two students’ college process at the same time. We’ll make sure yours is a double at the bar of the SS Indecision!

Congrats to your son NCDad, and welcome 3tallblondes!

Barnardmom what part of the country do you live in that he’s missed 7 days? Spygirl would be absolutely frantic missing the much. Spyboy, not so much :)

The Arctic air is heading south into the Pacific Northwest and we’re in for more cold and snow. I always feel so bad for the animals. Our old horse 31+ years won’t come into the barn or wear a blanket. She spent much of her life in a much colder area with lots of snow. But it makes me cold looking at her!

Off to the parade. Principal sent out an email this morning at 7:10 excusing kids from school today. All is good. We’re bundled up (26 degrees) and ready to share in the excitement. Now, if I can just find a parking spot in the Park N Ride…

We are finally getting the rain that was way overdue. But three straight days of rain will not do.
We don’t have any news to add from the admission front.
It will be a long wait for us as nothing will come out till mid to late March. Waiting game is not that fun!

Congrats everyone! Kudos to all those kids writing more essays!

My d just posed a question - we’re setting up visits to the schools where she’s been accepted, but hadn’t visited yet. She wanted to know if she really wants to go to the school we’re seeing this Friday, would she still need to go to visit the other schools. Hmmm… what do you think? Every school is working out to be about the same price, so where she goes doesn’t involve a financial consideration.

She should be hearing from her reach next week, which we’ve seen. I’ll be shocked if she gets in and I’m not even sure I think it’s even her top choice.

eyemamom, congratulations to your D on having good choices. Great question… I think it would depend on how much she loves it. If she’s completely sold, and you are happy with it, more visits aren’t necessary, IMO. But if either of you is lukewarm, I’d do the other visits.

@creekland—I may be misunderstanding your question as I never knew how to bookmark under the old model, but if I check the star next to the name of the thread in the forum where it appears, I then receive notifications every time a new comment is added to the thread. The notifications appear as a read number next to the globe at the upper right of the screen. If you decide you no longer want to receive notifications for a specific thread, there is an easy unbookmark option at the top of each page, immediately below the name of the thread.

Congratulations NCDad!!! I followed that thread last year and inspired by how well you were able to think through and how well behaved most of the cc community at that time. Kudos to you!!!

momofwon, have fun at the parade.

eyemamom, we are not there yet so I am not sure what exactly we will do. But right now, I think I would have D continue to visit at least one other school and compare. Congratulations to your D!
