Parents of the HS Class of 2014

The NMF letter finally arrived yesterday (we had called on Friday, so we knew he had advanced, but now do finally also have the letter in hand).

Congratulations BarnardMom!!!

crowlady, Congratulations to your son for the $$ choices. D got admitted to Northeastern, but the scholarship is not very good. We will visit and decide later after she has all the acceptances. Wishing your son good luck for Northeastern and may be we see each other and support each other in person :slight_smile: We are planning to start visiting soon.

@BarnardMom - big congrats! And what great timing!

@onlyonemom - so glad you can get a loaner for your trip! We were originally scheduled to see UVM on Friday but changed to see UMass as it was the only day DD had free for UMass and we could make other days for UVM if need be.

Thanks all :slight_smile: It was a very good day for sure! My manager and director said they are positioning me to be able to move another level up when something is available that I’m interested in. The next level also brings a company car deal with it so that’s really cool. I’m pretty excited :slight_smile:

The sun is shining and it’s like 45 degrees out and it just makes me feel all happy and bouncy. There is hope that spring may be coming after all!

Congrats, BarnardMom!

@akmom, we’ll be at UVM on Friday ;-)

@mathmomvt and @onlyonemom - Hope you both enjoy UVM on Friday! DD really liked it when we visited last year but I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around paying that much for an OOS public even with the highest Presidential Scholarship. Especially given the scholarships she received at St. Mikes. But we’ll see once she hears from more schools.

Had a really lovely day with DD today. Successful prom shopping trip with her BFF and mom. Both girls got dresses they loved (or actually ordered them). Then to lunch at a hibachi place which was really fun. And when we got home and picked up yesterday’s mail, there was a letter that DD had received a scholarship from the State for the Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship! She had already been notified that she hadn’t advanced to the state final level so this was a very nice surprise!

@akmom, UVM is instate for us, so of course, DS doesn’t think he’s interested. We’ve actually never visited and I’m hoping he’ll be pleasantly surprised because for in-state, with a NMF scholarship, it’s actually a very affordable choice.

@momreads -I think I would have gone helicopter on the “1/2 point from an A with a 100 on the final” scenario. Impressed with your DS but not with his teachers. What I don’t get is what the teacher gets out of this- your DS proved he knew his stuff-how’s it going to hurt the teacher to be a 1/2point generous in rounding. ugh it makes me crazy. I am dealing with a teacher right now who sounds similar. He has what i call a “professor” complex. He is new and comes in bragging about what a tough grader he is. FIne…but what is your job here? To teach, I think, and to help the kids learn, not to make their lives miserable so you can fulfill your little control issues.Sorry- had to vent. Hope your son gets lots of good karma from his respect and graciousness.

@BarnardMom – Fantastic news - Congrats!
@akmom-- Yay for your D!

@Mrspepper - I agree. What does it matter to that teacher to bump up a clearly very hard working student. I just don’t get people sometimes.

It happened to D, junior year second semester and this semester which are the most important grades. D was not happy but said she can’t beg, I was not happy at all. That was one of the recent episode of my emotional volcano explosion, I was sorry I got mad at my daughter in the end. I guess it all works out in the end. I don’t get it at all what the teachers trying to accomplish sometimes but oh well. I am feeling positive about the good karma now :slight_smile:

On grade rounding.
It also happened to my D junior year on AP Chem. The teacher was very tough. The class started with about 20 kids. Then slowly kids dropped out. By 2nd sem , there were only 10 kids left. My D was shy about 0.1 point from an A first semester and the teacher didn’t give it to her. Luckily on that class, if you get a 5 on the AP test, the teacher can bump 1 semester grade to the next letter grade. My D got a 5 so she eventually got an A.

I’ve taken the last week off from posting…literally holding my breath until today…go2girl got the Vanderbilt Ingram Scholarship! We are over the moon! It is full tuition and up to a $5K stipend to do an annual summer project.

To eyemamom–so sorry about your kitty. We lost our doggy last May and it is so hard.

To Barnardmom–Congrats on the promotion and raise!

To all of you parents with good news about your kids process getting closer to decision day…hang in there!

That’s amazing go2mom!!! Way to go go2girl!!! Congratulations

Wow!
cograts to D of gotomom!

just wow!

Congratulations to your child @go2mom. Now you go buy her a new car. She deserves it.

Congrats to @barnardmom – sometimes it seems like all our focus is on our kids so it is nice to be able to celebrate your personal wins too! And what field are you in and how do I get into that line of work ;-)

Fantastic news @go2mom , your D must be floating on air right now.

Wow, @go2mom, that is incredible. You must be so proud and your daughter must be so (justifiably!) happy!

@go2mom, congratulations! How awesome!!! You must be SO proud!!

@barnardmom, congratulations on your accomplishments as well!!
