@mdcmom – my son will also be at Cornell this fall (or in less than eight weeks–yikes!)

You mentioned a mailing about signing up for classes……was this sent via snail mail? We haven’t seen anything here yet but not sure I need to worry quite yet.

Sorry about the triple. Hopefully they will be able to loft the beds.

My daughter has a countdown in her room. We’re flying a week before move-in day. We also haven’t received the orientation guides and the book for the summer reading. The orientation guides (student and parents) are available online now though.

So our next big thing is Launching folks. The 2012 parents at this point started listing the date followed by the names of who was launching. You just copy the list to your post and add your son or daughter. Some of the southern schools launch in early August- just over a month away.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Got behind in reading (again!) but am finally caught up!
DS had orientation the week before last. Had a great time, signed up for classes, met new friends and got to meet one of his roommates. I also had a good time and met some parents from the FB group. He’s happy with his schedule, but like others will probably need to change after AP scores come out.

We’ve started the mountain of dorm supplies in the spare room. Slowly adding to it with things he needs. Big things still to buy are a floor lamp and tower fan. There are several things he’s planning to take that are large - bicycle, guitar, backpack. Not sure he will have room for it all! He is in a quad with private bedrooms, so at least the roommates won’t have to trip over it!

I like the description above of the sloth-like attitude. DS is not doing much thus summer. He wouldn’t go look for a job, so his job is to babysit little brother. And mow the lawn.

He is doing a community service project that counts for one honors hour prior to regular move in. He’ll get to move in early, so hopefully it won’t be as busy.

D is getting very excited. She’s been corresponding with roommates & making lists. We will have ONE shopping day when we arrive across the country, so have to think it all out ahead of time. We originally planned on two shopping days, but decided to use one to run up to NYC and catch Neil Patrick Harris in his Broadway show. Chance of a lifetime! We bought our tickets months ago, then found out that our day will be his FINAL day in the show - so very excited!

I listed my son as an August 1st move-in date because he will be doing the Freshman Summer Start Program. This is a six week summer school program designed for incoming freshmen, to help them earn credits, get to know the campus and services and hit the ground running in the fall.

So… not sure if it’s the official launch date but we’ll be dropping him up at his school and I’ll be crying my eyes out all the way home so it feels like a launch to me.

@calla1 I’d say that’s the launch date then. I think launching is far more stressful than waiting for admission decisions, dealing with redirections and cruising on the SS Indecision. This list helps us know where we need to focus our support.
