Parents of the HS Class of 2014

@calla - close enough. Our date is the date she and I get on a plane - I figure that’s the big one.

Have to add one funny thing – I went to a graduation party for a boy in S’s grade (I’m friends with his mom). She said he liked Vineyard Vines clothing, so I got him a nice polo shirt. She asked me for my address so I figured he was sending a thank you note. I got it today – a card with “thank you” on the outside. I open it up – completely blank. I bet his mom said “send her a thank you card” and he feels like he complied.

@Classof2015 - That is so funny! I would love to see the look on his mother’s face when she finds out what he did.

When I mailed the grad party invites and announcements, I purposely purchased twice as many stamps as I needed and I printed out two sets of the address labels so they’d be ready to go when he wrote his thank you cards. He started on the cards and I couldn’t find the darn stamps! Thankfully, I just found them- before I purchased more. With as few things as I mail these days, it would take me forever to go through 50 stamps!

I listed the 23rd because that is D’s move-in date, but I won’t actually say “goodbye” until the 24th. The school has programs for parents the afternoon and evening of the 23rd and following morning. They kick parents off campus at 2:00 on the 24th.

Aw, can you all go back and add the name of the colleges? Several of us pop in from the Parents of 2015 board to get glimpses into our futures.

Quick question: we’re going to my S’s girlfriend’s graduation party this afternoon. She’s sharing it w a family friend (the two families are co-hosting). My son doesn’t know the other girl and we don’t either (don’t know the family at all). What should I give the other girl as a present?

@RenaissanceMom‌ Surely, the other girl and her family won’t be expecting gifts from people they don’t know! I’d say a card with a small gift card - $5 - to Starbucks or similar with a note to enjoy a study break in the fall.

@shoboemom‌ - I just thought the same thing! I’ll try to add in the ones that I remember or can find. (oops - can’t access the google doc with everyone’s infl)

My son’s classes don’t start until after Labor Day but they have different move in days for different dorms and his is on the early side. Labor Day is early this year (September 1) so most will move in before the weekend before even if they start right after Labor Day. The late start schools will be those on trimesters such as Northwestern.

Back from vacation trip and just read the last 10 days of postings. Congrats to all of those HS-2014 kids that graduated in the past week. It appears that all of the graduations are completed as we hit the end of June. 51 days to go before D’s move-in. Dorm shopping will begin after grandparents leave for home on the 6th and AvonMom can get the house back together. D’s orientaion is the three or four days immediately following move-in as the kids come from all over the country. They pre-register online in June and then meet and review their fall course selections and schedules with their advisors during the NSO days. While on our vacaton, D met a couple of alums from her college and while the school has changed, they still live in the area and they spent a considerable amount of time discussing the local shopping, events, fun places to go, local train and bus routes, etc. It’s like she has a private orientation session.
