Parents of the HS Class of 2015

@Hoosier96, could you clarify? You called College Board’s DSS section and they said November (or all) scores are released Tuesdays and Thursdays? But he didn’t say which Tuesday or Thursday they might be released? And they said we can’t take it to a higher authority within College Board until after December 11th?

Just want to make sure I understand. I didn’t call DSS; I called the regular College Board, but it sounds like I should have called DSS.

When my son took the SAT last June with accommodations, his scores weren’t delayed. Not sure why it’s happening now…

Best wishes to all the QB kids. Hoping for happy results!

Best wishes to your friend BHM! [-O<

All SAT scores are released on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Not all are released on day one; they begin releasing on that day. Since Thursday was a holiday no scores were released. So he said to check this Tuesday and Thursday. Hopefully they will be here this week but if not they (college board) have to have reasonable time before they investigate further?.
Wishes to the stars BHM for your D’s friend.

Got it! Thanks for the explanation, Hoosier.

And in other news, my son’s school was evacuated after a bomb threat. Happens about once a year or so. Normally, I assume it’s someone who doesn’t want to take a math test, but I wonder about the timing today, with all the Ferguson protests.

It was a hoax, and the worst that happened was the students having to spend a couple of hours in the cold at the football stadium looking at their phones, which are technically contraband.

My son told me he “broke protocol” by not simply exiting, but grabbing his backpack and trombone. Arguably a good choice, since they didn’t let them back in the school.

Whoa, latichever! I’m glad you sound so calm about it.

@celesteroberts, Northern California has a mild climate (though not so sunny as farther south) and doesn’t have the same water supply issue as southern CA. But you’d have to be able to deal with the fog.

I happen to agree with your H that CA, as well as the rest of the West, is going to get a rude awakening soon with regard to water, but I have to ask: does he have a particular reason for worrying about water supply? I mean, does he work in a related field? I work in environmental policy so I hear a lot about groundwater overdraft, water conservation, etc.

@celesteroberts, I was going to recommend AZ for your relocation until you mentioned the part about ripping apart textbooks. I guess you could say that’s only Gilbert and hope for the best in other towns. I would like to say that ripping apart textbooks would never happen in Tempe so ASU is your option.

BHG’s dear friend, ‘Belle’, is attending Wesleyan University in the fall–she was matched!!! Belle waited until her mother returned from work in case of bad news. They then called us up & put us on speaker phone as Belle’s mother video taped Belle pulling up her Questbridge page. Next, we heard tons of screaming, and, “Oh no, and oh my G-d, and this can’t be happening,” and etc. We thought she did not get matched at first! Belle’s mother might still be crying tears of joy. Belle must accept admission to the highest matched school in her rank order and is not informed if any of the schools below Wesleyan matched her. She only knows that Brown did not offer her admission. Belle told us the number accepted at Wesleyan, but I forgot already–maybe 12 or 15?

Here is how Belle ranked her list of 8 schools:

Brown
Wesleyan
Swarthmore
Pomona
Williams
Bowdoin
Carleton
Oberlin

I want to thank everyone for their positive thoughts and prayers. Belle worked extremely hard, and so did her mother, to get to this point, and it paid off.

Wonderful news, @BunHeadMom‌ !!! I am so happy that it worked out for Belle and just want to add that I think it’s so sweet of you to gift your dorm purchases to her.

BHM such amazing news for your friends. And what an honor to be able to share that moment with them.

Hi all, I usually just read–however, need to add two cents on missing SAT scores:

Oct 11,2014 – no SAT I scores (DD had only taken test once in May 2014, and needed a second round of scores)
Sent an email to college board–automatic reply said they’d get back to us in 48 hours

DD’s EA applications were in jeopardy: called back the next day–was told it takes 5-7 business days to investigate starting NOW

Called the next day–different operator told me we needed an incidence # to trigger an investigation, and he’d put a report in, and the 5-7 business days investigation would start NOW (lost 2 days)

Called the next day with incidence # in-hand–was told that they discovered the problem, but now that they had located the test sheets, they would be sent to scoring, and the 5-7 business days investigation would start NOW

Called the 5th day–no news, but they would note the urgency, and send a report up to the “expeditors”.
Called on the ever moving “7th day” and was told that there was no news.

Told them we were at deadline and I needed a US number to call; all these calls were going to an overseas call center. There was some hesitation, so I told them I had no choice but to start calling US numbers on the website to complain about how long this had dragged on.

Immediately got a supervisor, who told me she would follow-up and someone would call me within two days: took her name and number.

Two days later, a very nice woman called me from the D.C. area, and said she was waiting for the scores to post that day–it was a Tuesday. A couple of hours later, the scores posted, and I sent them RUSH (yes paying the extra $31 was worth it–her scores improved 120 points :)

But what a battle.

Congrats to your daughter’s friend, BHM!

Maystarmom, how aggravating! I’m glad you got it sorted out.

Wow, Maystarmom, I guess I’m going to keep on them. I did not get an incident number. I am going to call back tomorrow if the scores aren’t up. Our cases might be more complicated because of the accommodations. I think I’ll call both DSS and College Board. I don’t want to have to pay to rush, but I will if we have to. My son emailed Northeastern again, but didn’t hear back from them this time. I don’t know what to think.

And wonderful news, BHM! That must be just so thrilling for your young friend!!

@BunHeadMom…So happy to hear Belle got an outstanding QB match!! Sometimes the power of positive thoughts (combined with an outstanding young woman :-bd ) produces great results!!

@BunHeadMom… so excited for Belle! She will make the most of this opportunity I am sure and will do amazing things in her life!!!

Very, very happy for your friend @BunHeadMom. I hope she has an amazing experience.

I always tell my kids that fortune favors the prepared. IOW, do the hard work so you are ready to grab opportunities that come your way. Sounds like Belle has worked hard to be ready for this moment.

@BunHeadMom What a lovely story to start the day!
@Maystarmom‌ So frustrating having to deal with that.

We still have to wait close to 3 weeks for EA news. Only 2 apps submitted so far. D is plugging though the supplemental essays; I hope she doesn’t run out of steam with only a month left to finish them all.

@BunHeadMom - wonderful news!

We are starting to schedule auditions. It looks like there will be more than one trip across PA during January : (
