Parents of the HS Class of 2015

Good news here. Wishing everyone who is waiting good luck!

One more for today. D applied ED to a LAC and was accepted. So ready to sit by the pool on the Lido deck and taste test all those fruity drinks the cabana boys bring me. :)

My D found out tonight she got in to Smith College. She applied ED. Thrilled beyond words!

D did her first music audition today and it went excellent. After the audition, interview and theory test they handed her an acceptance into the music therapy department. She was smiles from ear to ear…it isn’t her first choice school…at least not yet…but the boost of confidence knowing she has at least one complete yes is very stress relieving.

More news for today! S just got his first 2 acceptances. One to our state flagship and the other to his HMFR! So happy for him…glad that he has these in his pocket before Christmas break.

I am enjoying reading about everyone’s acceptances and scholarships! Things are really getting rolling now!

Wow, how great to read all this good news! Congrats to everyone with acceptances!

Unfortunately, my D’s ED school which has “mid-December” as its ED notification apparently is considering next week to be “mid.” I wish there was a hard and fast date for notification! It wouldn’t be so bad if next week wasn’t finals, since stress is already high around here.

An acceptance to an HMFR (@Felicita)…we’re cruising now!

Congratulations on all the happy news tonight!

Happy happy happy news for so many today. Congrats to all and enjoy the weekend!!!

ED acceptance to top LAC. So relieved for him.

“Relief” really sums up my feelings as well @Ramon712 . Phew! And congratulations to your son.

So much congratulations! Its very heartening to read lots of positive early result news from this group. Thank you all for sharing it! How many of us are still in suspense for early results this weekend or next week?

The waiting is rough, and the kid keeps coming home with bigger and bigger fish tales/urban legends about HMFRs spread by her schoolmates. “Mom, did you know that only 2 kids from the entire state of Maryland got into harvard last year?” “Mom, Billy told me that the valedictorian from Rival High got deferred from harvard, and he’s an award winning concert pianist so that means I have no chance at (EA school)”. “Mom, Dave says (EA school) will only take one of us and (other girl applicant) got X award sophomore year so he says they’ll choose her.”

So much great news here congratulations to all of you!

Still shopping for colleges to apply to here! :)

So much great news! congrats to all! And here it begins again… just dropped off S18 to take the ACT :)

Wow!! Tons of great news for so many of you!! Congrats to all and to your DCs!! <:-P :-bd

Wow, I’m finally coming up for air & reading about the many amazing acceptances, scholarships & merit awards. Congrats to all! What a relief that must be to those who know where the DC will be attending college next year. I am jealous.

@W2BeHome, I’m thinking of you & your family. Please accept my condolences on the loss of someone so important in your life.

@BunHeadMom, I hope “Belle’s mom” ultimately allowed you to gift her those college-related items. Congratulations to Belle and thank you for sharing such a positive story with our crew.

Speaking of crew, I ran into Mary Ann on the Lido Deck & asked when she’d be posting an updated 2015 USS Indecision list. Distraught, she explained that her only laptop had crashed in November, causing her to lose everything not backed-up (like our most recent crew list) and taking almost 3 weeks for the expensive tech people to recover her hard-drive…all while The Professor had to go frantically buy a new computer… By the time her hard-drive was recovered, she was well into the holiday madness - so she apologized promised to find the crew list on the recovered hard-drive and post an update soon.

Imagine my surprise, because we had the exact same thing happen in our household! Laptop crashed, most essential DS college app stuff was not backed up on an external drive (duh!), and much wringing of hands & gnashing of teeth ensued. So I can completely relate to Mary Ann’s situation, because November was pretty painful around here on the college app front, having lost some key essay material for a period of (critical) time.

On the “better news” front, DS has finally finished applying to so many schools that I won’t list a number lest I be shamed off the ship. Many were No-App-Fee CA schools with few/no supplemental items, there are 3 in-state publics in the mix, several regional schools both public and private, then the NMF schools like Alabama (Roll Tide!). It has been grueling, but essential to cast a wide net. Anything administrative-related, I have handled so DS could focus on essays, short-answer questions (and high school stuff!). So far, he hasn’t had a rejection and I will post some of his colleges in the acceptances thread at some point. Many colleges have already provided merit awards, which has been appreciated, so we know where DS has landed in many cases (except for additional potential awards via Scholarship Days). I do see a definite trend in merit aid thus far.

DS still has several institutional scholarship essays to write. I need to help him hunt down outside scholarships, too. The wait for NMF is long (for us, because DS as one semester C on his transcript from Soph year), and NMF will determine everything. We have an NMF strategy, a non-NMF strategy (meh), and a safety strategy for in-state that DS is not too thrilled about. But DS knows where his parents are coming from - casting a wide net is essential - so hopefully he will have options to choose from once we are clear on NMF.

Starting in January, he will be gone a lot for auditions and scholarship days. Looking at the calendar is officially freaking me out.

I don’t get to post as much as I’d like, but really enjoy keeping tabs on everyone via the iPad, so thank you to all who continue to share great stories and wisdom on this thread.

Great to see you GoAskDad, and glad things are progressing well for you guys!

Reading this thread this morning has made my day. Congratulations to the kids and the parents here reporting such great news!

Several posters have used the term HMFR. What does that mean?

High … reach

Congratulations on all the great news!

@GoAskDad, you are a ray of sunshine. I love reading your updates whenever you post. I’m so sorry about the laptop and hard drive though! I cannot imagine going through that in the height of writing applications. I’m glad things are progressing well.
