Parents of the HS Class of 2015

@skieurope‌ congratulations!!!

D1 is waiting for her sole EA decision, but it’s really not anxious or stressful or anything. The school is an admissions safety, but unaffordable without major merit scholarship money, so she won’t know if it’s a realistic option until they send the FA analysis some time next year. (Unless they include their merit scholarship offers with the admission letter?) It’s a private CSS NCP Profile school, so need-based aid is unlikely, to put it kindly.

Congratulations @latichever and @erlanger! Wonderful news!

Awesome news, @latichever and @erlanger. Congrats!

@skieurope, congratulations on the early admit AND being one and done!

@mdcmom, All-Eastern-!!wow! That would have been so much more important to me than ANY college decision and it’s a wonderful, wonderful accomplishment.

D received good news from her early school and she is thrilled and we are all relieved that the mind boggling number of essays waiting to be written won’t actually have to be completed.

Congratulations @3g3c!

My D is in at dream school. EA, so we need to see the financial aid package but I am absolutely thrilled for her.

Congratulations @suzy100! YAY!

Congrats @3girls3cats & @suzy100!

With all these great acceptances, I’m half tempted to OK D’s 1st choice and be done with it! To be honest, I’ve already started shopping for some dorm stuff and I think that is waaay more fun than sitting on pins and needles waiting for acceptances - even if we have to do it from the ship!

@IlMom13579, it surely feels that way right now and when there’s a clear number 1 choice, I’d be saying heck yeah we are done! But I’ve been on both sides of this and for those who are in for the long haul, it’s a lot of fun in the spring when there are choices (and $$ awards) to compare and the fun of hearing from several schools takes the sting out of any denials. It’s almost worth the long, wintry wait.

Congrats to @3girls3cats‌ and @suzy100‌ on the fantastic news! It’s wonderful to come here and read so much good news today :)

@suzy100‌ Congrats to your D!! Such great news for so many this week. I love it!!!

Question - for ED acceptances, if your child applied for FA, did you get any FA info?

If not, did they say when you would get it?

So I’m paranoid he won’t get in (will know tomorrow evening), but also paranoid he can’t accept if they don’t give us FA details right away.

Is it okay for him not to accept (if he is accepted) until the FA package is revealed? Or do they want a student to put down a deposit, rescind all applications, and THEN if the FA package appears and is not sufficient, the student is supposed to regroup and apply to other schools?

@rhandco, I have no personal experience but I don’t see how an ED school would require you to accept before you get the FA package.

D just heard that a school she had been accepted to is giving her a huge scholarship! It is not her first choice, but it is now affordable. She is waiting on a couple more EAs with merit aid. She has two RDs where she has appiled or been nominated for big scholarships, so no decisions until everything is in. But she knows she has a small LAC that she likes and now can afford to attend. We are all thrilled. <:-P

Congratulations @mtrosemom! That’s wonderful news! :)

@3girls3cats - Thanks for the pep talk for those of us who have a long wait before things get sorted out. It does help.

And congrats to all those celebrating acceptances, choral selections, and scholarships. It really is nice to read all the good news.

Most people turning down ED admission claim financial hardship for not having gotten a large enough aid package. This is usually the reason most cited for turning an admission down.

OTOH, many of the schools are suspected to defer people with a need to RD to get a better picture of all the qualified people with need in order to make sure they distribute their money with a clear picture.

What a great day to be on this list! Congratulations to all for the acceptances, scholarships, accomplishments, et al.

I love the info on MIT’s release dates and times.
I have started thinking that in the same way it seems some colleges give priority to students who apply ED or EA, I wonder how many students start giving priority to colleges who will just give them an earlier answer. Most of the schools D is applying to will give her an answer, or at least something (likely letter -or not, scholarship notice-or not) fairly early. Only one will not send any info until April 1st. I can imagine scenarios where those late notification schools could get dropped from prospective students’s lists.

Congratulations @mtrosemom, @3girls3cats, and @suzy100! Love this good news.

Good news is starting to trickle into D’s class as well. Lots of good wishes. Some disappointments too. D was jealous of those ED acceptances but acknowledged she had no clear favorite. And the disappointments have been sobering. I think it’s beginning to feel real.
