That’s awful! I’m glad he’s ok and hope the police find them.
He came home and told me we needed to call 911. He’s a lot bigger than they were, so they may have decided that at least a couple of them could have gotten hurt. This strikes me as a group that’s eventually going to jump on the wrong person and end up with some of their number seriously hurt.
I hope he’s fine @mstomper . I’m so angry for your son.
How scary @mstomper - for DS & you. Hope they track them down & they are held accountable for their actions!
Stay safe!!
I’m so sorry for your son’s experience. How scary! Hope they catch them! @mstomper
Oh no! Good luck with everything, @mstomper!!
@mstomper - Wow, that is awful! I am glad you were able to put some fear in the culprits.
That is really awful, and scary. I’m so glad your son is alright. And I hope the police find them.
I took some patio chairs to Goodwill yesterday. My younger son wanted to shop. Oh my. There was so much of the college list there. I got a brand new with tags iron for $5. A Brita water pitcher for $2. Stainless flatware was 18 cents a piece. A couple of cereal bowls, plain white as he wanted, for $1. A brand new small Cuisinart stainless colander for $4. OXO brand cooking utensils were 4/$5 and still had tags. All stuff I would have purchased anyway.
My son already purchased a stainless two door Whirlpool fridge AND a microwave for $95. The fridge was manufactured in 2015. It is the same one we were going to buy for $199. He’s enjoying cold water and soda in his room all summer.
He already has a PBTeen duvet and sham I got for $59 NWT from eBay. Plain navy blue. We got it for a summer college program last summer. Pottery Barn has outlets and there are folks on eBay who sell their finds, unused, with tags.
I also purchased a 1" memory foam twin XL topper from Big Lots for $18. They had a ton of them in the store and you can get them on line too. It is plain foam and will go under a cotton mattress pad he got last summer. Every public college in VA that we visited had the same mattresses. They are heavy bricks covered with thick naugahyde. I suppose it’s to prevent bed bugs but mattress pads are definitely needed to cushion them.
@OspreyCV22, great finds!
@mstomper how scary! I hope they catch the kids and I’m so glad your son is ok!
@OspreyCV22 I just love our local Goodwill flagship! They get overstocks from many places-Target and Walmart are two of them, so lots of new items. If we weren’t flying, I’d have stocked up there. Instead, I have mapped out the nearest Goodwill to D’s school, along with the regular retail places.
D space bagged some more things today. FYI in case anyone needs to know: Two full sets of thick cotton towels fit in one medium space bag and weighs 5 lbs. Two sets of twin/XL sheets, one cotton, one microfiber, also fit in one space bag and also weighs 5 lbs. We’ll put those in the “shoe bag” and it will still only weigh 35 pounds. Pretty much all that’s left are her warm weather clothes-what she’s wearing this summer, and a few very flat/lightweight decorating items, plus her electronics, which will go in her backpack.
There were so many things being collected at the bottom of the stairs in D’s dorm. We left a very nice small fridge we bought brand new for her there among other nice things we could not take back to texas on a plane. Someone left a very nice futon. D left her bike randomly somewhere on campus to be claimed by anyone.
I am not sure who collects these items that are given up and where they go. I was kind of unhappy about leaving such a nice fridge with no designated future owner and not knowing if it would ever be owned by another student and I would have preferred the school to have a program where they collect things and give it students on full FA or something like that the following year.
@mstomper I’m relieved to read that your son was not physically harmed.
@mstomper what a frightening experience! So glad your DE wasn’t harmed. I hope the police find the attackers!
Just 8 more weekends with D16 home.
“Just 8 more weekends with D16 home.”
We leave for CO in 43 days. I’m trying not to think about the move-in logistics and already plotting for S19 to go to school within a 6 hour drive (he’s much more likely to just go where some of his friends are going and to choose a major that’s offered by most schools - he doesn’t have the same desire to flee this place!)
I’m barely seeing D so far this summer - she might be around in the evening if she has to work early, but if not, then she’s out with friends pretty much all the time. She only just got her first paycheck from her summer job today and I guess she’ll only be getting 3 more. Her reaction to getting $350 was so cute - her last job paid minimum wage and was only 10 hours per week.
Planning some major dorm shopping for this weekend. Pulled up the “what to bring” list and am deciding between outlets or Target, BBB, Costco, etc. May end up being a bit at each. The list feels short and long at the same time. $-) :bz :!!
We’re lucky in that all of the above are close to both home and D’s college. I even scouted out where the Goodwill in college town is located! So far we have bought at several places, and online. Target is putting out the college-specific stuff a bit at a time here. We saw a cool thing the other day-it’s a pocket storage thing like those hanging shoe holders, only it fits on the side of a dorm fridge. Genius, if you ask me. Dormify (online) is still having a clearance for some of last year’s patterns, and those XL sheets are only $10. At least some are all cotton, and very soft.
@sseamom: On Dormify: My daughter is now looking at linen prices for college. She may be in a better frame of mind to appreciate Dormify now than she was a little while ago.
One of my friend’s D was able to access her AP scores through the GT website. Not so for UF yet.
