Congrats on the enjoyable orientation @carolinamom2boys and @readingclaygirl ! Hold on to that and do not let any doubt enter your mind.
Had a surreal visit to the pediatrician today for the last well child\college physical. DS went in alone but I was there for DDās visit. I kept having flashbacks to when he fit in that scale, couldnāt reach the exam table without a stool, picked stickers out of the drawer, etc. The Dr came to speak to me afterwards in the waiting room and I was not sure if I should hug him or shake his hand so I did neither. I knew I would cry if I did. I guess when you are taller than the dr it may be time to move on. At least I did not cry until after I took DS and DD home and I was in the car alone going to the officeāand again now, of course. :((
Thank you @Cheeringsection I get that emotion. Iāve been in same pediatrics practice since I was a baby, in the same building, with the same giant goldfish(literally that fish has been around for atleast a decade).
Yes, @mommdc, I learned today that we have the same bill setup that you mentioned. I guess I was already set up as an authorized user, so today the full bill was available and I could access it to pay when we are ready (when is anyone ever ready to pay a full semesterās cost???)
We need the bill to submit for our prepaid tuition plan, but the bill is due on Aug. 1 so thatās sooner than I think weāll receive the prepaid refund. Oh well, at least we know exactly how much we have to shell out this month.
Tomorrow S gets his room assignment, so thatās something to look forward to, then we take him and his HS friend for a small weekend trip to a lake. They are going to schools on opposite ends of our state, so theyāll be about 6 hours apart in just about a month. Right now they live less than 1/2 mile apart, so just a bit of a change!
My mom is an access user on my account too and she is really grieving the loss of control and not being able to access everything
Oh @Cheeringsection :(( I completely get that feeling. Weāve had the same Ped. since D16 was born and I often look at the baby scale and remember my little peanut laying on it.
We also received our Ebill and I noticed an error on it after H had requested a disbursement from the 529. So, weāve over payed!
No @Undercovermom1 you have not overpaid, just prepaid for the next expense!
Thatās what H said @Cheeringsection. Just apply it to next semester!
Ahhh, remember when this thread was all abuzz with everyone getting their acceptances? I think I enjoyed that more than the arrival of the ebills.
@Waiting2exhale I love your story! D has definitely created a personal style out of clothing one doesnāt find in any one ānameā store. And itās always a thrill when she can create a whole set of clothes from āfoundā pieces for less than one item of clothing would cost at a department store. Iāll bet your D will wear the things she found today with style at least until she outgrows them.
If your Ds ever find a brand/store/ designer they like, take a look at eBay. A lot of people sell clothes there and you can filter by size, style and condition. It is usually a season or two old but I have found great deals there.
I could not resist the urge to put her name on everything! Each year sheās attended some activity/camp were weāve had to put her name on everything and it was just instinctive. Took all the school supplies out of the rapping and put them into ziplock freezer bags (different sizes) and labeled the bags. She can reuse the bags. Her bed is high enough that the storage bins we purchased from Walmart fit right under her bed (donāt have to purchase any risers).
Got a few of her suits and dress shirts dry cleaned for professional events. The Elliott School and Honors Program have a few of those each semester.
@Waiting2exhale - duly noted! Iām actually at proportions Iām happy with, and in fact I believe that the job of clothes is to fit the body and not vice versa (which explains the tailoring). Nonetheless, I was blessed with proportions that benefit from darker wash jeans if oneās goal is the generally accepted notions of āflatteringā which again, I do not impose on anyone!
Dorm assignment: DS got his, and his roommates, who seem nice! But that room is SMALL. And, is two floors up from the bathroom. My sister, who attended H with similar layouts, said, "think of it as a vertical hallway and itās fine.
Glad to hear about all the positive orientation experiences! We leave for orientation on Sunday. Iām hoping S16 has a good experience. Iāll feel less anxious about dropping him off next month knowing that he is comfortable there.
I have also tried looking for a business outfit for my D but have had trouble finding anything that fits. Anyone have experience shopping for business clothes for very small women? Where do you go? The only place I can find that seems to carry small sizes is Ann Taylor and I really donāt want to spend that kind of money at this point. She is a size zero petite. While there are some advantages to being this small, clothes shopping is not one of them. Weāre lucky if we can find a single thing for her to try on sometimes, nevermind having the fun of figuring out her style. We recently had to buy her a pair of plain black business pants. It took 4 stores to find something that wouldnāt fall down (apparently many business pants donāt have belt loops anymore so couldnāt even count on a belt to hold them up), and then they still needed to be hemmed. She didnāt like the style but we bought them anyway because, well, they didnāt fall down and that was key.
Congrats to everyone on good orientation experiences and dorm assignments. We are all progressing down the path to move in day fairly quickly.
@me29034 Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, J. Crew and Banana Republic often have sales and clearances. They also have outlet stores. Maybe you can find one nearby? Express also has small sizes for business clothes for pants, blouses, etc. Sign up for the email list so you can find out about sales and get coupons.
@me29034 Try outlet malls. A lot of the more expensive stores will have an outlet that makes them more affordable. Also if she is super petite and finds things she likes she can always have them altered. By purchasing a few more classic pieces that wonāt go out of style it may be worth the expense.
Thanks @ryang1207 and @livinginLA I hadnāt thought of outlet malls. We donāt have any really convenient to us so it would be a hike to go to one but we may need to do that. Express wonāt work for us. She likes their clothes but even their smallest size is too big.
