I must say, @HappyFace2018 (after looking at your purchase) it always gives me the heebie jeebies that I get an email from walmart about buying a folding cart!
Thatâs strange they assign beds yet donât know which is which! @psychmomma
Back in the old days, my roommates and I just talked it out. I ended up on the top bunk every year-which was fine, I didnât care. There are no bunks in Dâs dorm and the beds seem to be either down the middle of the room or against the walls in an âLâ shape. Iâm guessing D and her roommate have talked about it. Sheâs had her bed in every possible configuration at home so I donât know that it will matter to her.
Iâve never heard of assigned beds, but that sure would take the hassle out of choosing!
At my college the beds are in the same position and you can move them higher or lower.
@bookmom7 Wait, you got an email from Walmart? Have you ever purchased from Walmart online?
D13 says the RA will clarify which side of the room is side A or side B. She said there might be a sticky note on the closet/desk/bed too.
So I just had a discussion with my sweet girl about pledging a sorority at GW. Since she knows how I operate (i.e. be ready to answer questions with substantive answers) she was ready. Since the semester dues are roughly $500-$700, she countered my jaw drop with this âMom, do you know that some colleges have semester dues that are more than $3,000 and housing is not included!â My response âWell, shut the front door!â
If D plans to join a sorority, she will do it with her own money. We do not have $3,000 extra in our budget for something like that. If it is an academic sorority with lower fees, weâd consider it, otherwise, nope.
No sororities here- the college has no Greek life. Not that I would join one anyway.
Well, yâall itâs been a year since the Common App opened for our kiddos! Wow, so much water under the bridge in this 12 months, and what a delight to follow so many journeys here!!
The Month of Dread has arrived. Are we truly ready ? :((
@sseamom I here you! Sheâd already obtained the information some time ago but had not had an opportunity to âmeetâ with me about it because sheâs been out of town working for two months. Her proposal addressed her âskin in the gameâ as well as how her interest in several organizations fall in line with her University Honors Program requirements (which could lead to several scholarships and research grant opportunities).
GW has academic and philanthropic organizations within its Panhellenic community. Being the most politically active school in the nation, it also has numerous political organizations.
I didnât expect anything less from her because she knows whatâs expected of her and she was very active throughout high school. So proud my sweet girl
Congrats to you and your done @bookmom7 ! I am glad you will have those 3 weeks with him.
@sseamom we understand her! Please know that we all support her.
@carolinamom2boys No! Not ready!
@allboyz I think that if the beds are not assigned, it is first come, first serve.
@psychmomma Iâd guess bed A is on the left when you walk in?
@carolinamom2boys I just canât believe it.
I know this may sound odd (or maybe not) but I feel an overwhelming sense of âthank God, Iâve done something rightâ watching her prepare to head off to college. I remember when she was about six months old and I put her on my bed for her nap. Weâd pushed the bed all the way up against the wall and put plenty of pillows around the edges to protect her from falling out of the bed. As I tiptoed around the house for an hour tiding up I peaked in the room and didnât see her in the bed! I completely freaked running around the bedroom and house looking for her. All of a sudden God said âlook under the bedâ. There my sweet girl was fast asleep (I could reach her and see she was breathing). She had fallen between the wall and the bed because we hadnât pushed it up against the wall enough. I laid there and watched her sleep for a few minutes then moved the bed to get her outâŠâŠafter that she slept in her crib.
I know that itâs by the grace of God that she has come this far and He has used us to paint the foundation on the beautiful canvass of her life. I am about to retire after almost 30 years but no success, IMHO, comes close to the success of seeing my child navigate her way through the peaks and valleys of life.
Her being an only childâŠthis is my only opportunity to get this right. I pray all which has been done to build a strong foundation of faith, accountability, caring for others over self and truly loving herself will sustain her throughout! Amen! [-O<
I want to thank all of you who helped with shopping suggestions for my Dâs business style clothing. We went shopping yesterday and found a nice outfit at Express. We went to a larger mall which has better selection than the small mall near our house and she was able to find the smaller sizes there. I never would have thought to try that if not for the helpful people here.
When I look at Dorm Mountain now, all I see is Mount Doom! :((
@sseamom - I am focusing my positive energy on you for a safe trip tomorrow, a lot of fun, and a successful and smooth move-in for your D. ;
@carolinamom2boys NO we are NOT ready! I just want to wrap her up and keep her here, but of course, she is ready to be âgrown and flownâ.
We leave 24 hours from now. Iâm about to go run to the store so I can get whatâs needed to make french toast-her request for a last hot breakfast at home. Then sheâs spending a couple of hours with her favorite auntie, who is also her praise dance leader and was her first care giver. Then she attacks what has become âdorm living roomâ because there is stuff spread ALL OVER as she sorts and repacks (again).
Thank you all for your support. You have no idea how much it helps.
DD spent last night sorting her closet trying to put possible outfits together and determining what she takes with her. Letâs see how all those dresses and shorts work in Boston
16 days until our Boston trip.
20 days until we leave!
@sseamom I think I have âDorm Living/Dining Roomâ! Safe travels to you and your family! Stay strong!
