@BeeDAre It’s so strange you posted about your D’s roommate situation because a girl I’m friendly with from my college just found out the 3rd roommate she was assigned TODAY transferred. I was actually the bearer of bad news because i know the girl she was assigned-she went to my high school and used to live in my neighborhood and I had seen her and her parents last weekend and they talked about her college choice in detail. I just feel bad for the other girl- she’s pretty upset
We are as ready as we.can ever be. Move in tomorrow. We can start as early as 8 am but will shoot for 930 or.so. it’s been a long week and we’re tired but ready. D is on the phone with her BFF telling her about her excitement. Her roommate is on the way here from Mississippi. Wish us luck everyone!
Itunes crisis. Everything is on our home PC, but of course D will need access at school. At first I was going to set up family sharing, but I don’t think that gives her access to all the CD’s she’s imported here. Been online with Apple Support trying to get it figured out. I guess I’ll see if I can move the library to an external drive that she can access from her laptop. Exciting Friday night here!
Good luck @sseamom ! I hope it all hoes smoothly.
My DD thinks I am losing my mind. She might be right. I nearly dissolved into tears when I realized that the gallon of chocolate milk I was putting in the grocery cart has a date the same as DS’s move in date. It might be the last one I buy until he comes home for a visit. :(( I am fine most of the time but that one snuck up on me.
Good luck @sseamom I too hope things go smoothly with move in. Let us know how it goes.
@Cheeringsection Trust me you are not losing your mind. I can totally relate to what you are going through. I have just been pushing down those emotions and piling on the “to do’s” to keep myself from going in that direction. Hence the laser focus and obsession with getting a grey utility cart from IKEA in St. Louis! LOL. Probably not the best mentality in the long run but in the short run, I am for once taking the easy way out. I just end up not being able to sleep and having those moments at 2:30 am when no one is up and can see me tear up.
@lvmjac1 thanks! I am not sleeping great either. Too many to do lists in my head. Took DD out yesterday shopping for HS clothes and makeup. She wears a small bit of makeup already but we stopped and got some specific advice at one of the counters so that she will be ready for pictures and the homecoming dance. Pictures are taken on the first day.
I don’t know much about Itunes, but can’t you keep the songs on the Cloud? We only have an ipad and ipod but it has the same Itunes account so I think both devices can access the songs and apps we have purchased.
As for my kids, they like Spotify, it’s free or the premium is half price for students I think.
My D said she can make specific playlists like for working out/relaxing, etc.
Good luck @sseamom!!!
D16 found me last night about 11 and said “I made a calendar of when everyone leaves (HS) and I am the last to go. what am I going to do?” I questioned her a bit more…the last by about 48 hours, lol! Her Prom Date friend left yesterday morning, he was the first to go (well not including the guy who left in June for the Air Force Academy) and she met him for coffee on Wednesday, so I think reality is really hitting home. It is always easier in her mind to be the first one to leave and not the last man standing.
@labegg One of my best friends is last by almost a month (quarter system) and she hates the fact she gets to see her friends leave one by one.
Thank you so much @BeeDAre :x
When she meets GW alums from Indiana they are so excited to meet and share their GW experience and how their experience catapulted their careers.
Her dorm experience should be interesting. As a University Honors student she had the option of living in the honors dorm on the Mount Vernon campus or living in Thurston Hall at Foggy Bottom. She chose Thurston because of the six (she will live with five other young ladies) and its just closer to everything including the State Department and White House. All incoming freshmen have to take one class on the Mount Vernon campus. Since several of her honors classes are on Mount Vernon (as well as the honors program office and her adviser) she’ll be spending more a little more time there. The VEX (GW to Mount Vernon Transit) goes to/from Foggy Bottom every 15 minutes. My hubby and I road the VEX several times and it was great (especially the drivers who kept us laughing the entire time).
@mommdc We have been using Spotify for a few years now. Being able to access any type of music off/online it awesome and you don’t have to take up so much storage on your phone. My sweet girl and I also purchased additional storage through ICLOUD. She also used SoundCloud and Tidal for music. She listens to everything from old jazz to EDM. I have learned so much from this young lady…well I’m crying now :((
Do guys use those armchair pillows to sit up in bed? I’ve obviously lost my mind and think the more stuff I buy him the more successful his transition will be!
@psychmomma I don’t know if people use those anymore but the other night my mom talked about the one she had in college-right down to every detail.
@psychmomma We bought one for my son which is more masculine looking in brown distressed" leather" at Walmart. My son like to game and read in bed. BB and B also had a wedge , but the colors were more feminine.
@psychmomma I just bought extra pillows for my S - a total of 2 standard and 1 king. Easier to move than the armrest things (my sister used to call them “husbands”?!? way back) - and multipurpose.
Yes, my D got a backrest pillow, great for studying and watching Netflix in bed.
@mommdc, since she puts music on her phone from the PC, the rep acted like Itunes Match/using the cloud might not be the best option for her. Things didn’t exactly work out last night, so it’s round 2 of phone support right away this morning. Spotify sounds like a nice option. I may just have to wait for her to get to school where others will tell her that. Because, you know–we don’t know much.
@HappyFace2018 GW has such a beautiful campus! We were just strolling around the Foggy Bottom area our last trip. DC is such a great city.
If anyone lives where it’s tax free weekend this weekend or coming up–cosmetics are included. We’re heading out to get my girl all stocked up.
@LexieAnn In our state, so are wedding dresses. How’s that for adding more stress to the mix?
I bought a faux suede gray backrest thingy. I had one back in the day @readingclaygirl and I could describe mine in detail too! I also got the clamp on tray for the bedside and the 15 ft surge protector. BBB 20% off whole order is dangerous. Glad that’s over!
Next up, tennis balls and water bottles.
Oh no, not wedding dresses yet!
@LexieAnn, I thought the whole idea of the Itunes platform was to share between different Apple devices?
Does the PC have bluetooth? Can she transfer the songs to the phone via Bluetooth?
But it might take up a lot of storage.
Amazon prime includes music too I think.
Yes, I’m sure other students will be able to help her.
