Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Don’t just ‘like’ your story @sseamom - love it! From everything you have shared, no doubt she will survive!

She did call, and she didn’t say she survived, but she is having fun and likes her classes so far. And yes, I think Ms. F was a huge influence on why D wants to teach.

It doesn’t look like they do rent bike racks, but here is the link to all the things they DO rent in all the states. I hope it helps someone. My older D rents from them every time she and her friends go on one of their adventures. And their rental equipment is in top shape.

I got excited re: REI rentals because we became members last year, but no love for NJ it seems… :frowning:

Can someone please tell me the secret to receiving BBB coupons? Back when we moved 5 years ago we regularly received BBB coupons in the mail but over the past 2 years we have received -0-. I diligently signed up for a BBB online account last fall, still have not received 1 coupon. We are not receiving them randomly in the mail anymore and they are not in the Sunday newspaper. I have asked family and friends to save them for me so I have a few to apply towards our purchase next week but not enough to cover the entire purchase. I am guessing BBB only applies the coupons to the lowest cost item? (So that stupid 3" foam topper that D18 swears she can’t live without is going to cost the full $199 and the food storage container that is $3.99 will be 20% off, lol) I did run across a coupon in my recent Southern Living Magazine.

Seriously, what is the secret? And how do you get the coveted 20% of everything coupon?

Bedding 101. Someone posted it here before, but I can’t find it. Is mattress topper goes into bed bag mattress cover or on top of it? What is the preferred type of topper?

@Ballerina016 It’s bed bug cover, then mattress topper, then mattress cover (if you’re using one), then the sheets. I think most people have been getting the 2" or 3" foam toppers.

Topper on top of mattress (with bed bug cover on it), then mattress pad, then sheets.

@labegg, I have seen them in magazines. Better Homes and Gardens and such

It’s often easier for the one leaving, than the ones staying behind.

Thank you. So topper doesn’t go inside of bed bag cover along with the mattress? Here is where I got it wrong.

@labegg I think you can use the coupon on whichever item you want - at least that’s been my experience. If not, you can always split the order - buy the topper by itself.

Do your neighbors get the coupons? I have a BBB nearby and get the mailers at least once or twice a month. I don’t think I had to sign up for anything. They just come with the circulars. I was surprised to get the 20% off your entire purchase shortly after people here started posting about it. I wondered how they knew we had a student going to college?

@Ballerina016 The bedbug cover goes over the mattress only to protect your belongings from whatever is in the mattress. (Don’t really want to think too much about that!)

@RyanG1207 - Oddly, I don’t believe my neighbors have received the mailers either, but friends in other nearby subdivisions do. Which is strange because there is still quite a bit of new home building going on in my subdivision and BBB generally likes to target movers.

I need to scrounge up 10 more coupons and I have a stack of Better Homes and Gardens Mags that I haven’t had time to read yet…I think I will start there!

@labegg They are in First magazine, Southern Living , Coastal Living . You can use as many coupons as you have items. Good luck.

@labegg: Now that you have posted about the 20% coupon not showing up, it will! For some reason, two arrived at my home within two weeks of each other.

(Are the 20% off the whole purchase coupons new? I don’t remember seeing/receiving them when I sent off my first child to college.)

I’ve received 20% off whole purchase twice recently. Suddenly I get the single 20% offs all the time. I wonder if these were triggered by my huge purchase last year of bedding. The coupons have prompted me to stop by the store more often than I normally would.

I had the pleasure of meeting @lvmjac1 for lunch today as she made her way to Clemson with her older son. Wish I could meet more of y’all . If you’re ever in SC, let me know .

We just finished move in on Saturday. I forgot my BB&B coupons, but was able to pull one up on my phone - and we were only buying one item. They are good -they always apply them from the most expensive to the least.

I was able to get a 2" foam topper for $47 on Amazon. Remember when looking at toppers - the thicker they are, the harder time you’ll have getting them home. We were amazed at how quickly the topper puffed up when we put it on the bed - not immediate, but pull it out, unpack some other stuff - then finish making the bed.

Many schools have hard plastic coverings around the mattresses already - takes care of bed bugs and other icky stuff

A big difference between a son and a daughter - except for a few hanging dress clothes, all of his clothes fit into an XL LLBean duffle bag. It was heavy - but it was all there. Shoes, coats, bedding all went into large trash bags. Obviously we were driving. It’s much harder for those of you flying to campus.

Remember those rooms are small. We were able to make a run to Target and BB&B for last minute items, but there really wasn’t much. Most things they can get even after we leave!

@carolinamom2boys and @lvmjac1 That is SO nice that two of the parents here met in person!

I am wondering if those of you with tall beanpole/skinny S’s would re-post the best stores to shop for pants that will fit. Hoping to purchase a couple of new pairs of dress pants this week. We need the small waist/longer length combo which is very hard to find. I cannot remember what stores were suggested when this topic came up on this thread earlier in the summer.

S has been working until 10:00 p.m. almost every night this summer, so his schedule and mine have not meshed for a shopping trip until this week. Nothing like waiting until the last minute on my part…he still has a few days of work left, and we leave in 10 days! Hoping to minimize searching, and go RIGHT to the stores that stock the correct sizes.

Thanks for any help!

I have lucked out at Express, JC Penneys , Kohl’s and Macy’s for my skinny son @4kids2graduate .
