@dyiu13 My mom never had a chance to build Nursey Mountain or have a baby shower since we were born 3 months prematurely.
Did our Target and BBB runs. Since we only rented a mid sized car, weāll need two trips to the dorm tomorrow. I was able to get us a late checkout. It is really happening.
Finally piled all of the dorm supplies and clothing by the front door to prepare for the three hour trek tomorrow. Itās been a very emotional day. The worst was reviewing the durable power of attorney and medical power of attorney with DS16 before he leaves tomorrow. Discussing your childās desires regarding life sustaining measures is a truly humbling and emotional task. I held it together until I realized that I needed 2 witnesses to witness our signatures before the notary. I was lucky enough that my two good neighbor friends were at home and willing to do it. DS16 is their pet sitter so it gave him the opportunity to say goodbye which he might have missed in the morning . DS16 has set up a Skype account for me so that is good. I hope to sleep in the car. Iām physically and emotionally exhausted.
@carolinamom2boys Regarding Skype, my sister is trying to help both my mom and me figure out FaceTime.
@readingclaygirl And to think you mom had twins, and needed two of everything and in premie sizes!
@dyiu13 both the sling and baby bjorn were indispensable. Even moreso after S19 was born, when I needed to be hands free to run after D16 who was an early walker. We went through several diaper genies (threw them out when the smell got too bad). The boppy (it was red) was very useful as was the little hammock chair that vibrated. Put that it the bathroom so I could pee or shower, in the kitchen so I could cook. I did get pretty good use out of all my baby accessories. As time went on, I learned that I didnāt have to pack everything for an outing with my babies and that I could get by with a diaper or two, some wipes, a sippy cup and some goldfish tucked inside a large purse.
Good luck to those preparing to move their kids soon and hugs to those that are either on their way or already home.
@dyiu13 never did use that baby bjorn or swing but loved the exersaucer. DS would not be still and contained. Good that those disliked things were shared by family members and were not completely wasted purchases or gifts.
Good luck to all those with move in still to come. Do not forget to carry in your bag of move in essentials yourself so you know exactly where they are. We found them very useful and DS made friends loaning them to his grateful floor mates. I used a reusable grocery bag to carry: door stop, scissors, command hooks, power strips, disinfectant wipes, tape measure, screw driver with changeable bits, tissues, my rain coat, etc. Remember to put your power strips in the outlets, plug in the fan and then put furniture where your DC wants it before unpacking other things. Those dorm rooms feel small and too warm with 6 people trying to unpack.
We moved D in yesterday. She is at a preorienation program now. We will see her again on Monday and meet her roommate so we havenāt done the big good bye yet.
All in all move-in went quite well. Biggest blip was that the school sent out very detailed instructions about where you should park for each dorm - and the garage we were supposed to go to was not open. Thereās a steady stream of traffic trying to turn in and a guy waiving everyone off. But we managed to find a place on the street close by fairly easily. Gotta love parallel parking in a big city when you canāt see out the back window. They have carts for moving things from the cars to the buildings so it was fine. She was completely unpacked by noon. We went to lunch and then stopped at Rite Aid because of course she forgot a couple things. She ended up with plenty of room which really surprised me. I thought we were bringing so much and we had talked about maybe making run to Target or Walmart to get some plastic drawers for under the bed, but we didnāt need them. So if all went pretty well and she seemed very happy.
Best of luck today @carolinamom2boys!
So one of my best friends moves in today and I was texting her last night and it was definitely emotional. We talked about all the feelings and how upset her pets are and how upset mine will be. Itās getting so close.
On our way. Got out the door on time without much room left. DS16 had way more clothes than I thought about because he needed business attire and footwear. Itās going to be a long day .
Good luck and safe travels! @carolinamom2boys
@carolinamom2boys Good luck! We have everything in the rental car and will be at the school in 20 minutes. S got an email back from his roommate last night that he is also moving in today.
Wishing speedy and smooth move-ins @carolinamom2boys and @PAO2008- and any others moving today!
Thanks everyone .
Good luck with the moves @Cheeringsection @carolinamom2boys @PAO2008 and any others I missed!! I havenāt though about baby bjorns and slings and boppies for a long time. We had friends over the other day and I remembered why Iām glad I donāt have small children as my primary responsibility.
@carolinamom2boys Praying for a peaceful and calm day for you and yours [-O<
Good luck @carolinamom2boys ! Hope everything goes smoothlyā¦
All these lasts can be poignant. Katy just had her last day where she has been working for over two years. She was also excited her monthly dues at her yoga studio were perfectly timed with moving. Iāll cross my fingers for no rain with a truck at move-in, but (unfortunately) southern California doesnāt have to worry about that much.
Okay, my computer is wacky (or more truthfully, Iām discombobulated). I meant to post my above comment to a Facebook group I belong to. I have no idea how it manged to post it here!
