Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@lonetreegrad I wouldn’t write this college off. It was not your D’s fault and the admissions person will understand that kids cannot be judged by their parent’s mistakes. Sounds like the interviewer felt it worth while to have the interview. If anything your D will be remembered and that can be a good thing!

@LKonmad Thanks. I hope that you are right. She worked so hard for those 4 application essays.
I googled the name of the place and I assumed it was the right one. I really hope that the interviewer is understanding. I feel so terrible that I made such a mistake. She is still there. Hopefully, the interview goes well.

@lonetreegrad Stuff happens. We all make mistakes. I don’t think this minor problem will overshadow the rest of her application. Read this link bellow. This kid still got into Yale.

@Ballerina2016 LOL!! That is the funniest post I have ever seen. I was sitting here worried trying to not cry and read that post. I almost fell off my chair laughing!!

D’s interview went well. She said that the interviewer was super nice about the whole thing and also bought her coffee. She seems happy that it is over. @Ballerina2016 Thanks again for the link. I also showed it to D. It definitely made her feel better. She is sending the link to several friends too.

Grrrr. Here's the note from college board. D is going to contact the school and see what they think. Not much we can do about it now.

Dear Student,

Processing of SAT® score report orders placed on or after Oct. 14 is taking longer than expected, and your score reports are among a set that have not yet been sent to colleges. This communication is most relevant for students who are using scores to meet immediate deadlines. We are working diligently to deliver all SAT score reports to colleges as soon as possible in order to meet college application deadlines. We will keep you updated on our progress.

In the meantime, we are reaching out to colleges with deadlines of Nov. 1 to make them aware of the circumstances and are encouraging them to be flexible should scores arrive late.

For colleges that allow self-reporting on their applications, you can view your scores online and provide them on the application.

We recognize the importance of timely score delivery and apologize for the inconvenience.

The College Board

I’m glad your D’s interview went well. That sounds stressful! @lonetreegrad

@readingclaygirl Thanks. Although it was my fault, it definitely was a great experience for her to deal with a difficult situation. Hopefully, the interviewer would write a good report about her.

@MuggleMom – Two years ago the common app people installed a completely new software system. It was a mess. Besides all sorts of glitches, the system couldn’t handle the volume of applications submitted for the Nov 1 ED deadline. Many schools immediately announced that they were moving their deadlines later into November. I suspect that the school(s) will be forgiving, but your daughter should definitely call (and get the name of the person with whom she speaks).

This is what I don’t understand: Why should a human be at all involved in sending these scores? Getting these scores sent should be like ordering from Amazon. Once you click ‘send’ and pay by credit card, you should hear a "woosh’, as the scores are immediately sent electronically. I’ve always suspected that the reason that the CB does this process so obtusely is so that they can offer a ‘rush’ or ‘expedited’ option, for which they can charge extra.

@AsleepAtTheWheel , I’ve been wondering the same thing. If applications go straight to the college, why not scores? I agree with your suspicion that it may be to charge more for “rush” service.

I love what U of Virginia says. UVa EA results come out a little late, so they don’t need the official score immediately, I guess. Following is posted today…

  1. Rushing Scores If you didn't send your scores already and you are applying under Early Action, send your scores ASAP using the standard delivery option. At this point, it is not worth $31 to rush your scores. We have enough files to read to keep us occupied until ETS can get those scores to us.You do not have to rush scores at this point.

First quarter report cards came out today. Last year when DS16 came to me and told me that he wanted to take 5 AP classes this year, I was extremely concerned. The most that he had taken at once was 2 last year . He was a little late to the AP game, but he felt confident and wanted to challenge himself . I agreed , but I have been holding my breath since school started. I watched last year while some of the smartest kids in his school tanked their GPA by overextending themselves. He had a little bit of a rocky start , but his hard work paid off with 5 As and 1B. I’m so proud of him. While a lot of his classmates decided to take an easy schedule, he took the most rigorous schedule his schedule would allow, and he’s doing great . Thanks for letting me brag . There’s some very ambitious students on this thread. They’ve got a great future ahead of them.

@carolinamom2boys Congratulations to you and your DS.

Thanks @lonetreegrad

@carolinamom2boys – The rigor of an applicant’s senior schedule is something that adcomms pay a lot of attention to. Of course it helps if the applicant does well. Your boy is to be commended.

@carolinamom2boys That is awesome! Kudos to him.

Thanks everyone.

Congrads to your DS @carolinamom2boys !

Glad the interview went well @lonetreegrad .

DS just hit submit on his 2 applications due 11/1! The last 2 are nearly ready as well but are not due until 12/1 so I will proof them this weekend.

@lonetreegrad I am really glad to hear your D’s interview went well. Mishaps will happen, what is important is that the interviewer was kind and considerate enough to make adjustments!

@carolinamom2boys so happy for your S for taking a challenging schedule, working hard and having the excellent grades to show he can do it! That looks great to prospective colleges!

Thanks @Cheeringsection . Everyone’s moving right along. A lot of our families should start hearing word very soon. Lots of choices would be a great holiday gift.
