Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

I think colleges are losing their mind as well. DD just got email addressed “Dear Mathew”

I’m glad I had S have his SAT scores sent to Temple earlier in the week. Hopefully they won’t be too late for him to be admitted EA. I encouraged him to get his application in early, but for some reason he was resistant. Way back in September he told me it was almost finished. If everything doesn’t end up in order he’ll just have to wait.

Ok, I just need to verify. If the EA app is due 11/1, he has until midnight on 11/1 to get the apps submitted, correct? It’s not midnight on Halloween. That’s how it was when DD applied, and I want to make sure it hasn’t changed.

Not that I’m advocating waiting until 11/1, but I’m not the one hitting the submit button.

@Ballerina2016 "Do you put summer activities for the summer between 11th and 12th grade under 11th or 12th grade? I know for UCs it is 11th, since they are not consider 9th or 12th grade for admission. What about other schools? "

Not sure anyone responded to you about your post. I was trying to figure out what happened with D’s interview!! D had 2 summer of lab research. Right after Sophomore year and right after Junior year. She listed the one after Sophomore year as 10th grade and after Junior year as 11th grade. Not sure if they were correct, but I don’t think it makes a difference when they were exactly done.

@Almondjoy1 I found this on several college websites: “The application deadline for Early Action is November 1 at 11:59 p.m.”
Of course, they don’t recommend students waiting until that time to submit their applications.

@lonetreegrad Thank you. Probably it does not make a big difference. It is just that my DD attended a summer research program after junior year and continue working on her research during this school year. So I do not know if she should mark both 11 and 12 grade if the summer program after 11th grade considered for 11th grade.

@Almondjoy1 Remember that this is for EDT. We are here on the west coast have to submit 3 hours earlier.

@Ballerina2016 In that case, I would add both 11 and 12 grades. She wasn’t a senior yet during summer, so that is 11th grade and she is now a senior and still working there.

Good reminder. I didn’t even think about the time difference!

Thanks, guys. I am pretty sure the school contact just blew D off. I just sent her where LK says to look, but we’ll follow up with the CB.

Thanks guys. DD actually did submit an app at 11:56 pm on a deadline date. Or so she says. I wouldn’t know–I was outside in the snow hyperventilating. Hoping to avoid that this time around.

Can anyone explain to me how to find out if scores my D sent in mid October were sent or still pending? I cannot seem to find that information on CB’s website.

@Ivmjac1 This is from @Ballerina2016 in an earlier post.
“Log on to the “scores” page of the SAT. You should see the entirety of your testing history with the SAT here. In the section where all your scores are shown, there’s something right at the top of that. It’s labeled “See sent scores”. Click on that, and you’ll be able to see the status of your score reports.”

@lonetreegrad & @Ballerina2016 Thanks a bunch. I missed it previously and with everyone discussing the delay, I thought we’d better check on and sure enough many of her scores that were supposed to be sent are delayed!

@sseamom just talked to S. He said that the actual test info didn’t show up on the CB site until late. He thinks it showed up last week but cannot remember exactly. Perhaps they are still getting the info online? He also said that he signed up on the CB site with a few waver from the school, so this is more likely a CB issue, rather than a school issue.

Thanks, LK. This whole thing is giving me a headache. All the kids, even those who haven’t taken any SAT before this, should have a CB log in since they all took the PSAT last year in the same fashion. So someone, somewhere, is missing some critical information about how they can see and send scores.

I can’t believe how incompetent CB is. First the 5 minute mistake in June, then the delay on the 22nd in regards to students finding out their test scores, now all the scores that are pending, and the fact they did not send S Bio E scores with his free score reports. At least those colleges have later deadlines. The next deadline we are facing is November 30th. I just hope his Bio E is sent along with the scores to his early action college. On the CB site where it says the scores are pending it has it listed to be sent, so hopefully we will be okay. On another note, S has already submitted his app for EA.

This is another reason to have kids finish all their SAT/ACT tests junior year.

I have a question. What to do if test scores were sent a month ago, but school claims not receiving them. Do we have to order them again?

@mstomper Read on admissions tweet that Temple knows Sat delays and there will be no penalty for scores provided late…

@Themommymommy – I found that note from the UGA blog very interesting. I cannot imagine how these admission offices can process so many applications. Last year UCLA received about 112,000 applications. With two essays per application that’s almost a quarter-million essays. Do they all get read? Again, I can’t imagine.

@Mysonsdad – I agree with you regarding the unbelievable incompetence of the College Board. I find it incredible, per the UGA note (the only place I’ve seen it), that they would revamp their ‘score format and delivery system’ in the third week of October, as opposed to sometime in the spring or summer when there are far fewer scores being sent out. Undoubtedly all sorts of glitches will arise when they start the new SAT reasoning tests early next year. I guess a lot of kids will forego the unknown (new) SAT and take the known ACT. Not that the ACT people, with their inability to score their October test, are any better.

S’s SAT on scores sent on october 28th.

@Almondjoy1 …out hyperventilating in the snow! I chuckled at your reference, definitely humorous, but also a great reflection on how insane and stressful this is to most of us parents.

@AsleepAtTheWheel 112,000 apps to one college, really? I had no idea any school could possibly get that many apps. I was under the assumption that ivy league schools (some of which get 30K+) got the prize for the most. That is beyond insanity! This “process” has gotten so out of hand in so many ways!

So sorry for everyone’s frustrations regarding test scores, CB, etc…it really isn’t right.
