Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

We have shirts and sweatshirts from most of our tours. I don’t think my son sees any correlate with wearing them and what his choice might be. He regularly wears his Cal tshirt even though he opted not to apply to any UCs (toured UCI and Cal). He also is very fond of his Iona sweatshirt and regularly points out concerns he has with that school.

We had a good talk last night, via text, and he basically set my mind at ease that he really is considering many factors but that he’s also fine waiting until March or April to decide. That’ll be unusual for our neck of the woods, but I am glad he wants to have all of the info he can before deciding. Sometimes I wish we could just know, but truly, he’s done all the work and it’s his job to figure it out now, given the financial parameters we’ve set. I agree with the earlier posts, I’m so excited for him and it’s fun to see him on the verge of a whole new chapter of his life.

@carolinamom2boys, so funny that you mention Christmas ornaments, as I was thinking that’s what I wish I had picked up at the colleges. Our tree is definitely about family history! My daughter received a couple of shirts on the TX/OK visits, but we haven’t purchased anything. With her lengthy college list, it would be ridiculous, lol.

As far as checking portals, I am the secretary here, so am definitely dealing with that aspect. As I’ve mentioned before, this is a complete change from the process with my D13, who was 95% independent on her college app journey. This is working well for D16 though. I can relate to @4kids2graduate’s experience.

Just hoping to find the place that she can be happy and healthy for 4 years (oh, and that we can afford.)

It’s not the waiting that will kill me, it’s going to be the complete crap shoot that occurs when trying to get multiple pieces of information from one end of the country to the other, each sent by entirely different people/places involved in the process!

I just got an email from the regional administrator in the admissions office of D’s top choice school, which had an EA deadline of Dec. 1. Which we allegedly met. According to this email, the HS sent the transcript without a GPA, so he called to have it emailed to him. But the counselor had TOLD my D that she faxed her recommendation, but that was also missing, according to the admissions guy. So now D (she didn’t get this email) is running around trying to make sure the rec is resent. At least we know they have the blasted SAT’s. But I suppose we’ve missed the EA deadline…

There’s an expression for this, but I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to use it on CC. ~X(

No ED shirts to avoid hurting the feelings of kids who did not APPLY?

You can’t be hurt or edgy if you were not in the running.

Well, my DS’s ED results come out in 25 hours…Going to be a long day tomorrow! I wonder if the fact that the t-shirt we bought on that college visit didn’t make it home and then my computer crashed, and included in the photos that I lost were the ones from that visit - I wonder if those are bad omens…hmmmmm…

Hang in there @Suzima! Hoping for good news!!

What if they wear school shirts that have nothing to do with the school they are admitted to?

I got accepted to Russell Sage College! My dream school!
