Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Thank you all so much!!! @BeeDAre @Undercovermom1 @Themommymommy

@readingclaygirl – See, you have fans all across the country. May all your dreams come true!! Congrats.

I think this whole process is harder on those of us that have been the primary “scheduler” for our kids\families. Fitting all those items together into one family calendar is real work. I don’t think anyone will need a new hobby when it is done but you might have the capacity to manage another project. Raising these kids to this point has been a big one!

I understand the whole sensitivity to those that did not get in but I would also hope that my DC could graciously congratulate someone else. He certainly has had to practice that skill each time his team lost a game. It is a life skill.

I hope tomorrow passes quickly for those awaiting decisions.

@readingclaygirl CONGRATS! :slight_smile:

@readingclaygirl Congratulations!

Some of the information that will be shared for ED /EA results might not be true. Same happened at DD’s school for NMSF. One kid told everyone he had 236 on PSAT so he will definitely make a cut off. What do you know happen when school published list of commended students? Yup, he was on the list.

@readingclaygirl Congratulations! I am so happy for you! Do you keep a diary? Write down how happy you feel — it will be nice to read that a year from now, five years from now

@AsleepAtTheWheel @lonetreegrad Thank you

@readingclaygirl Congrats on acceptance to your #1!! Will you commit now or wait until all your acceptances are in? What’s your major?

My son has pajama pants from his #1 and a gimmee shirt from one of its programs. He wears them around the house but says its bad luck to buy/wear shirts until he’s accepted. He needs a couple of neck ties and I was just on the 'net looking at college ties. His brother and sister have lots of shirts and sweats from the top two state of VA universities because of the sports teams.

Two acceptances for S today: Central Florida (expected because of the Top Ten Knights program, but still a nice bit of news) and Florida State.

Thanks! I’m committing! It’s the only place I applied- a CC was my back up. My major is Elementary Education with a concentration in English. @OspreyCV22 I got a free winter hat when I did my overnight that I wouldn’t wear out of the house until/if I got accepted

Congrats @readingclaygirl and @petrichor11 .

About not wearing “school attire” during ED week, I think it may be different depending on geographical location . Here in the South, collegiate wear is typical attire any day of the school year , so I don’t think anyone would think twice about someone wearing a T shirt.

Congrats @readingclaygirl! I love how you know exactly what you want – you’ll go far.

And congrats to your S @petrichor11 We’ll be in Florida for the holidays and might swing by Eckerd, where S16 was accepted. Looking forward to being in my home habitat.

@texaspg My kids are very reluctant to wear any sort of spirit wear, but they will wear random university shirts I bring home from business travel. You have to admit, “University of Copenhagen, since 1479” is pretty cool.

@texaspg – Ultimately the kids can wear anything that they want to wear. It’s a request/recommendation, not a requirement/rule. I don’t know the scoop for the rest of California, but as best I can tell kids at my son’s high school don’t wear much college/spirit gear.

Congrats @petrichor11 !

@petrichor11 CONGRATS! D16 also has an acceptance from UCF. A great financial safety school for NMFs. :slight_smile:

Wow, don’t you all have work to do/Christmas cards to address/Hanukkah candles to light? I guess I’m the only one who can’t handle the holidays and keep up with CC threads.

@Skates76, I agree with you: everyone needs to know about European literature.

@bgbg4us, welcome! The good news is that with the CC system, the numbers don’t change (unless we begin calling them by their college class, which happens sometimes).

CONGRATS, @readingclaygirl! Best news of the day.

Cheers for @cheeringsection: I would prefer for my DD to congratulate her peers if she does not get into her EA school. Picking yourself up, going on, and feeling happy for others is a life skill.

Congrats, @lonetreegrad and @petrichor11. Hope your DD is happy too, Pet11.

Thanks @EastGrad UCF acceptance was from back in October :slight_smile:

Wow! just noticed 9237 posts!!

So how do all of you as parents handle announcements? I have been thinking about how to deal with Facebook. Some parents seem to think it is taboo to announce good news because it might be considered bragging. Others want to share. Will you share good news like top school acceptances online or do you keep that quiet and tell only a few people? How would you give good news?

@eastgrad We lit our candles. My holiday job is done for the evening.

I’ve put every acceptance on Facebook because our family is spread all over the country.
