@EastGrad - that is the problem! Nothing is getting done because I am always reading the CC posts. :-S
I donât have Facebook account so I donât need to think much about it.
@LKnomad I no longer have a Facebook account, so I donât. I probably wouldnât have added the acceptances even if I kept the account open.
Thank you so much!!!@carolinamom2boys @EastGrad @crowlady I truly appreciate the supportive community I have found here.
@EastGrad Thanks for thinking of D. Sheâs kind of grumpy this evening- sheâs wait listed. And has a semester grade bordering on C/D in one of her academic classes, apparently, so hopes of getting off that wait list are probably not excellent.
Iâve said nothing on facebook about Sâs acceptances for now. It seemed awkward, considering.
Oh dear, @petrichor11. I hope it all works out for the best. Hugs and ice cream to DD tonight. And maybe a tutor for the academic class tomorrow? =((
@petrichor11 It is so hard with twins. At least you have a boy and a girl. I have twin nieces and they were constantly being compared to one another .
Congratulations @readingclaygirl and @petrichor11 !!
@LKnomad S doesnât have a Facebook page yet. I donât plan on posting every acceptance, just his final choice.
Yay, @readingclaygirl ! You and my D seem so similar! She is thrilled because her senior project will get to involve writing lesson plans and working with the elementary school next to her HS sometime this spring. Itâs a true calling, teaching.
We have posted acceptances on FB once D has shared them. We too have family all over the place and itâs really the best way to let them all know.
Speaking of FB, heard from a friend today that she think that kids whose parents keep track of their college application process are helicoptering them and that they wonât be able to manage being IN college. I had posted about the most recent fiasco of one college not having the GPA on the transcript or the recommendation letter sent (and I have a copy of the email right here) 2 weeks ago. My response was-YOU try keeping track of 10 colleges, each with a different app price, different requirements, different essay topics, AND whether they get everything as needed on time while being in school with a 3-hour time difference-sometimes having mom and dad step in can be necessary! Itâs not like D hasnât planned out her entire life and keep her entire HS life on trackâŠ
Thank you so much @sseamom !!! You have really been an encouragement. @petrichor11 Congrats to your S and hugs to your D. Being a twin can be rough(Iâm one). I truly hope everything works out for both of them and they end up where they are happy. And regarding Facebook- I donât have one, I did post it to Instagram- the college has a hashtag and you could win a bookstore gift card. My mom wonât post our(my sister and I) acceptances because I donât think she has really figured out how to use Facebook. My dad might but we donât care
When my money is involved my blades will be moving @sseamom . If I could trust all of the other players in the game i.e. GCs, college board, recommenders etc , Iâd be happy to leave DS16 to his own devices. I applaud your efforts.
As far as FB, I can only see announcing where your child decides to go. To me, announcing acceptances to everyone is perceived as bragging. You can let family members know that information without broadcasting to everyone on your FB list by setting up a group for that purpose.
As my mom says @sseamom Just because you are going to college doesnât mean you donât need your mom anymore. Some of this stuff is really tricky. I handled my app myself but I also had 1 not 10 and it was very basic. That doesnât mean my mom hasnât had to step into help- she considers it part of her job
I see your point, @GoldenWest, but I do think it depends on how itâs handled and the general culture of your FB community. And itâs a good way for adults to practice what we preach and be glad for othersâ success. :"> I say adults because I know very few kids who use FB these daysâlike @readingclaygirl, they all Insta.
Woot! D16 learned sheâs granted full tuition for four years at her #1 school. Itâs only an hourâs drive away, too.
NowâŠwe just have to figure out if itâs worth some student debt, all her earnings, plus cash flow from us to pay for room and board costs above what living at home would cost. It might be a good choice, considering that this undergrad program would shave one year off a two-year graduate program at the same small university. AndâŠconsidering college students now have the income-based student loan repayment option, which can be combined with the public service loan forgiveness program, she might just be able to manage to launch as an independent grad.
If course, hubbyâs paid gig is due to wrap at the end of winter, splitting our household income in halfâŠso, thereâs that. Sigh.
@dyiu13 congrats to your daughter. Hope everything works out well for your family .
CONGRADS to your DD @dyiu13 ! That is awesome. I really hope the job situation works out.
Thanks for the cheers @EastGrad.
So sorry to hear about the wait list @petrichor11.
In the good news department, DS has received another acceptance! He is unlikely to receive any scholarship there so it remains a reach, however.
In the bad news department, it hit me tonight that I will be completing a FASFA for at least the next 8 years.
@Cheeringsection Donât forget the CSS profile in addition to the FAFSA for some Private schools. Congrats on the acceptance.
Thanks @carolinamom2boys. No CSS here for at least the next 4 years. Not sure about those last 4.
Congratulations, @dyiu13 ! Hope you can find a way to make things work, and good luck on the job front.
