I agree, @BeeDAre. I find myself making comments like these to my DH, “@AsleepattheWheel” thinks such and such," and “did you know that southseattledaughter did this too”? (DH thinks I’m a little crazy, but he did before and married me anyway.) If we all meet in real life, I think we’ll need to go by our screen names. :">
Anxiously waiting for today’s decisions for those on the list.
Actually, not sure @petrichor11. I used to think of it as “southseas”…cue soundtrack to South Pacific…but then I saw some Washington state references. We’ll have to ask @sseamom.
@anxietyattack77 sorry that it didn’t work out the way your DD was hoping. Here’s to good news next week!
Thank you all. This was a safe bet for admittance. D has another EA announcement next week, but she doesn’t have her hopes and dreams pinned to it. Her most selective school on the list.
In keeping in the trend of how the week is going, S got denied from Stanford. Honestly, and no offense to anyone, I would rather see a denial over being deferred. I think the idea of waiting 3 more months is a killer.
Hi everyone! I get mired in work for a few days, come back, and yeah - with all of the EA/ED decisions, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at the many pages of posts I have to read through! Congratulations to all on accept decisions, and condolences to the schools who felt it necessary to reject kids who sound, by all accounts here, pretty fabulous. The schools’ loss, truly - the kids will all come out just fine, i hope.
Reading of Stanford rejects - S didn’t bother applying there, despite getting a ton of mail from them and even some pressure from various local people. His gf did last year, ED, and was rejected. It hit her fairly hard, as it was her dream school at the time. But she’s a resilient young woman, she picked herself up and churned through a stack of other applications. She had several accepts, two excellent final choices, and she’s doing beautifully and loving where she’s landed.
S wouldn’t have applied there in any case, because it’s just not for him. No UCs, no CSUs, no Stanford. He’s a SLAC kid, through and through. One EA likely letter, waiting on a couple of others between Monday and the 23rd. (The first EA notifies formally on the 20th.) Two apps still to submit, but ~25 pages of papers and three finals, so they’ll be later next week.
I really like the dinner tradition, though. I’ll be sure to have that lined up when he hears from the schools next week.
@Mysonsdad - UND? We have a LOT of family friends there on faculty and staff! Congrats! (It’s another one S didn’t apply to - possibly because we have a LOT of family friends there… )
These days are so hard. I wish the letters didn’t come right at finals time, too. The kids have enough stress as it is. Ah well…
Gaahh. Someone on CC just called up the admissions office to find out when one of D16’s EA decisions will be out. Ten more days!! That means we’ll be getting the results from the high reach first.
I got S23’s SSAT results today. Compared to the SSAT, the ACT is a walk in the park. How is a 5th grade boy supposed to know the meaning of frock or aplomb?? S23 is not applying to one of the tippy top schools, but once D16 goes off to college, S23 and I are planning to move someplace warmer, where I already own a vacation condo- IF he gets into this school. If he doesn’t get in, we have to rethink because the public school in the area is not so good. And there are no other private schools. None, nada. Yes, it’s remote.
He had done well on the math and reading sections of his practice test, so I had him prep hard for the verbal part of the test. The results come in and he does well on math and verbal, but not reading. Arrgh. I braved a call to the admissions office and it seems his score is fine. But, I won’t rest until I get a decision for him too.
