And… S just received official notification of his acceptance to Santa Clara. That, added to a “likely letter” from Fordham are helping ease the angst from an AP final today in what was once his favorite subject (before this year) including content that hadn’t been covered at all. His grumpiness is a bit lighter.
That is great @kittymom1102 Congratulations! Congratulations to everyone with good news today. Let’s hope for more good news tomorrow!
@kittymom1102 - Wow - congratulations! The scholarship sounds wonderful. Here’s hoping that all of our kids get good news to tide them (and us ) through the holidays and break.
Wow! I step away for a couple of hours and you all go crazy! Congrats to everyone!
@mysonsdad so happy that S is still in the running.
Thank you! @Ballerina016 @2manybooks
Needless to say that the scholarship makes us EXTREMELY HAPPY, but we are also happy for the opportunities that the program offers. The kids have access to research, mentors, faculty, etc. I’m so, so happy for my “little one”
Hi All Congrats to all that acceptances and still being in the running for scholarships - So happy for everyone! D is a bit “salty” receiving the news that she has been Deferred from Northeastern! While reading the threads she realized that many acceptances were STEM majors. D is a Psychology major. Fingers crossed but feeling a bit wounded.
@lvmjac1 Sorry to hear that
I didn’t know your D was applying to NE. For what I saw, A LOT of kids were deferred. Hang in there. Things will go her way during RD
Congratulations on the acceptances!!! <:-P @bouders @happymochi @kittymom1102 @2manybooks Sorry about the deferral @lvmjac1
CHEEHOO! to @happymochi @kittymom1102 @Mysonsdad @2manybooks @riverboat @boulders and @arisamp
(Cheehoo is Hawaiian Pidgin for you’re excited and celebrating. :-c )
@lvmjac1 you have been such a positive light on this thread & I am so sorry about your D’s deferral. Here’s hoping some new acceptances, hugs, trash TV, ice cream, and/or whatever else might help with the saltiness comes her way soon.
Deferred from Northeastern, accepted Santa Clara! We are batting 1000 in the Jesuit department lol. I sent him a copy of the deferment letter (his request, he wanted me to find out and tell him) and he said ehhh, it’s ok. Thankfully, he had already gotten the SCU acceptance. Congrats to all with good news!!
Another Northeastern acceptance here. Son was admitted to the University Honors Program and COE with Dean’s Scholarship.
Congratulations to all the acceptances and scholarships. Lots of activity and good news on this site tonight. Those of you that have been deferred hang in there.
@CAMidwestMom congrats on Santa Clara and raising a resilient kid!
@collegemom2boys congrats on Northeastern w/ honors and merit!
Still no news (for me at least) on Northeastern. D is in the middle of a final at the moment, so I guess I just have to celebrate with you guys while I wait.
Congrats to your sons! @CAMidwestMom @collegemom2boys
@CAMidwestMom Congrats to your S on the acceptance to SC. Thrown in an app to Georgetown since your S is doing so well with Jesuit schools.
Congratulations to everyone who got good news! Hope and faith to those who did not get the best news.
Just a few days ago I was disappointed on Caltech’s flat-out rejection of my S’s application. I was not upset because of Caltech. I was actually concern (afraid) of what that rejection could mean in terms of other decisions since Caltech was S’s first out-of-state decision.
Now, we have hope again! Now, we know that although there will be rejections, there will also be acceptances, some even resounding!
Stay Positive Put your faith in GOD!
Another Northeastern acceptance here - Honors Program as well.
Unfortunately, merit aid offer (Dean’s scholarship of $14K/year) is about $5K/year below the “average dollar amount of institutional non-need-based scholarship and grant aid” for freshmen according to the 2014 Common Data Set.
We don’t understand the disconnect, if Honors is the top 10% of accepted students. Who’s getting the big merit awards, other than the Scholars? Are there that many NMF’s?
She was very happy to be accepted, but doesn’t understand why they don’t think she’s “worth” more merit.
On the plus side, she is 8-for-8 in acceptances so far, thus we count our blessings.
Wow. so much news today!
Congrats on all the acceptances!
For all those deferred - I’m so sorry, that must be tough on your DC. I hope everything turns out for the best for them.
It has been a little too exciting in our house this week… My husband has been having some health problems in the past month… culminated in his going to emergency room two nights ago and he had abdominal surgery last night. Basically, complications of a surgery he had over a decade ago because of diverticulosis…
D and I hung out in the waiting room. She tried to do hw but it was pretty loud and chaotic due to a huge family with small children there, running around… She ended up missing Jazz Band for the night, and STILL was unable to complete hw until we got home… Neither of us could sleep after we got home, after midnight, and we stayed up till 2:30. Whew. I called her school today and said she’d be late and just told them what was going on, and that I just wanted her to sleep in. She and I had discussed it last night and she said she could miss her first block without getting behind… So she went to school at 9 today, instead of 7:30.
And my husband’s surgery went smoothly, as anticipated and he is now on the mend. He’ll be in the hospital this week, recovering. I am operating on VERY LITTLE SLEEP, :), and I am going to bed early tonight if I can!
D is being a trooper - she always is. She is doing hw now, and also says she is hitting the hay early. For once, :).
Speedy recovery and a restful night for you and your daughter @BeeDAre
Thank you!
Oh my gosh @BeeDAre and here I’m complaining. Prayers for your husband and family. Health and well-being come first, and it’s so easy for us to take them for granted.
