@carlson2, yes, most tell us in March.
@BeeDAre, glad to hear the good news
Thanks mysonsdad.
Iâm sorry, @Undercovermom1 and @petrichor11.
Congrats, @dcplanner, on the acceptance and merit aid!
D told me today she believes she is DONE.
She said she has spent the past couple of months looking up other schools her peers and friends have mentioned or are applying to; and re-looking at ones I originally suggested. She told me she honestly did not find any she thought she would like better than the three she has been admitted to⊠And she doesnât want to have to choose between more than necessary!
She plans to spend winter break collaborating on a short film with some classmates from Cinema class, catching up on AP Lit reading, making an outline for her essay due a month after break, and studying her notes for AP Gov, which she says is her hardest class.
But she says she is doing NOTHING school-related tomorrow, Christmas Eve and Christmas, and New Yearâs eve, :).
Good! Wish she didnât have so much to do over her break! Our schoolâs finals are in January⊠next year they are changing it to before the holiday break. At least, next year, she will finally have a Christmas free of school work.
@BeeDAre So glad to hear hubby is home, on the mend and that everyone is happy! That is the best news! Sending virtual flowers and well wishes to hubby and peace and relaxation to you and the family!
Last few days, I was so busy and had no time to read all the posts. It was actually good for me because no time to think about when the result comes out. Anyway, it is impossible to follow everything in this thread.
Congrats for acceptance! Condolences for deferral and rejects. Hope everybody feel better.
DD got accepted to U of Michigan today and I am very happy. Whatever happens in RD, she has a place to go.
Congrats @NYDad513 That must be very reassuring to you both. Would she be happy there?
Thanks @readingclaygirl . Yes. Sheâs happy. She was a little bit anxious about all the college acceptance and this one gave her confidence some extend. So this is a very good news for us.
@BeeDAre Best Christmas present EVER having your husband home! So sorry your husband and the rest of your family had to go through a health scareâŠbut am appreciative that you reminded us what is TRULY important in life! Many wishes for you and your family to have a wonderful holiday with many things to be thankful for!
S16 came home from school today (last school day before holiday break) TOTALLY burnt outâŠhe was on the computer and wanted to just veg tonightâŠbut unfortunately we needed him to shovel snow (8 inches of snow, very long driveway, much to shovel). He wasnât thrilled, but also understands those daily life issues have to be dealt with! I am trying to be cognizant of the fact he needs to just hang out with all of us, and also do mindless stuff on the computer, and not constantly review what is next on his âagendaâ with looming deadlines. He requested (and I agreed to wholeheartedly) that he have this ONE evening to relax and only do things not related to HS work and college applications. Tomorrow morning he needs to figure out his schedule, app deadlines, plan, etcâŠtonight, have fun! Also, sister D14 is due home from college 3000 miles away in New York (we live in the Pacific Northwest) and we have just learned that she may be delayed due to airline holiday schedule craziness issues. S16 and D14 are really close, so all of us are anxiously waiting for arrival!
Right now S16 is âveggingâ (as he puts it) and playing a newly acquired musical instrument that he is learning how to play but has had almost NO time to learn (and totally self taught)âŠand having so much fun and enjoying the laid back, relaxed atmosphere at our house.
Can someone come over and film this moment so we can play it back in the next few months when life and college decisions are dominating our souls? I actually want to record him and somehow post for all of you to listen to (it is the musical sawâŠquite unique and interesting)âŠbut I am one of those âolder parentsâ that are not so tech savvyâŠso have no idea how to do that! He played amazing grace, silent night, and somewhere over the rainbow by ear (not perfect mind you, but still impressive since he is just âmessing aroundâ with it).
Loving the relaxed, informal atmosphere for one night! It reminds us that we have much to be thankful for, including good health and family connections (including @BeeDAre and all the rest of you!).
Super Congrats to you D @NYDad513 for her acceptance to U of Michigan! It is my goal this weekend to convince, cajole and gently push my D to complete her last application. Then I can focus on finishing up the holiday prerequisites!
@lvmjac1 Thanks a lot. It looks reassurance is the most important part during ED/EA result comes out. Even though kids know that if they apply several school, they will be accepted some schools with healthy list, it is hard to get away from the EA/ED result. I am happy that DD is more confident now. She still needs to fill 7 RD apps.
Congrats @NYDad513 and others who have gotten good news! And glad to hear your hubby is recovering well, @BeeDAre.
The deferrals really sting. My S got another acceptance today (a nearby safety) while his good friend, academic superstar and really nice guy, got deferred from Chicago, and doesnât yet have any acceptances. I was sure he would be accepted there, and maybe he will be eventually. But it is rather demoralizing. I should have encouraged him to apply to at least one easy early admit. He has a safety but that decision wonât come into end of January.
Congrats @nydad13
@beedare wonderful news that your dh is home and that D is done. What a relief that must be.
Turns out D received another acceptance today. She said it doesnât exactly cancel out the deferral but it makes it a little better. @pao2008 weâre still waiting to hear from Pitt. Your news is discouraging as Iâve had high hopes for merit. We shall see.
We had dinner out (D 's choice) and now we have tickets for a late showing of Star Wars. Both kids are officially on winter break and Iâm so thankful for have them home and happy to say goodbye to 5am rushed mornings (for a few weeks, anyway).
Waxing nostalgically with Hubby and D16 tonight about D16âs favorite cartoon when she was littleâŠ, Teletubbies & Kipper as a toddler (we lived in the Netherlands and BBC was a savior at times). Dexterâs Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Power Puff Girls and Kim Possible. Do you remember your kidâs favorite cartoons?
@labegg a favorite here was Little Einsteins. My S also went through a Wiggles phase that lasted 18 months. When I say phase, I mean an autistic phase, where it was an obsession. (If you have a kid on the spectrum you know what I am taking about.)
Thank you, everyone for the kind words and wishes re: my hubs.
@NYDad513 , congrats to your D! UMich is a great safety to have!
Yes, @Undercovermom1 , I had a feeling lately, there might not be any more apps⊠When she knows what she wants, once she finds it, she likes to keep it simpleâŠ
Bear in the Big Blue House, Dora the Explorer, Bob the Builder, Cyberchase.
Also Oswald - the creator of that show was a high school classmate of mine. Main character was a blue octopus voiced by Fred Savage. Whoa.
D loved Barney. Baby Bop was her favorite character on that show. We sang the clean-up song every night for a while, to motivate her to pick up her things before bedtime. And it always worked! Every time! Gee, I wish it were that simple nowâŠ
Courage the Cowardly Dog was one of her faves when she was a little older. As much as I love most things gothic, I always thought that show a tad bit dark for young kids⊠or maybe it wasnât just for young kids? D just loved it, though.
DD loved Dora the Explore, Cyberchase and Between the Lions. Last few years, Revolutionary Girl, Utena became her favorite animation, which I love too.
Thanks for all the congrats!
@BeeDAre Yes. That is true. UMich is a great safety option.
I actually worked for our local PBS station when D was a toddler until grade school. She loved all the PBS Kids shows; Cyberchase was her favorite. She also loved all the swag I had, including the Tinky-Winky purse from Teletubbies. Fancy! She was even my âco-hostâ for a pledge drive one year.
Catching up! @palm715 and @Skates76 , I also have a Class of 21 kid! I am so happy to hear that you will be there tooâŠwith really interesting stories.
@CAMidwestMom, Iâm glad you joined! Congrats on your great scholarship news. I also love this supportive group.
@Themommymommy, I would like the tutorial on how to loft beds. Please! We also sent S13 to college with a toolkit, as my dad sent me with one 30 years ago.
@Waiting2exhale, S13 calls us every Sunday evening in the late evening. Itâs two hours later for him, so it works perfectly!
Congrats to @dcplanner, @NYDad513, and @crowlady ; a few scoops of double chocolate oreo to @petrichor11 and @Undercovermom1.
So very glad to hear about your H, @BeeDAre. Happy Holidays, indeed.
D13 tagged along television-wise with S13 and loved Krattsâ Creatures and Magic School Bus. Beep! Beep!
