Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Thank you @mstomper Its a pretty prestigious school too. Good job prospects for sure. @Waiting2exhale thankfully it got resolved but still it should not have happened

@petrichor11 and @mstomper No worries about mustard based BBQ coming from this house, vinegar all the way. DH is quite the pit master. 2 years ago for my goddaughter’s graduation we had a pig roast. He can make the BBQ. I’m a Maryland girl so I’ll bring the crabs.

@carolinamom2boys Heaven is a hot August day in the shade with a cool Chesapeake breeze, a bushel of blue crabs with old bay seasoning dumped on a newspaper covered picnic table, melted butter, and plenty of beer!

@4kids2graduate Some of my fondest memories are crabbing with my family on the Eastern Shore of Md.

I got married on a bluff overlooking the Severn River
that is a pretty part of the country! My friend in Salisbury always buys me Fisher’s popcorn when I visit her.

@carolinamom2boys, my wife grew up in Maryland, but doesn’t like crab. I don’t care for it ether, even though it’s my adopted home. S18, who is the only one of us born in MD, is also the only one who will eat crab. I get my love of NC BBQ from my parents, who are both from NC.

@mstomper, wow, that is awesome!!!

I’ll bring forks and condiments :)>-

@Mysonsdad always the practical one!

@mstomper @carolinamom2boys @4kids2graduate CrowMan and I got married on Kent Island, by the Chesapeake. Had crab cakes for our dinner!

I make my mom’s orange potato salad. Looks strange but tastes good! That’s what I’ll bring to the BBQ.

Woo Hoo !!! Clemson wins the Orange Bowl!!!

Now I cook my Maryland recipes in SC.

I can make homemade guacamole ! I’ll bring some tortilla chips to go with it also.

@mstomper how awesome for your son! Are you certain he will go to there? Are you done?

@4kids2graduate I have two ideas for smaller engineering schools if he wants options to Tulsa. Feel free to PM me.

@Cheeringsection, I think we’re done. It’s his first choice, and he can graduate debt free. He wanted an urban college, and he’s got it.

Ok-doke. Just had our first family meltdown preparing for tomorrow’s intended FAFSA submission. D16 recalled late this afternoon that her godfather had established a custodial account for her. We parents had totally forgotten this. And we have no idea what its balance is going to be tomorrow so we can include it in FAFSA.

I had asked and learned two years ago that it is considered the child’s asset held in custody by her godfather. (We already know she’ll attend a college that gives her a full-tuition grant that precludes any other free aid, and the family/student must cover every cost other than tuition. She hasn’t picked which college yet, however. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense - the full-tuition grant is an employee benefit. So while we have to file FAFSA, as the grant requires, her and our 2015 assets aren’t going to play much of a role in determining aid. We won’t get Pell, unsubsidized loans or W-S anyway because the parents’ assets are too high in 2015.)

But, now we’re missing the January 1 account balance and are ridiculously trying to reach her sweet godfather on New Year’s Eve. Sigh. I think we’re going to wind up missing the January 1 FAFSA submission.

At least the kid remembered this account at the last minute. Would not want to be accused of hiding assets. I don’t think our ignorance would be an excuse.

You can summit it after right? @dyiu13 Hope you get it figured out soon! The college my sister is attending had a FAFSA webinar a couple weeks ago so my parents got all organized then. I guess my dad will be busy tomorrow!

Why are you worried about getting the FAFSA in on Jan1? I’ll be filing it after the kids are back at school and I have some peace and quiet. We have until March to file but I know some schools are first filed first served. We are full pay but I want the option of the federal loan.

FAFSA itself doesn’t have a Jan. 1 deadline, that’s just the first day you can file for next year. You probably don’t even likely have your employer’s W-2 yet-they don’t even send them out until Jan. 1! So don’t panic. We do have a couple of colleges who need our FAFSA by Feb. 1 so we’ll get started soon, but we can’t have all the correct info until our employers get their piece to us.

@3scoutsmom, my wife does all the cooking (I clean) so I figured I would do what most men do when it comes to a potluck.

@carolinamom2boys, I thought the game was tomorrow. I was at the gym and saw it was 30 something to 17 and my first three thoughts were 1. I missed the game, 2. @carolinamom2boys is going to be happy and 3. I need to look for @3scoutsmom mom’s daughter even though I have no idea what she looks like.

Can you send in the FAFSA and then update it? I have my last check and wife’s last check for the year and can go off of that.

You can estimate FAFSA then update when you file your taxes.

@4kids2graduate have you visited Tulsa? DS and I went to one of their visit days last year. Feel free to PM me if you want that perspective–we don’t know anyone who actually goes there.
